Despite the US ban, Huawei is still China’s most attractive employer

The Trump administration’s inclusion of Huawei on a blacklist that bans US companies from doing business with the Chinese consumer electronics giant has generated at least one surprising side effect.

Despite the fact that international vendor firms are starting to cut off the company, which stands to lose critical partners like Google and Facebook as a result of the ban, Chinese engineering students have for the second year in a row voted Huawei as the most attractive employer in the country — the place where many of them are still highly interested in finding a job.

We’re now just one month away from the 50th anniversary of NASA’s Apollo 11 mission to the Moon, and owners of some seriously sought-after space relics are putting their memorabilia on the auction block in the hopes of capitalizing on the hype.

RR Auction is hosting the bidding for a number of rare artifacts that traveled to the Moon decades ago and as you might expect, prices are out of this world. Among the items being offered is a roll of 70 mm film that was taken to the Moon during the Apollo 11 mission, as well as an American Flag that traveled around the Moon during the Apollo 15 campaign.

This haptic feedback concept for the Netflix app is kind of brilliant

At Netflix’s most recent internal hackathon — the yearly session where employees of the streaming giant group together into teams and kick around creative ideas outside of their normal jobs — one team had an idea for a way to make watching content on the mobile app more satisfyingly immersive.

They call it the Rumble Pack, and it’s a haptic feedback concept that would make your phone shake and rumble in sync with the action you’re seeing on the screen while watching Netflix.

Patients of rude surgeons have more problems after surgery, study says

%name Patients of rude surgeons have more problems after surgery, study says by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Having surgery — even minor surgery — can be an incredibly stressful experience for any patient. Placing trust in a surgeon is often frightening, even if that surgeon is impeccably trained and highly skilled, but a new study suggests that the level of professionalism a surgeon exhibits when interacting with colleagues can be an indicator of how well his or her patients do after enduring a surgical procedure.

The research, which was published in the journal JAMA Surgery, found that surgeons who have hostile working relationships with their peers tend to have more post-surgery issues with those they’ve operated on. The data suggests that an unprofessional approach to their jobs has a direct impact on the recovery of their patients.

Huawei’s Mate X 2 concept fixes everything that the Galaxy Fold got wrong

%name Huawei’s Mate X 2 concept fixes everything that the Galaxy Fold got wrong by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Galaxy Fold foldable smartphone isn’t just delayed, it’s also terribly ugly, but that’s the compromise early adopters will have to accept. The phone itself is a compromise because we’re in the early stages of foldables. That said, Huawei came up with a gorgeous foldable that looks a lot better than Samsung’s first handset.

And that’s probably because Huawei placed the foldable screen on the exterior, while the Fold’s main screen is found on the inside of the handset. That doesn’t mean Huawei isn’t considering Fold-like devices, though, and its patent for such a device already looks like a major improvement over Samsung’s foldable Galaxy.

A report claimed earlier this week that the Galaxy Note 10 series will be unveiled on August 7th in New York. The rumor makes sense, as countless others have also said Samsung will announce the handset in early August, but we’re a long way from receiving official confirmation. However, accessory makers are ready to sell you protective cases for the upcoming handset, which means they think they know what the phone will look like.

Sketchy businesses are hijacking legitimate Google Maps listings to fool you

A sketchy practice is becoming more commonplace on Google Maps involving companies hijacking legitimate business listings in order to make you think that you’re contacting the actual business. The Wall Street Journal brought this practice to light in a new report, and the paper estimates there are about 11 million “falsely listed businesses” on any given day on Google Maps.

Company behind Philips Hue reveals LiFi lighting with incredible data speeds

%name Company behind Philips Hue reveals LiFi lighting with incredible data speeds by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

WiFi routers are a staple of homes and offices all over the world, but there’s more than one way to send wireless data to a device like a laptop or a smartphone. LiFi, a technology that relies on light waves rather than radio bands to transmit data, has had a hard time gaining traction in a saturated market, but the company behind Philips Hue lights thinks it can change that.

The company, known as Signify, was formerly Philips Lighting, and with brand recognition on its side, it’s hoping that its new Truelifi systems will be embraced by business and healthcare organizations. At data speeds topping 250 Mbps, it might have a shot.

Apple warns that Trump’s proposed tariff would impact its contribution to the U.S. economy

%name Apple warns that Trump’s proposed tariff would impact its contribution to the U.S. economy by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Over the past few weeks, Apple’s stock price has been particularly volatile in light of a proposed tariff from the Trump administration that would tax devices imported from China by as much as 25%. And seeing as how the vast majority of Apple devices and accessories are manufactured in China, there’s a legitimate concern among investors that the proposed tariffs would either raise the price of Apple products for consumers or force Apple to eat the additional cost.

Consequently, Apple earlier this week sent a letter to US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer which articulates how the proposed tariff would have an adverse impact on Apple’s contribution to the United States economy.
