Kenu’s Airframe is my favorite in-car phone mount, but for those of you with phablets or bulky cases, it’s a bit small. The company is seemingly well aware of that, and is making strides to address a broader market with the introduction of the Airframe+. Weighing under an ounce and supporting phones with screen sizes as large as 6-inches diagonally, the sized-up holster addresses one of the few gripes I had with the original.

I’ve been using the Airframe+ for the past couple of weeks, and I can safely say that it’s a marked improvement over the already-impressive Airframe.

Sony isn’t exactly enjoying smooth sailing in the global smartphone market right now, but it did start an awesome trend. Following the Japanese electronics giant’s lead, a number of smartphone vendors are now focused on making their flagship phones water-resistant. Samsung’s Galaxy S5, the company’s latest hero phone, is a perfect example, and the handset’s water-resistant treatment will end up saving consumers tons of money and plenty of aggravation by helping the phone survive spills and quick dunks.

But what about those of us with handsets like the iPhone or various Android models that don’t feature any waterproofing? As it turns out, there may be a cheap product that can help.

Apple has told suppliers to make between 70 million and 80 million combined 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and 5.5-inch iPhone 6 units by December 30, The Wall Street Journal has learned from sources familiar with the matter, in anticipation of what will be its biggest iPhone launch ever. Foxconn and Pegatron will start production of the smaller iPhone next month – something recent rumors also claimed – and Foxconn will be the exclusive maker of the 5.5-inch model, which will head to mass-production in September. Both companies are on a “hiring binge,” the Journal says, with Foxconn “hiring workers by the hundreds a day to staff production lines” at their factories in China.

Apple pushed out its fourth beta version of iOS 8 on Monday, and the update came right on time. iOS 8 beta 4 is a huge improvement over earlier betas in a number of ways, offering several new features such as a redesigned Control Center, as well as plenty of bug fixes that make it easier for iOS developers to test their apps ahead of iOS 8’s public release this fall. Of course, the fixes are also greatly appreciated by non-developers who pay $99 for the opportunity to get their hands on Apple’s unreleased iOS software before any of their friends.

As it turns out, iPhone and iPad owners don’t even need to pay for a developer account to install iOS 8 beta 4.

Samsung has a new Galaxy S5 ad out that makes fun of the iPhone. But instead of mocking the existing iPhone 5s, which outsold the Galaxy S5 in the latter’s first full month of sales despite being eight months old at the time, the company chose to have its fun at the expense of a product that doesn’t yet exist: The upcoming iPhone 6.
