Apple may announce a new Apple TV with more storage and a faster processor later this year. Apple TV was last updated more than two years ago.
tvOS will reportedly include a new Kids Mode feature that will allow parents to restrict access to certain programs and specific apps.
Apple will likely introduce tvOS at WWDC this year, an event which is now an online-only event due to the coronavirus.

According to a new post from Hebrew-language site The Verifier, Apple is planning to add some new Apple TV features to tvOS in the near future. Like any Apple rumor, you’ll want to take this report with a grain of salt, though it’s worth noting that the site has previously provided accurate information about upcoming iOS features.

That disclaimer aside, the site claims that the next tvOS release will allow Apple TV owners to create a dedicate Kids Mode which will naturally come with restrictions as to what type of content can be selected and viewed. Parents will also be able to restrict access to specified programs. Additionally, entire apps can be blocked. So, for example, parents can prevent their kids from even opening up apps like YouTube or HBO in the first place, if they so choose.

As the novel coronavirus pandemic rages on, Verizon announced a plan to give subscribers 15GB of additional data for free.
The free 15GB allotment goes into effect today and will end on April 30.
Verizon also said that its waiving overage charges and will not terminate individuals for lack of payment.

With the coronavirus forcing millions of Americans into lockdown mode, the last thing anyone wants to worry about is how close they are to exceeding their allotted mobile data for the month. This is a particularly pressing issue given that mobile data usage is likely at an all-time high these days as the number of quarantined Americans mushrooms with each passing week.

The good news, though, is that Verizon today announced a few initiatives designed to alleviate that worry. In a press release published a short while ago, Verizon said that its waiving overage charges for residential and small business wireless customers whose economic situation has been adversely impacted by the coronavirus.

The Shawshank Redemption, starring Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins, is the biggest loss in April.

With social distancing now in full effect and my personal quarantine in full swing, I’ve been streaming more TV shows and movies over the last two weeks than I had all year. Shows that I once might have scrolled past are now suddenly looking far more interesting than they once did, as I’m becoming less picky the longer I’m stuck inside. I imagine that many of you are feeling the same way, which is why it’s hard to believe Netflix is actually going to take content away from us throughout the next month (as it always does, since that’s how licensing works).

The good news is that, unlike in March, the TV shows and movies being removed in April aren’t all that enticing. Sure, losing The Shawshank Redemption hurts, but nothing else on the list we’ve put together will have you rushing to your TV. That said, this is your last chance to stream them for the foreseeable future.

With so much misinformation about the coronavirus swirling about, Apple recently updated Siri to better help inform users who think they might be exhibiting coronavirus symptoms. And while this might seem pointless given the plethora of information available via a quick Google search, you’d be surprised at some of the conspiracy theories, fake cures, and downright misleading information being passed around online and presented as factual.

In light of that, iPhone users can now ask, “Hey Siri, do I have the coronavirus?” whereupon they’ll be prompted to answer a series of yes or no questions to better “help you understand your situation.” Apple makes a point of noting that the answers it provides come from the US Public Health Service in concert with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

T-Mobile has announced a series of new steps it’s taking to help Americans impacted by the coronavirus crisis, which include everything from launching its most affordable plan yet (for $15/month, offering unlimited talk and text plus 2GB of data). That new plan, called T-Mobile Connect, launches on March 25, the same day that Metro by T-Mobile is likewise launching its most affordable plan to-date, an unlimited talk and text plan with 2GB of data that for the next 60 days will cost $15/month.

The 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, set to begin on July 24th, have officially been postponed.
This is the first time in history that the Olympic Games have been postponed, although they have been canceled due to wars, including once during WW1 and twice during WWII.
The International Olympic Committee will make a decision about when the 2020 Olympics will take place in the next four weeks, but moving to 2021 seems likely.

Every major event or gathering set to take place in the next few months has either been canceled or postponed, but there was one holdout that seemingly refused to accept reality: The Olympics. Does anyone remember calling your friends on the phone and chatting about shows while TV together? I used to do it all the time, and hopefully I’m not dating myself too much with that admission. It was a great way to connect and have a shared experience despite being apart. It was also a great way to piss off your parents since you would be hogging the phone for hours at a time.

In an age where everything and everyone is always connected, people don’t often share experiences like that. After all, younger generations rarely watch live TV these days. Instead, people have their streaming services of choice and they watch content on demand whenever they want to. Then, after they’re done watching, they might chat about the show with friends and family at some later point in time. There’s obviously nothing wrong with that, but the COVID-19 coronavirus outbreak changes things a bit. Businesses are closed, schools are closed, and everyone is being asked to self-quarantine in an effort to slow the spread of the deadly virus. Of course, people can still communicate with the outside world in any number of ways while cooped up in their homes, but communicating and having shared experiences aren’t the same thing.
