  • A leaker says Apple will launch a bunch of new products, unlike anything it ever made.
  • iPad Air with an under-screen Touch ID sensor and a 12-inc ARM MacBook are among the new products Apple is rumored to make this year.
  • The leaker offered accurate information about some of the products Apple launched in 2020, including the new iPad Pro series and the iPhone SE.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Apple is working on a few devices unlike anything it had made before, an anonymous leaker said. The ARM MacBook that was featured in a variety of other reports, is one of them. That’s a MacBook using a custom version of Apple’s A-series chips that power the iPhone and iPad. Several people have long theorized that the increasingly more powerful A-series processors could be used inside Macs, and it looks like we’re nearly there. The leaker also said that Apple will launch a brand new iPad Air design, a tablet that will feature an under-screen Touch ID fingerprint sensor, that would be a first for Apple, as the company avoided this particular type of technology on its devices so far.

  • Coronavirus cases in New York and New Jersey appear to have peaked.
  • States without stay-at-home orders are seeing a big increase in coronavirus cases.

Instagram co-founders Kevin Systrom and Mike Krieger recently unveiled a new website that provides an immersive and accurate look at how fast the coronavirus is spreading or subsiding on a state-by-state basis.

The site is called RT.live and uses data from the Covid Tracking Project which boasts that it houses the most complete and up-to-date data regarding coronavirus cases in the country. What makes the website unique is that it doesn’t just provide users with raw Covid-19 data — which can be found anywhere — but rather uses a statistical method to gauge the rate at which the virus is spreading.

Wireless carriers are breaking the promise not to cancel people’s service

%name Wireless carriers are breaking the promise not to cancel people’s service by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Last month, the major wireless carriers signed on to the FCC’s Keep Americans Connected Pledge, which promised no service disconnections for 60 days if consumers are having trouble paying their bills.
  • It was a reasonable pledge, given how much of a catastrophic impact the COVID-19 coronavirus has had on the US economy.
  • However, some carriers are apparently still disconnecting customers anyway.

Anthony Skojec, a furniture salesman who lives in New York who was recently furloughed from his job, got an unpleasant surprise a few days ago: His cell phone service (through Verizon) had been disconnected, and the carrier told him he’d have to pay $360 right away to get it turned back on.

Skojec went ahead and paid the money, but he had to dip into his unemployment financial assistance to do so. Which means “I can’t pay anything on the mortgage,” he told an NBC News reporter. Making matters worse when his own service was disconnected was the fact that his children’s phones and broadband connections — which they’ve depended on for remote learning during the coronavirus pandemic — were also turned off.

Pixar artists are teaching people how to draw movie characters during their quarantines

%name Pixar artists are teaching people how to draw movie characters during their quarantines by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • As the coronavirus pandemic drags on into its second month, at least for most people around the US, the long stretches of time spent at home under quarantines and stay-at-home orders can start to feel endless. People are having to get increasingly creative with quarantine activities they find to do.
  • Luckily, Pixar artists have come to the rescue — they’re offering video tutorials showing people how to draw characters from Pixar movies.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Weekends and free time have seemed an ill-defined construct, the longer the coronavirus pandemic goes on and most of us remain quarantined at home — hunkering down, marking time, riding out the virus. The days bleed into each other, one after the next, the weekends are here, and you’re still stuck at home.

People have gotten pretty creative in how they’re finding ways to keep entertained, now that the coronavirus crisis is well into its second month in the US. Quarantine Olympics, bingeing Tiger King on Netflix, and “virtually” touring art galleries and museums around the world are just some of the things people have found to do to keep busy. Meanwhile, here’s one I didn’t see coming and which the Pixar fan in me highly appreciates — the beloved film studio’s artists have begun sharing lessons you can follow to learn how to draw some of your favorite Pixar movie characters. Which, if you ask me, is hard to beat as a quality way to spend your time during your coronavirus quarantine.

Coronavirus survivors are testing positive again and showing symptoms

  • An increasing number of COVID-19 survivors have tested positive again for the novel coronavirus in South Korea.
  • The caseload of coronavirus relapses more than doubled in a week within the country.
  • An increasing number of relapsed coronavirus patients have shown mild symptoms, and some of them might be contagious.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

One of the novel coronavirus puzzles that scientists are still trying to figure out concerns an unexpected phenomenon that has been observed in many countries affected by the pandemic. Some COVID-19 patients who have been declared cured after testing negative twice in 24 hours end up relapsing, if that’s even the proper way to describe it. They test positive again at a later point in time, and there’s no clear answer as to why that happens. Also, it’s unclear whether these patients are contagious and can infect others, but some of them do show mild COVID-19 symptoms upon the second reinfection. The newest data coming from South Korea, a country that has the local COVID-19 epidemic under control, shows a growing number of people who are testing positive a second time.

Netflix arrivals and departures for the week of April 19th, 2020

%name Netflix arrivals and departures for the week of April 19th, 2020 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Netflix has another busy week ahead, with 19 new releases coming to the streaming service, including a thriller about a black market mercenary starring Chris Hemsworth.
  • The second season of Ricky Gervais’s well-received After Life is arriving this week as well.
  • If you’re a fan of Silicon Valley or Parks and Recreation, you should check out Middleditch & Schwartz, which is a series of improv shows from two very funny actors you should recognize.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We might not be getting a new Thor movie any time soon, as Disney has had to delay all of its MCU movies due to the novel coronavirus pandemic, but that doesn’t mean we can’t see Chris Hemsworth on the small screen in the meantime. Hemsworth is the star of a Netflix thriller called Extraction, which is out this week, and certainly looks thrilling. Other gems this week include After Life season 2, Middleditch & Schwartz, and Django Unchained.

  • Tesla is working on a new Smart Summon feature that would enable a vehicle to drop off the driver and then find a parking spot on its own.
  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk calls the feature Reverse Summon and indicated that it’s coming later this year.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk often likes to say that Tesla vehicles are the only cars that actually get better after they leave the lot. And while Musk is certainly prone to hyperbole, he’s pretty spot-on in this regard thanks to Tesla constantly introducing new features and enhancements via over the air software updates.

One of the more intriguing software updates we’ve seen from Tesla in recent months has been Smart Summon. As the name subtly implies, Smart Summon allows Tesla owners to remotely turn on their car and have it drive itself over to wherever they happen to be standing in a parking lot. So imagine, for example, you leave a grocery store in the rain with five bags in your hand. Instead of having to clumsily make your way over to your car and get drenched in the process, you can summon your car to pick you up.

iPhone 12 release might not happen until November

  • Apple’s iPhone 12 release date may be delayed until November 2020.
  • When the iPhone 12 does arrive, sales may be tepid in light of the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus.
  • Rumor has it Apple will decide on a firm iPhone 12 release date next month.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A new investor note from Goldman Sachs relays that Apple will delay the release of its highly-anticipated iPhone 12 until November. In turn, the investment bank — which also happens to be partners with Apple on the Apple Card — downgraded Apple shares to a rare “sell’ rating.

In a note obtained by Reuters, Goldman Sachs analysts articulated that the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus will have a marked impact on iPhone upgrades. Put simply, the note claims that iPhone owners “will keep devices longer and choose less expensive Apple options when they do buy a new device.”

Coronavirus face mask: Without one, this video shows how much you spit when you talk

%name Coronavirus face mask: Without one, this video shows how much you spit when you talk by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The CDC is now recommending that everyone wear a face mask when they’re outside of the home in order to help get the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus under control — that is, if they’re unable to stick to the social distancing guidelines of staying six feet away from other people in public.
  • A video published in the New England Journal of Medicine shows why face masks are so important. For one thing, they protect other people from all the particles we don’t realize we emit from our mouth when talking.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Everyone who works at Walmart or Sam’s Club now has to wear a face mask during their shift, an update to a policy that previously said the masks were optional. But this doesn’t just extend to the workers on the floor — the same now also holds true for anyone who works in Walmart’s distribution and fulfillment centers, as well as in its corporate offices.

This shift in recent days by the largest brick-and-mortar retailer in the world comes after a similar recommendation from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, which now says that “cloth face coverings” are recommended for everyone outside of their home when “other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain.” Anecdotally, I’ve been out of the house some in recent days, and face mask usage still doesn’t seem to be terribly widespread (there are plenty of reasons for that, of course, such as the shifting and confusing guidance from health officials at first, in the early days of the coronavirus crisis). But if you want to see a pretty basic, straightforward visualization of why it’s important for everyone to wear face masks right now, this video from the New England Journal of Medicine should make things pretty clear.
