Even though LG’s G3 media event is less than a week away, the company can’t wait to share more details about the device with the public and generate even more buzz for its 2014 flagship handset. After confirming the phone’s name, display specs and launching a special QuickWindow case, the company has released new teaser ads for its home country, which confirm other G3 rumors including all the recent G3 image leaks. In three very short videos, LG is teasing three G3 features including the display, design and camera of the handset.

One of the many problems with Samsung’s first Galaxy Gear, apparently, was that it wasn’t a standalone device and really required you to tether it to a Samsung smartphone for it to be at all useful. However, The Wall Street Journal now reports that Samsung will be releasing a standalone smartwatch this summer that will be perfectly capable of functioning on its own without a smartphone.

Some widely-covered research from Counterpoint analyst Neil Shah seemingly showed us that despite Android’s global dominance, Apple is still the top-selling smartphone vendor in the United States by a sizable margin, thanks to its popular iPhone lineup. An equally or possibly even more interesting point was lost in much of the reporting that covered the research, however: T-Mobile soared past Sprint in the first quarter this year to become the nation’s No. 3 carrier in terms of smartphone sales.

With 27 days to go, the project has already surpassed its $10,000 goal, reaching almost $210,000 in pledges, which means that Legion Meter has already been funded.

Think the proposed Comcast–Time Warner Cable merger is a bad idea? Then just wait until you hear what UBS analyst John Hodulik has in mind. In a new research note flagged by Barron’s, Hodulik explains why he thinks AT&T’s bid to buy DirecTV will not only help Comcast get its TWC merger passed but will also push Comcast to get into the wireless space to go head-to-head with AT&T and Verizon. And you know what this means: Hodulik thinks Comcast will then try to buy T-Mobile.

We have seen some scary Android malware in the past, but a new report from former Googler and current software engineer turned accidental security researcher Szymon Sidor reveals that some simple code can force an Android phone to secretly capture photographs. The resulting images can then be uploaded to a remote server without the device’s owner ever knowing.

The latest installment in the ongoing series of iPhone 6 leaks is perhaps one of the most interesting yet.
