  • Jacksonville reopened beaches and public parks as coronavirus cases hit record numbers.
  • Unrest is at an all-time high, and state officials appear to be caving to pressure from those who believe the viral pandemic isn’t a big deal.
  • Florida now has at least 25,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

In case you hadn’t heard, we’re in the middle of a global health crisis. The novel coronavirus pandemic isn’t the end of the world, but it’s pretty bad, and just about every country is taking extreme measures to curb the spread and flatten the curve of new infections. Apparently, Florida doesn’t know anything about this.

The state has come under much criticism throughout this entire viral outbreak saga. The state refused to issue stay-at-home orders for a long while, and its beaches quickly became a hot spot for the virus to spread, especially among spring breakers who were foolhardy enough to ignore warnings from health experts. The beaches were eventually closed, but now they’re open again. Oh, and Florida is now reporting more coronavirus cases than ever before.

Coincidence?

5 best Bose headphones and speaker deals – including one huge surprise

%name 5 best Bose headphones and speaker deals – including one huge surprise by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

All the chatter right now in the United States revolves around the Trump administration’s efforts to reopen the economy beginning in early May. Needless to say, that is a fantastic way to ensure that a massive second wave of novel coronavirus infections. Remember, the White House isn’t even trying anymore to hide the fact that it’s willing to put fat cats’ desires ahead of the public’s best interests, so responsible Americans will continue to self-isolate and avoid crowds at all costs even if nonessential businesses begin to reopen in the coming weeks. Supporting local businesses is hugely important, but continuing to help slow the spread of COVID-19 is far more important at this point.

With all that in mind, you’ll likely continue to spend a whole lot of time indoors at home in the coming weeks, and we’ve got a handful of deals on Bose gear for you to check out if you’re tired of dealing with subpar headphones and speakers in quarantine.

Amazon is offering a bunch of great deals on popular Bose speakers and wireless headphones, and we dug through them all to pick out the five best bargains. Some of them are familiar deals that have returned somewhat unexpectedly considering Amazon’s current shift in focus away from nonessential products. Other deals are a bit more surprising, however, such as a shocking sale that offers a rare discount on the hot new Bose 700 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones that almost never go on sale.

Bose Noise Cancelling Wireless Bluetooth Headphones 700, with Alexa Voice Control, Black: $349.00

Those are Bose’s latest and greatest ANC headphones and they’re by far the best model that Bose has ever made. That said, they’re still a bit pricey even with a discount that matches the all-time low, so there are two other Bose headphones deals you should definitely consider. The wildly popular Bose QuietComfort 35 II Wireless Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones get a $50 discount to $299, and Bose’s first and only true wireless earbuds, the Bose SoundSport Free, get an even bigger discount to an all-time low of $139.

Bose SoundSport Free, True Wireless Earbuds, (Sweatproof Bluetooth Headphones for Workouts and…: $139.00

If you’re looking for speakers instead, there are two Amazon deals in particular that you’ll likely be interested in. The Bose Solo 5 TV Soundbar Sound System everyone loves so much is down to $179 from $250, and the Bose Home Speaker 500 with killer sound quality and hands-free Alexa voice control gets a big $100 discount to $299.

Coronavirus vaccine researcher says people can get COVID-19 twice

%name Coronavirus vaccine researcher says people can get COVID 19 twice by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The novel coronavirus infection will generate immunity, but it might not last anywhere near as long as vaccine-induced COVID-19 resistance, a researcher said.
  • COVID-19 survivors might get infected again in the coming years, the researcher noted, which tends to be true of all coronaviruses and not just SARS-CoV-2.
  • A vaccine might be able to generate a more robust immune response, the Oxford University researcher said.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

More and more COVID-19 survivors are testing positive again for the novel coronavirus, and some of them are even showing mild symptoms the second time around. Researchers are trying to understand the reasons why that happens, as that’s not the kind of question we can afford to leave unanswered. It’s not only crucial for COVID-19 immunity research, but also for mitigating new outbreaks and devising policies for easing social distancing restrictions. If patients retest positive, does it mean they’re infectious? Was it a testing error? Is it possible they were reinfected?

So far, it’s believed that people who test positive again haven’t been reinfected by someone else. Instead, the virus may have been dormant inside them and a weaker immune response may have resurrected it. But one researcher who is working on a COVID-19 vaccine candidate said people who have recovered from the disease might be reinfected again. However, that likely can’t happen as soon as you think, and it likely doesn’t explain why recovered patients are testing positive again.

The novel coronavirus wasn’t designed in a lab, so stop sharing conspiracy videos

%name The novel coronavirus wasn’t designed in a lab, so stop sharing conspiracy videos by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Some coronavirus conspiracy theories push the idea that China may have developed the COVID-19 virus in a lab, using existing studies about SARS and other coronaviruses as proof that humans can genetically engineer novel viruses.
  • Research does exist that proves coronavirus strains from bats could mutate to jump to humans. Still, a 2015 study explained the need to observe this family of viruses in the aftermath of the SERS and MERS epidemics to prevent other outbreaks.
  • A new study published a few weeks ago confirmed that the genetic sequence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus isn’t similar to anything else, completely eliminating the possibility that the virus might have been created in a lab.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

You should be more than familiar with all the measures you can take to reduce the risk of getting infected with the novel coronavirus. Wash your hands frequently with soap for at least 20 seconds, disinfect surfaces, avoid getting close to other people and self-isolate if possible. And you should of course wear a face mask of some sort when you have to go out to purchase food and essential supplies (here’s how to make your own face masks). Officials may have also warned you to avoid fake news about the coronavirus, but that’s now always easy. The transmission of viral COVID-19 fake news is another pandemic that we all have to face, and that’s what I’ve been doing lately in personal exchanges with friends and family. It’s really easy to dispose of most the coronavirus misinformation that circulates online, and you should do it to prevent your loved ones from believing information they get from shady sources. But what happens when someone sends you information that’s tough to dispute?

A few days ago, I received a video that I’d have normally dismissed immediately. It talked about how Chinese researchers were able to create a chimera virus back in 2015 that sounds a lot like the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the novel COVID-19 illness. And it did not originate from a fringe website pushing conspiracy theories that would have you convinced the coronavirus is man-made. I immediately sent off the reply I already had on hand. As of mid-March, we know for a fact that SARS-CoV-2 wasn’t made in a lab. Scientists from around the world studied the genome of the new virus and concluded there’s no way the virus was man-made. The researchers found the virus jumped from animals to humans, although they were yet to understand where the key mutation happened, or the genetic change that allowed the virus to bind to a receptor in human cells.

But because the source of the clip was a reputable Italian TV station, I dug further, searching for the study that Italian story focused on. It turns out that study exists, but it hardly proves that people created the new coronavirus.

How the heck is this 15W fast wireless charger only $8.99 at Amazon?

%name How the heck is this 15W fast wireless charger only $8.99 at Amazon? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Wireless chargers are probably the most popular smartphone accessories we cover here at BGR Deals, unless you consider headphones like Apple’s deeply discounted AirPods and AirPods Pro to be smartphone accessories. Of course, it’s not exactly difficult to figure out why wireless chargers are so popular right now. There’s nothing quite as liberating as kissing charging cables goodbye and never having to fumble with another cord or connector again. When you want to charge up your phone, just place it on the wireless charging pad or wireless charging stand and you’re done.

The other reason wireless chargers are so popular is that they seem to go on sale all the time. We’ve seen hundreds upon hundreds of great deals on wireless chargers come and go over the past couple of years alone, and you can often find popular models on sale at great prices. For all the deals we’ve seen throughout the years though, we’ve never seen anything quite like the deal Amazon is running right now on the Letscom Ultra-Slim 15W Fast Wireless Charging Pad.

Most fast wireless charging pads and stands have two different fast charging modes in addition to regular old 5W wireless charging. First, they have a 7.5W charging mode for iPhone models like the iPhone 11 series, iPhone XS, iPhone XR, and others. That’s the fastest wireless charging speed Apple’s various iPhone models support. Then, they also have a 10W fast wireless charging mode because many Android phones support that faster charging speed. There are a handful of Android smartphones that support even faster 15W wireless charging though, and this Letscom can handle that as well.

Ready for the best part? This top-rated Letscom 15W fast wireless charging pad is somehow on sale right now for just $8.99! That’s one of the lowest prices we’ve ever seen on any wireless popular charger, let alone a model that supports 15W charging. Definitely hurry and grab one because you don’t want to miss this opportunity.

LETSCOM Wireless Charger, Qi-Certified 15W Max Fast Wireless Charging Pad Ultra Slim, Compatibl…: $8.99

Here’s the key info from Amazon’s product page:

  • Four Charging Modes: High-speed output charging (Using a QC2.0/QC3.0 PD adapter ) 15W compatible with LG G7/V30/V35/V40 ThinQ; 10W compatible with Samsung Note 10+/Note 10/S9/S9+/Note 9/Note 8/S8/S8+/S7/S10/S10+/S10E; 7.5W compatible with iPhone 11/11 pro/11 Pro Max/XS Max/XS/XR/X/8+/8/Airpods and 5W compatible with Google Pixel 3/3XL/4/4XL or other Qi-enabled devices.
  • Type C Cable: Type C cables (included) allows our qi wireless charger to work at a faster rate. (Note: make sure the charger is placed in a cooler area while charging). You can insert the connector in both ways, so it enables your phone and fast wireless charger to share with this one cable.
  • Anti-slip Protection: To charge your phone, simply place your device on the center of the wireless charging pad (the silicone ring) to get the best charging results. The silicone ring and four silicone pads on the underneath of the qi charger are designed to prevent your phone and charging pad from slipping.
  • Intelligent Protection Technology: Wireless phone charger with Exclusive Multifunctional Intelligent Protect Technology provides temperature control, over-voltage and over-current protection, short-circuit prevention, Foreign Object Detection, and more.
  • Third Party Case Friendly & Ultra-thin: This wireless charger is compatible with most phone cases with a thickness of up to 6mm (metal or magnetic attachments will affect charging). Our charging pad is just 0.3inch in thick and includes a temperature control system and ventilation holes ensure cooler but more efficient charging.

Amazon’s crazy AirPods 2 sale is done, but AirPods Pro are still at an all-time low

%name Amazon’s crazy AirPods 2 sale is done, but AirPods Pro are still at an all time low by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The big news last week was new all-time low pricing on AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case, but that deal is over.
  • The good news is that Amazon is yet again offering Apple’s extremely popular AirPods Pro true wireless noise cancelling earbuds at the lowest price ever, which was first seen on Black Friday last year.
  • Other AirPods models are also discounted right now on Amazon, including AirPods 2 with wireless charging for a whopping $80 off if you buy them renewed.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Last week, something surprising happened over at Amazon: AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case got a big price discount. It’s not very surprising to see them go on sale these days. In fact, head over to Amazon right now and you’ll find these great $199 earbuds available for $169. What was crazy about last week’s sale was the fact that they dropped to a new all-time low in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic, beating last year’s Black Friday price by about $10.

The bad news is that deal is long gone now, and it’s quite possible that other AirPods deals aren’t far behind. It’s difficult to say when product shortages will really start to pick up as Amazon continues to primarily focus on shipping essential goods to hospitals. After all, most of the products we’ve been waiting to see come back in stock are still nowhere to be found after months of shortages.

Purell and Clorox wipes are still impossible to find at Amazon, and we may soon be able to add AirPods Pro to the list. Apple’s beloved true wireless noise cancelling earbuds were the hottest headphones of the season last year ahead of the holidays, and they have been in high demand ever since. Incredibly, Amazon recently slashed them back down to Black Friday’s lowest price ever, and they’re still available at that price right now. That said, this could be the last time for a long time that AirPods Pro are available at a discount. In light of everything that’s going on, there’s no way to say what supply might look like a week from now or even a few days from now.

Apple AirPods Pro: $234.95

For the time being, you can still head over to Amazon and you’ll be able to save 6% on AirPods Pro. You’re still looking at the same shipping quote of about a week out that we’ve been seeing, but it’s still a terrific opportunity to save on AirPods Pro and have them in your hands (and in your ears) in about a week.

If you’re not interested in active noise cancelling, you’ll find several other great AirPods deals today on Amazon. AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case are on sale for $169 instead of $199, but you can actually pick up a pair for just $119 if you get them renewed. They’re guaranteed by Amazon — not some third-party seller — to look and work like new or you can return them within 90 days for a full refund. Regular AirPods 2 are also on sale today for $139 instead of $159.

  • Netflix is always a favorite among people across the country, but that’s especially true right now as people stream more movies and shows than ever before.

Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

If you’ve been laid off or furloughed and you’re looking for ways to cut costs, we stand by our earlier recommendation. Cancel Netflix for now and use one or all of the 10 free streaming services we recommended instead. Then, once you’re back to work and you free up some cash, you can always activate your Netflix subscription again. Most of the materials you need to make those particular masks are simple things that you already have lying around your house. There are really only two things you need that might not already be readily available, and they’re both in stock and shipping now from Amazon. Definitely check out our guide for more details.

As we said, those masks are great because they’re very easy to make and they’re far more effective than just a t-shirt or a scarf. That said, they’re nowhere near as effective as medical-grade face masks that some people wear. The CDC is quite clear that “any face covering is better than nothing,” but you still shouldn’t buy N95 face masks even if you do manage to find them online or in a nearby store. Doctors, nurses, first responders, and others on the front lines of the war against the novel coronavirus have a far greater need than you do, and there is still a terrible shortage of masks and other PPE.

While it’s true that something is better than nothing, there are certainly degrees of effectiveness based on the materials and design you use. The masks in the guide linked above are more effective than any basic cloth masks, for example, but now we’ve found a guide for DIY coronavirus face masks that are even more effective than those. The guide comes from the same YouTube channel, and the vlogger basically tried to reverse-engineer an N95 mask. The end result is NOT as effective as a medical-grade respirator, of course, but it’s easily one of the best face mask designs we’ve come across. In fact, it even has its own integrated virus neutralizer.

That said, this mask is a bit more complicated than the one above and there are definitely more materials that you’ll need to make it. Here’s the full materials list:

Once you’ve got all that ready to go, you’ll find all the instructions you need in the video embedded below.

  • A leaker who revealed several Apple secrets so far, including the actual iPhone SE release date, shared on Twitter images showing the iPhone 12 design.
  • The design illustrations reveal one of the most significant changes coming to the iPhone 12 series.
  • The new iPhone will supposedly feature a smaller Face ID notch at the top, as the speaker will be moved up to the top bezel.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The iPhone 12 series will sport a brand new design, several leakers said over the course of several months. The phone will resemble the iPad Pro and iPhone 5 more than the iPhone 6 and iPhone X designs that we saw in recent years, these leaks said. The iPhone 12 will have a chassis with flat sides, and the phone is getting an entirely flat display as well. Only a few days ago, we saw the purportedly leaked iPhone 12 design that revealed, among other things, that the new handset will have even smaller bezels than before. The one thing that’s not going away this year is the Face ID notch that sits at the top of every iPhone launched since iPhone X with the exception of the iPhone SE. However, that notch is getting a lot smaller, and a well-known leaker just posted schematics for the massive notch design change.
