Apple’s WWDC 2014 got off to a strong start on Monday when the company unveiled iOS 8, its newest platform for iPhones and iPads that has brought a host of changes including the highly anticipated Healthbook feature that will integrated fitness features for its expected iWatch. Other key features included in iOS 8 are an interactive notification center that lets you more easily access your messages and respond directly from notifications. This doesn’t just apply to emails either: You can also reply to invitations and even “like” Facebook statuses directly from the notifications center.

The wait is finally over, Apple fans — the 25th annual Worldwide Developer Conference is underway. As has been the case in years past, Apple CEO Tim Cook began today’s huge event by taking the stage and delivering a State of the Apple Union address, of sorts. Apple’s chief executive began the WWDC 2014 keynote strong by unveiling OS X 10.10 Yosemite.

One of the biggest announcements primed for Apple’s WWDC 2014 keynote today is the latest update for OS X. Thanks to Mashable’s Lance Ulanoff, we have been given an enticing preview of the real OS X 10.10 ahead of the keynote as he managed to snap a photo of the iMacs Apple will be using to demonstrate the new software. As expected, Apple has seemingly begun to merge the design of iOS with OS X for its latest desktop software, complete with a new dock that should look very familiar to any iPhone owners. We expect to hear plenty more after 1pm once the keynote is underway.

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 8 and OS X 10.10 during the opening keynote of this year’s WWDC edition, with The New York Times having already confirmed certain details about the company’s upcoming announcements that will cover, among other things, an iOS 8 health tracking app and Apple’s first smart home related efforts. Beyond those big announcements, The Wall Street Journal now says that the iPhone maker will also reveal more iBeacon-related plans during the conference.

We learned about the cast of Star Wars: Episode VII in late April and now we’re getting our first look right from the set. TMZ has obtained some leaked pictures that give us a closeup look at the set of the new film, including pictures of both a Tatooine marketplace and a gigantic hippopotamus-like creature that TMZ says takes five different men to operate. The new Star Wars movie is now being filmed in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, so it’s not surprising that the pictures shown on TMZ’s page all show a desert landscape.
