One of the smart things about Uber (and Lyft, for that matter) is that the ratings system goes both ways. Not only can passengers rate drivers, but drivers can also rate passengers. Not only does this incentivize drivers to be friendly and accommodating, but it also ensures that Uber can prevent users who are consistently unruly or threatening from using the service.
While every Uber passenger can see the rating of whatever driver happens to be picking them up, Uber has historically made it exceedingly difficult for users to find out how they themselves rank.
