Drugs and vaccines for COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus, are currently being tested and developed.
While some of the drugs being tested already exist on the market, they need to be put through their paces before they can be used widely to treat COVID-19.
A true coronavirus vaccine is almost certainly at least 18 months away from being made available.

For the United States, the question is no longer whether or not it will take months for city- and state-wide shutdowns to end and our lives to go back to normal, but rather how many months it will take. Until we’re able to flatten the curve and ensure that our hospitals won’t be overwhelmed by an influx of sick patients who have been infected by the novel coronavirus, social distancing, shelter-in-place orders, and bans on large gatherings will be the norm. The only hope we have for expediting that process is the discovery of a drug that can treat COVID-19.

As it stands, there are no drugs or vaccines that have been approved to treat the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus, no matter what the president claims. That said, treatments and medications are being tested and developed as I type this, and Matthew Harper of Stat News has offered up his forecast for when they might be ready.

Apple retail stores will re-open during the first half of April. The openings will be staggered and stores in areas where the coronavirus is still an active threat will likely remain closed.
Though the coronavirus is still spreading in major metropolitan areas, Donald Trump earlier today said that he hopes stores will begin to open up by Easter, which falls on April 12 this year.
Apple closed its retail stores on March 14, a move which was then followed by a number of other prominent retail chains, including Nike and Calvin Klein.

Apple plans to reopen its retail stores during the first of April, according to a new report from VentureBeat. Recall, coronavirus fears prompted Apple to close all of its retail stores outside of China about 10 days ago. Though Apple initially said all of its retail stores would reopen by March 27, the company subsequently indicated that stores would remain closed “until further notice.”

It remains unclear what prompted Apple to put a timeline on store reopenings, but it may have a little something to do with Donald Trump earlier today stating that he wants stores to open back up for business by Easter, which incidentally falls on April 12th.

Rumors of Apple releasing augmented reality-powered glasses have been making the rounds for years, though it remains unclear if the product will ever make it out of the development stage.

Remember a few years ago when the biggest Apple rumor centered around whether or not Apple was going to design its own HDTV? YouTube will reduce video quality globally for 30 days

In response to the coronavirus pandemic, YouTube video streams will play in standard definition by default for a full month. HD video can be viewed if manually selected.
Netflix recently announced plans to lower video stream quality in Australia and India for the next 30 days. The company is already reducing video quality across Europe.
The coronavirus also prompted Amazon to lower the quality of its Prime Video streams in Europe.

With more people staying at home and watching streaming content than ever before — thanks, of course to the coronavirus — sites like Netflix and YouTube recently lowered the quality of their streams in Europe in order to lessen the burden on Internet providers.

And now comes word that similar measures are being taken in the United States and across the world. In a move that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone, YouTube today will start lowering the video quality for users across the globe. As such, videos by default will play in standard definition, though users will retain the option to switch over to HD if they so choose.

Coronavirus epicenter Wuhan, China, is slowly lifting restrictions related to the pandemic and subsequent lockdown.
Citizens in the Hubei region will be allowed to travel once again, though only if they have been cleared as healthy and given a QR code confirming their health status.
Residents of Wuhan, Hubei’s capital, can resume travel starting on April 8th, though it will still be a long time before lockdown measures are lifted entirely.

China’s Wuhan region, once ground zero of the coronavirus pandemic, is slowly inching toward normalcy. Chinese officials have revealed their plans to begin to lift the strict lockdown the region’s residents have endured for months. New cases of the virus have been absent for nearly a week now, and that has offered health officials a sense of optimism that the worst of the pandemic is behind them.

Still, it won’t be an immediate return to business-as-usual in Wuhan, and there are still some rather strict measures in place to ensure that only healthy individuals are traveling. That means verifying that those who are out and about are healthy and ensuring that those still sick remain home or under medical supervision until they are well.

Coronavirus vaccine developer Moderna said the mRNA-1273 drug that’s currently in the clinical trials phase might be ready to be deployed as soon as this fall.
The first beneficiaries could be healthcare workers and other professionals in the medical field.
A vaccine that could prevent the general public from contracting COVID-19 disease will not be available for up to 18 months.

COVID-19 has no cure right now, and that’s why the strict social distancing measures are so critical. Combined with proper hand-washing and improved hygiene, the quarantine will buy scientists precious time to come up with therapies that can kill the novel coronavirus and increase the speed of recovery for infected patients. Others will continue to advance the various vaccine programs that are underway, which is the only type of cure that can prevent future coronavirus reinfections and outbreaks. Currently, the World Health Organization (WHO) is conducting a massive trial, testing four separate drugs that have shown promising results against the virus in more limited tests. The WHO is also collaborating with scientists on at least 20 vaccines, of which one is already in testing in the US. That very same vaccine might be deployed as soon as this fall, although only healthcare workers and certain other professionals might get it.

iOS 13.4 was just released for all iPhone users

After releasing five different versions of the iOS 13.4 and iPadOS 13.4 developer betas, Apple just released the final version of iOS 13.4 to the public.
It’s not a huge update, but iOS 13.4 and iPadOS 13.4 include new Memojis, a CarKey API that will let people use the iPhone as a car key, iCloud folder sharing, new keyboard shortcuts for the iPad, and to purchase bundled iOS and Mac apps.
With Apple’s updated iOS 14 platform set to debut at the virtual WWDC 2020 event Apple will host in June, iOS 13.4 could be the last major iOS 13 update to be released before the first iOS 14 beta is released this summer.

Apple released the fifth developer betas of iOS 13.4 and iPadOS 13.4 last week, and it looks like enough wrinkles have now been ironed out to make the software fit for public consumption. Apple on Tuesday released the final version of iOS 13.4 for the iPhone and iPadOS 13.4 for the iPad, and they’re both available to download and install on Apple mobile devices beginning immediately. It seemed pretty obvious that the release would come today since Apple just released new iPad Pro models that ship with iPadOS 13.4, but now the new software is available to anyone and everyone with a supported Apple device.

As for new functionality, iOS 13.4 isn’t the most exciting new release but it does pack a few nice new features to go along with all the iOS 13.3 bugs that have been squashed. Examples include brand new Memojis, iCloud folder sharing, and the ability to bundle iOS and Mac apps, And let’s not forget the crazy new CarKey API that will let users leave their key fobs at home and use an iPhone as a car key on supported car models. On top of that, anyone who plans to buy Apple’s new Powerbeats4 wireless headphones will need iOS 13.4 in order to take full advantage of all the new features.
