FDA approves rapid coronavirus test that gives results in 45 minutes

%name FDA approves rapid coronavirus test that gives results in 45 minutes by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • It goes without saying that coronavirus testing is one of the key weapons for fighting the COVID-19 outbreak, and the FDA just approved a quick test that delivers results in just 45-minutes.
  • Reduced waiting times for a diagnosis combined with increasing the number of available tests in hot zones could curb the number of infections significantly.
  • Cepheid’s fast COVID-19 tests that deliver a diagnosis in 45 minutes will be available to hospitals in the US this week, as well as in other countries.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Most nations around the world battling the SARS-CoV-2 virus that causes the new COVID-19 disease have been caught off guard by the pandemic, failing to prepare accordingly for imminent local outbreaks after witnessing what happened in China. Most of them are still behind when it comes to testing, with South Korea’s extensive testing methods standing out from the crowd. While social distancing measures and improved personal hygiene can reduce the risk of spreading the novel coronavirus, comprehensive screening is required to understand exactly how bad the situation is, and to catch COVID-19 cases as early as possible. The virus is highly contagious, and because infected individuals can go up to 14 days before developing symptoms, you might not know you’ve been infected until it’s too late.

Governments have been ramping up testing procedures, and this doesn’t include just the purchase or manufacturing of more COVID-19 test kits, but also the development of faster tests that can deliver results in a matter of minutes rather than hours. Those rapid tests can be critical for quickly mapping out the spread of the disease in hot zones, and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has just taken a massive step by approving new tests that can deliver a COVID-19 diagnosis in only 45 minutes.

Coronavirus scams are on the rise as panic over the virus spreads

%name Coronavirus scams are on the rise as panic over the virus spreads by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Scam artists are taking advantage of the coronavirus panic to steal money from unsuspecting users.
  • Some scams involve robocalls which promise to send users home testing kits for a small fee. Keep in mind that home testing kits for the coronavirus do not exist at this point.
  • There have also been reports of scammers setting up fake online stores and fake charities.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

In a sad but perhaps unsurprising development, scammers are using the panic surrounding the coronavirus to prey upon unsuspecting victims. The problem began a few short weeks ago when fraudsters began initiating robocalls informing people that they can gain access to coronavirus testing kits if they’re willing to pay for it. Recall, home testing kits for the coronavirus simply don’t exist at this time.

Additionally, there have been reports of similar schemes wherein scammers promise individuals fake cures, non-functional respiratory masks, and lucrative work-from-home opportunities, all in an effort to swindle people out of money at the very point in time when they likely need it the most.

Surprise sale: AirPods 2 fall to Amazon’s lowest price, AirPods Pro back in stock

%name Surprise sale: AirPods 2 fall to Amazon’s lowest price, AirPods Pro back in stock by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • In a surprising turn of events, Amazon on Monday slashes Apple’s wildly popular AirPods 2 wireless earphones to the all-time lowest price that first appeared last year during Black Friday.
  • That means you can get a pair for just $129 instead of $159, and Amazon is still shipping new orders out immediately despite its new stance on nonessential products.
  • AirPods 2 with wireless charging are $30 off as well, and Apple’s AirPods Pro are somehow back in stock right now.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Well, bargain hunters… this is a surprising turn of events that we definitely didn’t see coming. Amazon announced last week that it would stop restocking nonessential items and focus mainly on essentials like medical supplies in light of the novel coronavirus outbreak that’s sweeping across the United States and much of the rest of the world. That’s certainly an understandable move, and Amazon said it would last at least a few weeks into April. It would appear as though Apple earphones have been deemed essential though, because Amazon just restocked all three different models and slashed the entry-level AirPods back down to their all-time lowest price from Black Friday last year.

Head over to Amazon right now and you’ll find AirPods 2 on sale for just $129, a big $30 discount from the $159 you’ll pay for them if you order a pair from Apple. This is the latest version of Apple’s popular true wireless earbuds and you won’t find a better deal anywhere. In fact, you won’t even find the same deal anywhere else, since other retailers currently offering them at a discount are charging either $139 or $149.

If you want to add wireless charging into the mix, you’ll find that Apple’s AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case are also on sale right now at Amazon, and you can save the same $30 on that pair. That means instead of paying $199 like you would at Apple, you’ll only have to cough up $169.

Apple AirPods with Wireless Charging Case: $169.00

And finally, in the most surprising move we’ve seen today, Amazon just restocked AirPods Pro and they’re available to ship immediately, just like the two different kinds of AirPods 2 earphones mentioned above. AirPods Pro add in active noise cancellation and silicone ear tips, of course, and they were sold out on Amazon as recently as yesterday. We highly doubt they’ll be available for very long though, so definitely grab a pair now before it’s too late.

Apple AirPods Pro: $249.00

Spring breakers who refused to stop partying now have coronavirus

%name Spring breakers who refused to stop partying now have coronavirus by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Spring breakers in Florida who ignored advice from health experts and government officials took to party hotspots in the midst of a pandemic.
  • Now, many of those same college students are testing positive for the novel coronavirus, and nobody knows exactly how far it has spread.
  • Individuals who test positive for COVID-19 must remain in quarantine for an extended period of time, and anyone they came into contact with is now at a huge risk of having been infected as well.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

All around the globe, health experts are urging citizens to stay home when possible and keep a distance from others if you absolutely have to leave your homes. It’s a response to the coronavirus pandemic sweeping across the planet, and it might be the only way for us to slow the spread of COVID-19 and give our healthcare systems a fighting chance to save lives.

Despite the obviousness of this basic truth, some are ignoring orders from government officials, and nowhere was that more clear over the past week than on Florida beaches. Spring breakers were determined to party, virus or no virus, and their misplaced sense of invincibility is already catching up with them. Now, a flood of new cases of coronavirus infection is being reported among students who just couldn’t heed some basic advice.

Amazon’s one-day sale on memory foam mattress toppers is like a dream

%name Amazon’s one day sale on memory foam mattress toppers is like a dream by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • People who have trouble falling asleep or staying asleep at night often think that sleeping pills are the answer, but the solution could be as simple as updating the bed you sleep on.
  • New mattresses are expensive and unwieldy, which is why it’s always a better idea to first try to fix the mattress you have now.
  • A great way to do that is by getting a high-quality memory foam mattress topper, and Amazon is running a one-day mattress topper deal with some of the lowest prices we’ve ever seen.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Whether or not you have trouble sleeping at night, there’s a good chance that you could be sleeping much better if you do something about the ratty old mattress you’re using. Like anything else, a mattress has a finite lifespan and if you keep using it after it’s too worn out, you’re just asking for trouble. Beyond just leading to difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, a worn-out mattress can also cause back or neck pain, or it can make you restless while you sleep which means you’ll have less energy the next day.

With everything going on right now, many of us are tightening our purse strings so it’s definitely not the right time to buy a new mattress. Apart from the cost, it’s also a pain to replace your mattress and dispose of the old one. Instead, there’s another option you should consider that’s much less expensive and yet it can be just as effective. Check out Amazon’s one-day sale on LUCID 2-Inch 5-Zone Lavender Memory Foam Mattress Toppers.

You’ll find rock-bottom prices on all sizes for one day only on Monday, and prices start at just $26.99. These fantastic mattress toppers use the highest-quality foam along with a 5-zone design that gives you just the right amount of support and comfort for each different part of your body. And don’t worry about sweating or heat buildup, because this is the most breathable memory foam you’ll ever come across.

Amazon’s big sale on LUCID mattress toppers is only available until the end of the day on Monday, so hurry or you’ll miss out.

LUCID 2 Inch 5 Zone Lavender Memory Foam Mattress Topper – Queen: $26.99 – $57.99

  • Lavender essential oils are infused into this 5-zoned topper to create a naturally calming and relaxing atmosphere to enhance your sleep experience.
  • Memory foam is known for its unique ability to distribute weight evenly and conform to the curves of the body. This helps to eliminate pressure points at the shoulders, hips, knees, and feet.

An exclusive new iPhone 12 Pro Max camera feature just leaked

%name An exclusive new iPhone 12 Pro Max camera feature just leaked by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Apple’s high-end iPhone 12 model with a 6.7-inch display will feature sensor-shift image stabilization, according to a new research note from TF Industries analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
  • Sensor-shift technology could bring stabilization to the Ultra Wide lens, which it currently lacks on the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max.
  • iPhone 14 could be the first iPhone to feature a periscope lens, with up to 10x optical zoom.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

In spite of the pandemic that has taken over all our lives, some things never change, such as the frequency of iPhone leaks. Over the past several weeks, we’ve heard countless rumors about the all-but-confirmed iPhone 9 and iPhone 9 Plus, as well as the iPhone 12 set to debut this fall. Many of those rumors have revolved around release dates, as the COVID-19 outbreak forced many factories to shut down, but as China seems to have gotten a handle on the spread of the virus, many of those factories have reopened and work has started back up.

Delayed or not, we’re much more interested in how Apple plans to upgrade the iPhone for 2020, and one of the key upgrades may have just been revealed. MacRumors obtained a research note from TF Securities on Monday in which analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that Apple’s high-end 6.7-inch iPhone 12 will have sensor-shift image stabilization. This is one of several camera improvements expected to come to Apple’s flagship phone this year.

CDC launches ‘Coronavirus Self-Checker’ bot to analyze your symptoms

%name CDC launches ‘Coronavirus Self Checker’ bot to analyze your symptoms by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The CDC’s Coronavirus Self-Checker bot is now live.
  • The bot, which was built with the help of Microsoft, analyzes your symptoms and recommends further measures. If your symptoms are severe or if you have underlying health conditions, the system will recommend more urgent care than if you are healthy overall and have mild symptoms.
  • The CDC hopes the bot can ease the burden on healthcare systems across the country that are dealing with mild cases when those individuals should be healing up at home.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention just launched a new publicly available bot capable of analyzing symptoms and recommending the best course of action. The bot’s name is Clara, and the CDC calls it a “Coronavirus Self-Checker.”

The bot, which was made as part of a partnership between the CDC and Microsoft, uses Microsoft’s Azure Healthcare Bot framework. It’s essentially a digital flow chart, with responses leading to new questions and eventually a recommendation on how an individual should proceed. At a time when getting ahold of a doctor is challenging, even over the phone, it could help to ease fears and manage the public’s flood of questions about how they’re feeling.

17 new Amazon deals on popular Anker products and accessories just launched

%name 17 new Amazon deals on popular Anker products and accessories just launched by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Anker has been one of Amazon’s most popular consumer electronics accessory brands for years because it offers the best quality and features at a fraction of what larger brands charge.
  • Despite offering great prices in general, Anker also typically offers a handful of deals each week that provide even deeper discounts on already-affordable products and accessories.
  • This week, Anker has outdone itself by offering a whopping 17 different deals on some of its best-selling devices, but all the new discounts are only available for a limited time.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The novel coronavirus outbreak in the United States and around the world is causing Amazon to refocus its efforts in the coming weeks. The company said that it would no longer restock items that are deemed nonessential and that it would delay shipments on many nonessential products that are already in stock. Amazon has done a shockingly bad job of informing customers which products actually are shipping right away, so many people are left using trial and error to figure out what they can and can’t buy. Of course, another option is to just follow the BGR Deals team, because we’ll continue to show you all the best deals you can get your hands on without having to wait.

This week, Amazon has launched a bunch of terrific new deals on some of the most popular products and accessories that Anker makes. Groceries and cleaning supplies are important, of course, but we also still need other things while we’re all in self-quarantine trying to slow the spread of the new coronavirus that causes COVID-19.

Beginning with all of the popular Anker chargers and charging accessories on sale right now, you’ll find the best-selling Anker PowerPort 6 60W 6 Port USB Charging Station on sale for $21.99 in black or $25.49 in white. • The World Health Organization is spearheading a massive COVID-19 drug trial that will include thousands of patients in participating countries.
  • The Solidarity megatrial will focus on four distinct therapies that include drugs that are already approved for other ailments, but have shown promise in treating some COVID-19 cases.

Comparatively, developing a brand new drug specifically for the COVID-19 illness might take years, which is why WHO and participating countries are fast-tracking this worldwide trial of drugs that are already widely available.
