  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

2020 has already thrown us a real curveball with the novel coronavirus pandemic, dramatically changing the way many of us live our lives. But if you thought we’d catch a break in the latter half of the year, you better think again, because forecasters are now predicting an above-average hurricane season in the Atlantic, with at least four major storms of Category 3 to 5, and a total of sixteen named storms.

The predictions come from researchers at Colorado State University Department of Atmospheric Science. In their report, the scientists warn that coastal residents should always do their best to be prepared for hurricanes no matter what the forecast says.

Tesla’s Model 3 helped anchor the company’s best first quarter in history

%name Tesla’s Model 3 helped anchor the company’s best first quarter in history by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Tesla delivered 88,400 vehicles last quarter, marking the best “first quarter performance” the company has ever had.
  • Tesla’s Model 3 was once again the company’s most popular vehicle, with year over year deliveries increasing by nearly 50%.
  • Model S and Model X deliveries, year over year, essentially remained unchanged.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Tesla earlier today announced that it produced nearly 103,000 vehicles during the first quarter of 2020. Meanwhile, deliveries for the quarter checked in at 88,400. Put simply, these numbers are remarkable, with Tesla noting that it represents the “best ever first quarter performance” in company history.

As to the delivery breakdown across the company’s product line, it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the Model 3 accounted for the vast majority of deliveries throughout the quarter. Specifically, Model S and Model X deliveries cumulatively checked in at 12,200 units while Model 3 and Model Y deliveries checked in at 76,200 units. And seeing as how Model Y deliveries didn’t even begin until two weeks ago, it’s clear that the Model 3 certainly anchored Tesla’s performance this past quarter.

The coronavirus pandemic made the entire Earth quieter

%name The coronavirus pandemic made the entire Earth quieter by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Coronavirus lockdown measures have forced daily life to change, and that means humans are making less noise on Earth.
  • With less traffic and other human movements, seismologists are noticing huge dips in the amount of background seismic noise in their readings.
  • A cleaner reading and less noise could give researchers a rare opportunity to capture particularly accurate data.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

You don’t have to look far to see societal changes brought on by the coronavirus pandemic. Daily life is different these days for a lot of people, and those changes seem to have extended to our planet itself. We’ve already seen examples of how areas with heavy air pollution have cleared up dramatically as people remain home for extended periods of time, and now a new phenomenon has been observed. The Earth is actually quieter.

As Newsweek reports, researchers have noticed a significant decrease in the amount of vibration on Earth’s surface. This “seismic noise” is created by human movements such as driving, construction work, and anything else that might make the ground shake. Well, since the COVID-19 pandemic began, the whole planet is quite a bit quieter.

Amazon and Whole Foods workers will now get masks and daily temperature checks

%name Amazon and Whole Foods workers will now get masks and daily temperature checks by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Amazon is planning to step up its protective measures for workers to check them for coronavirus symptoms.
  • Starting next week, Amazon warehouse workers and workers at Amazon-owned Whole Foods will get masks and daily temperature checks.
  • Those new protections come as coronavirus projections continue to worry public and private sector health officials, who keep warning the worst of the crisis is yet to come.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

After many of its workers have complained for weeks now of inadequate protective measures against the coronavirus and some even staged a walkout in recent days, Amazon is now pledging new steps to protect the health of workers in its massive warehouses as well as at Amazon-owned Whole Foods.

Starting next week, those workers will be given daily temperature checks, since having a fever is one of the signs of coronavirus infection. Sources have told Reuters that Amazon plans to use no-contact forehead thermometers at warehouse entrances to measure all workers coming in, and anyone with a temperature greater than 100.4 Fahrenheit will be sent home.

Benchmarks for Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20+ just leaked online

%name Benchmarks for Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20+ just leaked online by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Benchmark scores for Samsung’s next-gen Galaxy Note 20+ have leaked online.
  • Samsung’s upcoming phablet will likely trounce all other Android handsets performance-wise, though it will have similar specs to the recently released Galaxy S20.
  • The device, however, may not come close to matching what Apple will deliver with the A14 poised to power its upcoming iPhone 12. It’s still unclear, however, if the iPhone 12 will be released in 2020.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Even though we’re barely a month removed from Samsung introducing its next-gen Galaxy S20 smartphone lineup, we’re already starting to see a lot of rumors for the Galaxy Note 20+ starting to make their way down the pipeline. Of course, this shouldn’t come as much of a surprise given that Samsung, in stark contrast to Apple, has never really seemed to care about product leaks. If anything, the company seems to embrace them and it’s not unusual for us to know every single detail about a new Samsung product a few weeks before the company officially unveils it.

Just a few weeks ago, for instance, word surfaced that Samsung’s Galaxy Note 20+ will take advantage of next-gen flash storage with faster read and write speeds. In short, the Note 20+ will provide some performance improvements over the Galaxy S20. Incidentally, there are also rumblings that all entry-level Note 20 models will ship with 128GB of storage.

  • The coronavirus impact on the economy has been severe, to the point of catastrophe for many business owners that have been forced to close for an indefinite period of time and lay off workers.
  • Many restaurants are trying to hang on by offering to-go and delivery meal options, but a survey of restaurant owners finds that the vast majority don’t think they’ll be able to endure a closure that lasts more than a month.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

If you’re spending part of your coronavirus quarantine at home trying your best to order takeout or delivery in support of your favorite local restaurant — and you should, because so many of them are barely getting by right now — we’ve got some unsurprising news about the future of many of those eateries.

According to a recent James Beard Foundation survey of food industry players like chefs and restaurant owners, most restaurants (60% of survey respondents) said their restaurant wouldn’t be able to survive if it had to close for a month. The vast majority (75%) said a two-month closure would be an absolute death-knell for their business.
