Norway thinks it captured a Beluga whale that was spying for Russia

Russia may be resorting to more unconventional methods of espionage these days, dragooning Mother Nature into helping the country extend its spying capabilities. That’s what Norway officials think, at any rate, after the capture of a Beluga whale that was wearing a strange Russian harness — presumably that a GoPro could fit into — that didn’t seem to be related to scientific work.

As educators have known for a long, long time, there’s no magic solution to improving academic performance across an entire student body. Experienced teachers and an engaging curriculum go a long way, but external factors often play just as big of a role. Now, a new study has drawn a curious link between student smarts and something that many kids are forced to deal with each and every morning: school bus fumes.

The study, which was published in Economics of Education Review, compared the standardized test scores of students from a number of school districts across Georgia. The surprising data showed that school districts that had invested in retrofitting school buses with emissions-reducing systems had higher test scores than those which did not.

From the time Avengers: Endgame presales started in the US through Sunday night at the end of its epic opening weekend, Fandango recorded a record-smashing cumulative ticket sale haul of more than $127 million.

The movie ticketing company announced that milestone (the company’s best-ever) on Monday morning, on the heels of Endgame’s extraordinary successful weekend at the box office fueled by intense audience demand that shows no sign of slowing down. Indeed, Fandango’s announcement this morning also mentioned the results of a new survey of Fandango moviegoers, which shows that 81% of respondents say they’d consider going back to the theater to see Endgame again, in spite of the roughly three-hour runtime.

Pluto’s atmosphere might be dying right before our eyes

%name Pluto’s atmosphere might be dying right before our eyes by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Pluto, the once-planet and now-dwarf-planet, is an incredibly hostile world as far as life is concerned. Pluto, which sits near the edges of the solar system, far from the Sun, is incredibly frigid. Its thin atmosphere, which consists mostly of nitrogen, has persisted despite the rock-bottom temperatures, but new research suggests that trend may changing, and Pluto’s atmosphere could completely collapse within years.

A massive research effort to study climate patterns on Pluto has yielded the shocking prediction in a new paper published in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics. The team suggests that Pluto’s entire atmosphere could vanish by 2030.

Xbox free Games with Gold for May 2019

%name Xbox free Games with Gold for May 2019 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s crazy to think that we’re just over a month away from E3 2019, but the video game release schedule has slowed down rather significantly in recent weeks. Sony already started hyping up its next-generation console, and Microsoft will likely have something to say about its own this summer, so, for now, the free Games with Gold are some of the only games we have to look forward to on a consistent basis.

The selection for May isn’t exactly a home run, with a $10 party game as the headliner. That said, as a golf fan, I will absolutely be picking up The Golf Club 2 as soon as it goes free on the 16th.

Advertising executives believe Netflix will have to run ads eventually

%name Advertising executives believe Netflix will have to run ads eventually by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

No surprise, Netflix was a big topic of discussion today as IAB’s Digital Content NewFronts event kicked off in New York City — and a panel of advertising industry executives repeated an oft-heard prediction again today that will probably make most Netflix subscribers groan.

Despite the promise from its leadership that the service will remain ad-free, at least when it comes to traditional ads and commercials, Netflix is eventually going to have to succumb to the inevitable and run ads. That’s according to industry execs like Tara Walpert Levy, who leads agency and brand solutions for YouTube and Google.

Samsung might be working on a new phone with a wrap-around display

%name Samsung might be working on a new phone with a wrap around display by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold is far from being the success the company may have envisioned. Early review units unearthed several issues with the foldable phone’s screen, and Samsung had no choice but to delay the worldwide Galaxy Fold launch. But that doesn’t mean Samsung won’t make more foldable handsets in the future, or other types of smartphones. A recent discovery offers us more details about a brand new design Samsung may be developing: A phone with a wraparound display that doesn’t fold.

Doctors used a drone to deliver a vital kidney transplant in historic flight

Drones might be a favorite toy among adults with significant disposable income, but they’ve also proven to be incredibly useful as tools, and sometimes life-saving ones at that. The latest example of this growing trend comes to us from the University of Maryland Medical Center, where a medical drone delivered a kidney that was subsequently successfully transplanted into a patient.

The delivery, which was documented in a brief YouTube video published by UMMC, is just a small first step in a larger effort to enhance the delivery systems used for vital items like organs and other medical materials.

Spotify now has 100M paying subscribers, but it’s still losing money

%name Spotify now has 100M paying subscribers, but it’s still losing money by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Spotify now has 100 million subscribers paying for the streaming music service’s Premium subscription tier, in addition to now enjoying a presence in 79 markets since the company went public a year ago this month.

However, the milestone which Spotify announced today also illustrates a fundamental truth about the streaming music business. It’s apparently really hard to make money, given that Spotify’s announcement of 100 million paying subscribers comes at a time the company also lost $158 million during the most recent quarter.
