How to avoid coronavirus while ordering food for delivery

%name How to avoid coronavirus while ordering food for delivery by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Restaurants all around the United States are closed to customers due to the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Many of those restaurants are offering pickup and delivery to survive, and while some people might be concerned about catching the coronavirus from their food, data suggests this is unlikely.
  • If you want to be extra careful, there are steps you can take to make your food deliveries even safer.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Living in New York City, I order out far more often than I would in maybe any other city in the entire country. Over 200 restaurants will deliver food right to my front door, and so when the entire city shut down due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, I wanted to do my part to help support the establishments that I love in my neighborhood. But after reading reports about the virus living for hours or even days on certain surfaces, I was concerned that I might put myself at risk (and thus anyone else I come in contact with) by bringing food delivery into my apartment.

You can imagine my relief when I read the guide to coronavirus food safety on Serious Eats, which explains that of all the hundreds of thousands of COVID-19 cases to date, there is no evidence that the disease has ever spread through food or food packaging. But if you want to be extra careful, there are steps you can take.

Woman coughed on $35,000 worth of groceries to stoke coronavirus fears

%name Woman coughed on $35,000 worth of groceries to stoke coronavirus fears by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • With the coronavirus pandemic encouraging new standards in personal hygiene, a woman in Pennsylvania deliberately coughed on $35,000 worth of food at a grocery store.
  • The woman was apprehended and ultimately arrested by local police. It’s unclear if the woman has the coronavirus, but the store’s co-owner said he will do everything possible to get her tested.
  • All of the food in question was promptly thrown into the trash.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A crisis like the coronavirus pandemic can sometimes bring out the best in people. Over the past few weeks, for example, we’ve seen a number of stories involving people going out of their way to monetarily help complete strangers pay their bills on time.

At the same time, a crisis like the coronavirus can also bring out the worst in people. While some folks are selfishly hoarding enough toilet paper to last for months on end, others are using the coronavirus as an opportunity to scam unsuspecting victims out of their hard-earned money.

New AI-powered blood test could reveal lung cancer without a CT scan

%name New AI powered blood test could reveal lung cancer without a CT scan by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A blood test that uses machine learning to hunt for cancer DNA could reveal lung cancer in patients who otherwise would never have been tested.
  • The system is accurate in roughly two-thirds of patients, but that may be enough to save an additional 1,200 lives per year, according to the scientists who developed it.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A team of scientists in the United States has developed a blood test that uses machine learning to hunt for the telltale signs of lung cancer. The system, which is still early in its development, could eventually replace CT scans as a first-line screening measure for suspected lung cancer patients.

The test hunts for tumor DNA that is circulating in a person’s blood, and is far less expensive than CT scans which are typically used to diagnose lung cancer. It’s not yet ready to be used on a widespread basis or relied upon in real-world settings, but the research is incredibly promising and could prove to be a powerful weapon against one of the deadliest types of cancer.

Use this calculator to estimate how big your coronavirus stimulus check will be

%name Use this calculator to estimate how big your coronavirus stimulus check will be by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The Trump administration is poised to start sending out emergency stimulus checks to Americans to counter the financial impact of the novel coronavirus that’s dramatically upended life in the country.
  • Here’s a calculator so you can estimate the size of your check, which will generally be $1,200 for individuals and $2,400 for married couples, though there are some exceptions.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Now that the US Senate has passed its version of a $2 trillion stimulus bill meant to provide some financial aid that blunts the catastrophic impact of the novel coronavirus, the federal government is poised to begin sending out emergency checks — or, in some cases, direct deposits — to help Americans whose incomes have been disrupted.

The virus has resulted in a slew of quarantines and stay-at-home orders around the country, such that millions of Americans are hunkering down at home right now and, if they can’t shift to a work-from-home arrangement, have either seen their income completely eliminated or at least reduced to some degree. The direct financial aid proposed by the Trump administration will help a little, providing $1,200 payments to adults (double that for couples) along with an extra $500 for every child under the age of 18. How much are you going to get, exactly? Use the calculator below to estimate your total, since there are income qualification tiers to be aware of.

Verizon and AT&T are waiving overage fees, but there’s a catch

%name Verizon and AT&T are waiving overage fees, but there’s a catch by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • AT&T and Verizon will waive late fees and overage charges for the next 60 days.
  • The move comes in response to the coronavirus’s ongoing impact on the U.S. economy.
  • A record number of Americans applied for unemployment benefits this month.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

With the U.S. economy in dire shape and millions of people currently struggling to pay their bills, Verizon and AT&T recently announced that they will not charge subscribers overage fees for exceeding their monthly bandwidth allotment.

It’s a nice gesture, but the rub is that the overage fees will not be waived automatically. Rather, subscribers will have to contact Verizon and AT&T directly via the phone. We can only hope that there will be enough staff on-hand to accommodate what could very well be an avalanche of people calling in.

Microsoft says Xbox Series X unlikely to be delayed by coronavirus

%name Microsoft says Xbox Series X unlikely to be delayed by coronavirus by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The Xbox Series X was originally scheduled to launch during the 2020 holiday season.
  • Despite the novel coronavirus pandemic, Microsoft says that its supply chain is “back on rails” and that it doesn’t expect any of its new hardware, including the Xbox Series X, to be delayed.
  • On the whole, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella thinks that the company is weathering the storm well.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

As we all attempt to navigate a viral pandemic that has forced much of the world to shut down, it’s important to not let the doom and gloom overwhelm you. Everyone has different ways of coping with disaster, and for many of us, gaming is a helpful escape, as evidenced by the record-breaking sales of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which launched for the Switch last week. So, while it may not be a top priority, the potential delays of the next-gen consoles have been a topic of conversation for months, but Microsoft tried to put those fears to rest this week.

Speaking with CNBC on Tuesday, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said that the hardware supply chain is revving back up now that the novel coronavirus outbreak has been contained in much of Asia. When asked if the company would be able to deliver the products it had planned to release by the end of the year before COVID-19 became such a pressing concern, Nadella said this: “On the supply side we are getting back on rails.”

Plex offers free live TV through June 30th to make your coronavirus quarantine less boring

%name Plex offers free live TV through June 30th to make your coronavirus quarantine less boring by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The media server app Plex has joined a growing list of companies offering free goods and services to Americans hunkering down as the novel coronavirus continues to spread — and the pandemic leaves millions of Americans quarantined at home.
  • Plex is offering free live TV for the next three months, through June 30. So while the coronavirus impact has been profound and far-reaching, at least this is one way to make your shelter-in-place compliance a bit more bearable.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The team at Plex, a media server app that’s become something of a favorite of cord-cutters, says they’ve heard from plenty of users of the past few weeks about how the service has been a key piece of users’ shelter-in-place regimen amid the growing spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

And in a newly published company blog post, Plex adds that it’s making something available so that users can find a little more enjoyment in the moments spent hunkering down at home because of coronavirus quarantines when they might otherwise be out enjoying the world: The service is offering free live TV through June 30. For the next three months, the company’s post announces, live TV will be free of charge without the requirement of a Plex Pass.

OnePlus 8 Pro leaked press renders reveal the phone’s final design

%name OnePlus 8 Pro leaked press renders reveal the phone’s final design by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Leaked OnePlus 8 Pro official renders give us a detailed look at the next flagship phone from OnePlus.
  • The design has changed fairly drastically from the OnePlus 7T, as the OnePlus 8 feature a hole-punch selfie camera instead of a teardrop notch and a long, thin rear camera array instead of a circular one.
  • Previous reports have suggested OnePlus will hold a launch event to announce the phone on April 15th.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Even in the midst of an unprecedented pandemic, smartphone leaks continue to pop up online every day as if nothing has changed. The latest leak comes from a familiar source, as Steve Hemmerstoffer (@OnLeaks) has teamed up with iGeeksBlog to share what are purported to be the first official press renders of the OnePlus 8 Pro.

The next flagship phone from OnePlus has been the subject of many leaks over the past few months, including one from Robert Downey Jr., who, in addition to playing Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, is also a brand ambassador for OnePlus and starred in this bizarre ad for the Chinese phone vendor. But the latest leak is the most comprehensive yet, giving us a look at the final design and specifications of the OnePlus 8 Pro.

Hospitals might have to stop trying to resuscitate coronavirus patients who code

%name Hospitals might have to stop trying to resuscitate coronavirus patients who code by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Hospitals are already discussing new resuscitation protocols for critical COVID-19 patients who might experience cardiac arrest as their case worsens.
  • Some healthcare professionals are looking at universal do-not-resuscitate orders for coronavirus patients, which could prevent the infection of medical staff and other patients, as well as freeing up staff and conserving precious protective gear.
  • Performing CPR on a COVID-19 patient requires a team of doctors and nurses, as well as personal protection equipment, which could delay the response.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We’re less than 10,000 patients away from an incredibly sad milestone for the novel coronavirus: 500,000 confirmed cases. By the time countries around the world finish reporting the stats for Thursday, we will have passed that number by several thousand people. More than 22,000 people died fighting the COVID-19 disease. A staggering 353,000 active cases still need medical attention. That means many of them will require hospitalization or regular checkups at home. Most people who get the new disease might not experience severe symptoms, and most people will recover and develop some immunity against the new virus. But it’s the elderly and people with other health problems who are most likely to experience life-threatening COVID-19 cases. They will need oxygen, ventilators, and an ICU bed. And some of them may go into cardiopulmonary arrest, which turns out to be a huge problem not just for the patient whose heart just stopped, but for the entire team that must perform CPR and for other patients.
