  • One result of the widespread coronavirus quarantines and stay-at-home orders around the country is that people are bingeing Netflix right now more than ever before.
  • This week’s list of the most-watched shows on Netflix includes favorites like Tiger King and Money Heist, plus lots of long-running Netflix shows like Stanger Things and Ozark.
  • This week’s data of what’s hot on Netflix covers the week of April 9 through April 15.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Another week down, another stretch of working from home and trying to keep from going stir crazy while our coronavirus quarantines keep grinding on. Now that the weekend’s here, it’s a sure bet that Netflix traffic is about to basically skyrocket — assuming everyone is still staying home like they’re supposed to and not violating social distancing guidelines.

For some reason that boggles my mind, Tiger King is near the top of the list as it has been for almost every week since its release. But there are some other top draw series all over the list this week, and especially near the top of the ranking (provided to BGR, as always, by the team at streaming search engine Reelgood). Money Heist, for example, is the Spanish-language series about a group of criminals who get together to pull off an epic heist — a series that’s won basically every award available in its home country, and which just so happens to be at the top of this week’s list of the most-watched shows on Netflix.

Doctors are raising money to train dogs to detect coronavirus

  • Doctors from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine are raising funds to train dogs to detect coronavirus patients by smell.
  • Dogs can already be taught to identify various diseases, including malaria and Parkinson’s.
  • If successful, dogs able to sniff out COVID-19 patients could be deployed in crowded places in the future for screening purposes.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We told you a few weeks ago that doctors at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM) are looking to train dogs to detect coronavirus patients by smell. If successful, this sort of screening process could help authorities manage crowded areas like airports once social distancing measures are eased in the UK and other countries. The goal of the program is to teach the dogs to sniff out asymptomatic COVID-19 patients and therefore reduce the spread of the virus. The LSHTM program is raising money on Indiegogo right now.

Anti-vaxxers already have unfathomably stupid coronavirus theories

%name Anti vaxxers already have unfathomably stupid coronavirus theories by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Anti-vaxxers are already attacking coronavirus vaccine development with wild conspiracy theories and unfounded claims.
  • Popular anti-vaccination “activists” allege that the virus isn’t as bad as everyone says.
  • Some of the more unhinged conspiracy theorists are blaming 5G wireless networks for the viral pandemic.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The dangerously misguided anti-vaccination movement is based on junk science and outright lies, so you just had to know that the novel coronavirus pandemic would add even more fuel to the conspiratorial fire. It appears to have done just that, and as doctors and scientists around the globe furiously work to develop a vaccine that could save countless lives, there are already people actively working to undermine their efforts.

Anti-vaxxers around the world have been coming up with their own explanations for how and why the coronavirus pandemic descended upon the global populous, and they’re a predictable mix of unprovable claims, laughable conspiracy theories, and dangerous lies.

Carole Baskin filmed a bunch of videos to convince you ‘Tiger King’ is a lie

%name Carole Baskin filmed a bunch of videos to convince you ‘Tiger King’ is a lie by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Tiger King is continuing its domination of Netflix’s ranking of its most popular TV series in the US, with the docu-series about a flamboyant tiger breeder named Joe Exotic having held the #1 spot for weeks on end now.
  • Joe’s erstwhile rival Carole Baskin, who the series presents in an unforgiving light, has filmed a bunch of videos and posted a long response to errors she believes the production made.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Does anyone want to take a guess what phrase Google autocompletes when you go to the search bar and start typing in “Carole Baskin …”? If you’re one of the millions of people who binged Netflix’s Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem, and Madness — which has been and remains the top Netflix TV series in the US right, based on the streamer’s own rankings you can see inside the app — you already know the answer.

Tiger King doesn’t actually answer the question of whether or not Carole killed her husband by feeding him to the animals in her sanctuary, though it strongly hints at such and leaves that impression with viewers. That question has gone on to become the stuff of Internet gold, with one Twitter user even showing how he’s having a bit of self-indulgent fun while quarantining at home because of the coronavirus — asking delivery drivers to place his packages under the “Yes” or “No” in response to the question taped to his door asking for their opinion about whether Carole, in fact, did it. Meantime, you might be asking, how’s Carole feeling about all this? What’s her response?

Former Xbox chief critiques Sony’s new PS5 DualSense controller

%name Former Xbox chief critiques Sony’s new PS5 DualSense controller by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Sony last week showed off its new DualSense controller for the PS5.
  • The controller boasts a completely new look and form factor.
  • Former Xbox director of marketing Albert Penello has some doubts about the new design.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Last week, Sony officially unveiled the design of its DualSense controller for the PlayStation 5. The new controller is certainly different from previous PlayStation controllers and, in my opinion, is a huge improvement from both an aesthetic and seemingly an ergonomic standpoint.

Personally, I’ve always been partial to the Xbox controller because I think it looks better and, more importantly, I find it more comfortable to hold for extended periods of time. The new DualSense controller for the PS 5, however, seems to have borrowed a quite few design elements from previous Xbox controllers and, to be honest, I’m pretty jazzed about it.

WHO says there’s a big problem with coronavirus antibodies and immunity

%name WHO says there’s a big problem with coronavirus antibodies and immunity by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The World Health Organization (WHO) said that coronavirus immunity testing could prove that someone survived COVID-19, but there’s no proof that a person is immune to the virus.
  • The remarks come in response to increased chatter about immunity tests and immunity passports for the weeks and months ahead.
  • Scientists studying the new SARS-CoV-2 virus haven’t been able to figure out how long immunity lasts, given the disease is just a few months old at this point.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

More than 2.2 million people worldwide have been confirmed as infected with the novel coronavirus as of Saturday morning. COVID-19 needed just three months to kill more than 154,000 patients and upend our daily lives. Social distancing measures have become the norm in most countries, and medical systems have been rushing to ensure they have enough supplies and tests. At the same time, doctors have been experimenting with all sorts of known drugs to alleviate COVID-19 symptoms and prevent life-threatening complications. Separately, researchers came out with an increasing number of studies for the new disease, while others created more than 70 vaccine candidates for SARS-CoV-2.

The general consensus is that COVID-19 immunity is what will help us get past this modern plague, and that can be done by surviving the infection or getting a vaccine. But the WHO has some bad news about COVID-19 immunity. Right now, the mere detection of antibodies doesn’t guarantee protection against the disease.

The IRS started depositing stimulus checks – but not everyone is happy

%name The IRS started depositing stimulus checks – but not everyone is happy by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The IRS started depositing $1,200 into millions of bank accounts this week as part of the government’s $2 trillion stimulus package.
  • There have been some stimulus check problems as some people are receiving too much money and others not enough.
  • The IRS is aware of some technical issues and has rolled out a few online tools to help the situation.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

With large portions of the economy at a standstill due to the coronavirus, and with unemployment at record levels, President Trump late last month signed a $2 trillion stimulus package designed to help keep the economy afloat. As part of the package, millions of eligible Americans will receive $1,200 checks to help them get through what is arguably an unprecedented economic downturn.

Earlier this week, the IRS started making said payments and many individuals noticed an additional $1,200 sitting in their bank accounts. But as it turns out, there have been quite a few glitches along the way. While some eligible individuals still haven’t received their payment, others are getting far too much deposited into their accounts and others far too little. As an extreme example, you may have seen that a man in Indiana checked his bank account earlier this week and noticed an IRS deposit of $8.2 million. More commonly, some individuals are noticing they’re not receiving additional funds for their dependents.

Huge iPhone 12 leak shows how Apple beats Android yet again

%name Huge iPhone 12 leak shows how Apple beats Android yet again by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The iPhone 12 Pro Max design has leaked, revealing several new design features of Apple’s 2020 iPhone series.
  • The schematics prompted a Samsung leaker to say that the new design will be a nightmare for Android.
  • The iPhone 12 is supposed to improve upon the iPhone X design, a phone that forced Android vendors to come up with copycats and then create attractive all-screen designs of their own.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

When the iPhone X was unveiled in 2017, it became the phone everyone else in the industry would try to copy. The iPhone X was hardly the only “all-screen” phone at the time, but it was the best option out there. While most Android rivals copied the iPhone X design in the year that followed, they all focused on the notch aspect of the phone, failing to copy the most brilliant feature of the iPhone X design. Android vendors perfected their all-screen designs last year and shifted away from copying the notch in the process. When the iPhone 12 arrives, however, it will kick Android right in the “chin.” At least, that’s what a long-time Samsung leaker says.

Astronomers just found an exoplanet shockingly similar to Earth

  • Astronomers have discovered a planet so similar to Earth in size that it could be our planet’s twin.
  • The planet, Kepler-1649c, is in the habitable zone of its star, raising the possibility of habitability.
  • The planet’s star is a red dwarf, which are known to produce flares that could extinguish life.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Earth, as far as any of us know, is the only planet that has all the right ingredients for life. When astronomers gaze out past our solar system in search of new worlds it’s impossible to know exactly what is happening on its surface. Still, by measuring everything that can be measured from afar, we can get a pretty good idea of just how habitable or hostile any given planet might be.

Scientists using data gathered by NASA’s Kepler Space Telescope have stumbled upon a planet that checks a lot of the boxes we’d consider crucial in the search for extraterrestrial life. It’s called Kepler-1649c and in terms of size, it could basically be Earth’s twin.
