NASA’s Mars Helicopter — part of the Mars 2020 mission — was just installed on the Perseverance rover as the team prepares for the launch of the mission in July.
The helicopter won’t have any scientific objectives but will demonstrate what may be possible when it comes to flying on Mars.
Weighing just four pounds, the helicopter will initially be powered by the Perseverance rover but will gather solar energy after it is deployed, remaining up and running for up to a month.

Detecting the novel coronavirus infection isn’t the only thing healthcare professionals are interested in. It’s as important to test COVID-19 immunity to determine the actual number of people who have had the disease in a community.
Immunity testing could open the door to so-called “immunity passports” that demonstrate the bearer has survived the infection.
However, it’s not known how long COVID-19 immunity lasts, and additional measures will have to be put in place to reduce the risk of reinfection and contain new outbreaks.

One UK wedding and portrait photographer has found a way to keep his business going during the coronavirus pandemic and still take peoples’ photos in spite of widespread quarantines.
His solution: FaceTime, which allows him to direct subjects from afar, take a screen capture, and then using his tools to edit the result.

UK-based wedding and portrait photographer Tim Dunk didn’t know what he would do at first, when the coronavirus outbreak exploded across Europe and necessitated widespread business closures and quarantine orders. How do you keep taking peoples’ photos when you’re not, ah, allowed to be anywhere near them?

Instead of panicking, though, he began toying with an idea. Maybe there was a way to keep going after all — a creative solution that would let him ride out the pandemic until things get back to normal. Turns out, the answer was right in front of him, via his iPhone: FaceTime. “I started to think around ways I could effectively make portraits of my friends, and keep my brain stimulated,” Dunk (@tim_dunk, on Instagram) told BGR. “I put a shout out to some friends to see if anyone was up for trying to use the fairly basic imaging capabilities of FaceTime, initially just as a fun experiment, and a way of collaborating with my creative mates around the world.”

A team of British scientists thinks it can have a vaccine for the COVID-19 coronavirus ready by this fall — as soon as September, according to the team’s lead researcher.
This news comes as the global death toll from the coronavirus has passed 100,000, and Britain’s prime minister Boris Johnson who’s tested positive for the coronavirus was recently moved into intensive care.

The global toll from the COVID-19 coronavirus has reached another grim milestone, surpassing 100,000 deaths from the virus, while the world waits to see the first tangible results from teams spanning multiple countries that are racing to make a vaccine ready.

To that end, scientists in Britain provided new hope over the weekend that a finished product is coming soon, and perhaps much sooner than even the most optimistic experts predicted. Sarah Gilbert, a professor of vaccinology at Oxford University, told The Times of London that the team of scientists that she leads — one of dozens around the world trying to develop a vaccine — could have one ready as soon as September. And that, at least at this point, she’s “80% confident” that it will be a successful vaccine.

Despite some indications that the coronavirus may have peaked in some U.S. areas, the pandemic is still ravaging many areas across the country. Just this past week, for instance, New York City — which has been categorized as the epicenter of the virus in the United States — saw its highest single-day death toll from the coronavirus. All told, new data from the John Hopkins Coronavirus Resources Center indicates that the cumulative number of coronavirus cases in the U.S. now exceeds 500,000. Meanwhile, the total number of coronavirus-related deaths in the U.S. recently reached 20,000 and surpassed Italy in the process.
