  • We recently told you about a few different smartphone sanitizers on Amazon that use UV-C light to kill bacteria and viruses like the novel coronavirus on smartphones — they sold out within hours of our coverage.
  • Now, in a surprising turn of events, two of the most popular models we have covered in the past few weeks are both back in stock on Amazon and ready to ship out this week.
  • As an added bonus, we also found a tiny portable UV sterilizer that can zap bacteria and viruses on jewelry, and it’s only $17.99 right now if you hurry.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

It is believed that there are two main ways people become infected with the novel coronavirus. The first way is by not adhering to strict social distancing guidelines and inhaling “micro-droplets” that float in the air and carry the virus. These microscopic droplets enter the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or even just speaks or breathes, and you can easily catch COVID-19 if those droplets get in your mouth, nose, or eyes.

The second common way the novel coronavirus spreads is through contact. Infected people touch surfaces and leave behind active virus that can then be picked up and transmitted when a healthy person touches the same surface. Of course, you can’t just absorb the novel coronavirus through your skin. An infection can occur when you get the virus on your hands and then touch your face. Alternatively, the same infection can happen when you transfer the virus from your hands to the filthy cesspool that is your smartphone, and then ultimately to your face.

Everyone knows smartphones are filthy, but things like Clorox and Lysol wipes are still almost impossible to come by. How should you clean your phone so you can kill bacteria and viruses like the Novel coronavirus? Smartphone sanitizers that use UV light are the best tool for the job, and several popular models that have been best-sellers among our readers are now back in stock at Amazon.

First up, the top-selling Marnana Portable UV Phone Sterilizer is back and ready to ship. This compact UV cleaner case pops open and your phone goes inside. Press the button on the top to start sanitizing and your phone is blasted with UV-C light for a few minutes. I like to do two passes on each side just to be safe.

UV Phone Sanitizer, Marnana Portable UV Phone Sterilizer Cleaner Case with Wireless Charger & U…: $43.99

Next up, we have the HoMedics UV-Clean Portable Sanitizer Bag with much better coverage and much more internal space so you can fit all kinds of other objects apart from just your smartphone. It’s available right now in two colors and a third will be in stock next week — you can save $20 if you opt for that third version and wait a week.

HoMedics UV-Clean Portable Sanitizer | Kills Up to 99.9% of Bacteria & Viruses at The DNA Level…: $79.95

As an added bonus, we also just came across a tiny little sanitizer called the Munchkin Portable UV Sterilizer. It won’t fit a smartphone since it’s so compact, but you can easily carry it with you anywhere and it’s great for sanitizing jewelry and other small objects. Best of all, you’ll only pay $19.97 for this awesome mini sanitizer.

Microsoft just quietly revealed the Xbox Series X logo

%name Microsoft just quietly revealed the Xbox Series X logo by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Microsoft just registered a new Xbox Series X logo that could be used on the next-gen console, Series X games, and other associated products in the near future.
  • The company is yet to formally show the new logo, or reveal the console’s retail packaging and other branding initiatives.
  • Sony’s PS5 logo was unveiled back in early January at CES 2020.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Microsoft and Sony both decided to launch their next-gen consoles this year, and 2020 should have been a significant year for gaming. Then the coronavirus pandemic happened, pausing life as we knew it. Strict social distancing measures stopped every activity that involved crowds of people, and that’s why we didn’t have any proper PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X announcements. Microsoft did have a considerable advantage over Sony, after having unveiled the console’s design in mid-December, well before the world started worrying about a pneumonia-like new disease from China. Since then, the company has been one step ahead of Sony, revealing the full specs of the console and showing the Xbox controller before Sony had a chance to match Microsoft’s moves. But not all new Xbox announcements are supposed to be exciting, and the latest revelation is proof of that.

Samsung might’ve just leaked its most stunning smartphone design yet

%name Samsung might’ve just leaked its most stunning smartphone design yet by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A teaser image suggests the Galaxy Note 20 might get a significant display upgrade this year.
  • An image that Samsung shared suggests the new handset might feature an under-screen camera, the holy grail of smartphone screen design right now.
  • However, there’s no proof to back up the teaser, which is probably just a placeholder image.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Samsung is widely expected to unveil its next flagship series in early August, regardless of what happens with the novel coronavirus health crisis. That’s the Galaxy Note 20, which will be joined by a new foldable, the Galaxy Fold 2. The Galaxy Note 20 is expected to look a lot like the Galaxy S20 when it comes to the overall design. The handset will feature an all-screen display and multi-lens camera on the back, but it’ll also feature a built-in S-Pen stylus like every Galaxy Note generation to date. A brand new leak suggests the phone might get the most significant display upgrade in a few years, but the technology might not be quite there yet.

Coronavirus forces anti-vaxxers to rethink their dangerous beliefs

%name Coronavirus forces anti vaxxers to rethink their dangerous beliefs by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Conspiracy theories, unproven claims, fake news, and junk science have all proliferated during the coronavirus pandemic, leading many to attack coronavirus vaccine development when in fact that might be the only thing that eventually saves us from the virus.
  • There’s evidence, however, that the nature of the current global COVID-19 crisis is causing many anti-vaxxers to re-evaluate their dangerous beliefs.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The novel coronavirus pandemic may be having a surprising effect on the wildly misguided anti-vaccination movement that’s based on a dangerous cocktail of junk science, outlandish conspiracy theories, and outright lies: Some of the anti-vaxxers, it seems, seem to now be less inclined to oppose vaccines as a result of the deadly COVID-19 virus that spreads with frightening ease and is an order of magnitude more lethal than the flu.

At any rate, that’s the conclusion of a new 18-month study of polling data as well as online chatter related to vaccines conducted by the Vaccine Confidence Project. According to Heidi Larson, the director of the London-based organization, the online posts (including more than 3 million a day between January and March that were analyzed) on balance seem to suggest that most people are “eager for a coronavirus vaccine, and as soon as possible” — which should unquestionably win an award for the understatement of the year.

Netflix thinks an epic foreign drama is about to eclipse ‘Tiger King’ in viewership

%name Netflix thinks an epic foreign drama is about to eclipse ‘Tiger King’ in viewership by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Are you tired of Tiger King yet? That’s the massively successful and buzzy Netflix series which garnered a huge viewership in the weeks following its launch — some 64 million households, to be exact, Netflix announced on Tuesday.
  • But even though the docu-series has proven to be a ubiquitous pop culture phenomenon, the streamer is now predicting that another hot Netflix original (the Spanish-language drama Money Heist, about a group of criminals who get together to pull off an epic heist, is about to eclipse Tiger King’s viewership in a matter of days.)
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

I was waiting for this to happen. Tiger King and all its inherent insanity wasn’t going to stay the most-watched TV show on Netflix forever, as much as Joe Exotic might have hoped all of us wouldn’t get tired of his unhinged escapades and his near-blood feud with Carole Baskin.

In its new quarterly letter to shareholders distributed on Tuesday, Netflix offered a rundown of how much its business (no surprise) has soared thanks to all of us being stuck at home right now because of the coronavirus, such that Netflix added a whopping 15.77 new customers in the first quarter of this year. Those are among the new customers who helped make Tiger King the hit that it was. Meanwhile, the streaming giant also offered some viewership data for some of its newest hit series — like Tiger King, which Netflix said 64 million households watched in the first four weeks it was available on the service. For most of that time, the series has been one of Netflix’s hottest, most-watched shows. However, by the end of this month, there’s another Netflix original — a Spanish-language drama about a group of criminals who get together to pull off an epic heist — that’s projected to reach an even bigger viewership than Tiger King.

That interstellar comet spotted last year is weirder than expected

%name That interstellar comet spotted last year is weirder than expected by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Interstellar comet 2I/Borisov is packed with carbon monoxide, making it a real weirdo when compared to comets from our solar system.
  • Scientists using high-powered telescopes observed the comet’s emissions and found carbon monoxide as well as hydrogen cyanide.
  • Future observations of new interstellar comets will be the only way to determine how unique 2I/Borisov truly is.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

When an amateur astronomer spotted what appeared to be only the second interstellar object ever observed by mankind, it was an incredibly big deal. The object, later confirmed to be a comet and named 2I/Borisov, definitely originated from outside of our solar system, and researchers have been studying it for months.

Now, after observation campaigns from both the Hubble Space Telescope and Chile’s Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA), scientists have enough data to begin to describe what the comet is made of, and perhaps even offer us some hints as to its origins.

  • The famously elusive street artist Banksy has unveiled his latest creation — an image of painted rats appearing to cause havoc … in the artist’s bathroom.
  • Banksy posted the new artwork to Instagram with a lighthearted reference to the fact that it was created while working from home, something that’s now a fact of life for millions of people around the world as the coronavirus pandemic has dragged on.

“My wife hates it when I work from home.”

That’s how the famously elusive artist Banksy captioned an Instagram post depicting his latest artwork, which has been “liked” more than 2.4 million times and which is hosted in perhaps his oddest choice of venues yet — his bathroom. Oh well, what can you do when most of the world is on lockdown right now as a result of the coronavirus? “We’re all in this together,” is a phrase you’ve probably heard more than once now since the crisis began. Which means — well, among other things, that for office workers and street artists alike, everyone is working from home for the time being.

Xbox Series S might be revealed during May hardware showcase

%name Xbox Series S might be revealed during May hardware showcase by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Microsoft is reportedly preparing to reveal a cheaper next-gen console called the Xbox Series S.
  • The Xbox Series S (codename “Lockhart”) will have 4TB of performance compared to the 12TB of the Xbox Series X, but will retain many of the next-gen console’s most important features.
  • Microsoft is rumored to be preparing a hardware showcase for Surface and Xbox devices in May.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Sony has made headlines with some exciting next-gen announcements over the past few weeks, including the reveal of the DualSense controller that will ship with the PlayStation 5, but Microsoft still has a sizable lead when it comes to what we know about its plans for 2020. While the design of the PS5 is still unknown, we’ve seen the Xbox Series X powered on and running games. But that’s not to say Microsoft is out of secrets to share.

For months, we’ve been hearing that the next generation of Xbox consoles will follow a similar trajectory as that of the current generation, with a premium model (Xbox One X) and a more affordable model (Xbox One S) on the market at the same time. The cheaper model — which has been referred to as the “Xbox Series S” — has yet to be officially unveiled, but that might change next month if recent reports are to be trusted.

Astronomers spotted a massive exoplanet, and then it disappeared

  • Exoplanet Fomalhaut b (also known as Dagon) disappeared before astronomers’ eyes after being detected multiple times.
  • A new theory suggests the would-be planet was actually a cloud of debris left over from a collision between two large icy objects.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

It wasn’t that long ago that astronomers could only dream of discovering worlds outside of our solar system. These days, exoplanet discoveries come at a regular pace, with new planets being spotted by the handful thanks to ever-more-powerful telescopes and detection systems. But what happens when scientists spot a planet and then it completely disappears?

That’s the predicament researchers found themselves in after Dagon, a massive gas giant exoplanet originally spotted in 2004 by the Hubble Space Telescope suddenly vanished. Now, researchers have a new theory as to what they actually saw, and it’s even more exciting than discovering a new planet.

Brand new gaming phone may spell doom for Google’s Pixel 5

%name Brand new gaming phone may spell doom for Google’s Pixel 5 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A new gaming phone from Chinese smartphone maker Nubia was unveiled, rocking the same chipset that’s rumored to power the upcoming Pixel 5.
  • The Nubia Play 5G’s great set of specs and affordable price might put additional pressure on Android handsets, Pixel 5 included.
  • The new Nubia phone will start at just $340 in China, which is even cheaper than the upcoming Pixel 4a.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

It’s only mid-April, and the Pixel 5 isn’t supposed to launch for another five months, but we’ve already seen various Pixel 5 leaks that aren’t very flattering. The phone that should compete against the iPhone 11 and Galaxy S20 is widely believed to feature mid-range specs. Specifically, the phone is expected to feature a mid-range Snapdragon 765G chip over the Snapdragon 865 that powers the Galaxy S20 and OnePlus 8. This would be a first for the Pixel series, and it’s all Qualcomm’s fault, according to a recent report. The 865 needs a 4G/5G chip and is more expensive than the 765G that comes with a 4G/5G modem built-in. Google is already rumored to be working on its own custom mobile chip for the Pixel series, but the processor won’t be ready until next year.

We’ve already explained why the new iPhone SE might be Google’s worst nightmare. The cheap new iPhone will be more powerful that a 765G-based Pixel 5, which will make the phone a tough sell. But it turns out that’s not the only phone that might make it even harder for Google to sell Pixel phones this year.
