Manufacturing, travel, restaurants, and entertainment are just a few industries that will take massive hits in the near future due to the coronavirus pandemic. Some of them can adapt to weather the storm. Restaurants can deliver food, and entertainment can move online. To that point, Universal announced earlier this week that several of its 2020 theatrical releases will be available online on the day they hit theaters, which is an interesting development for the movie business.

Most companies have delayed the premieres of their upcoming releases, and some theater chains have already closed, which means other films scheduled to launch during this period will have to find somewhere new to launch. Disney is apparently ready to do a bit of both, and it’ll be interesting to see what it means for one of its biggest films of the year, Marvel’s Black Widow, which was originally scheduled to launch on May 1st.

Google Maps now shows coronavirus warnings on Android and iPhone

%name Google Maps now shows coronavirus warnings on Android and iPhone by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Google Maps has now begun to display a coronavirus alert on Android, iPhone, and the web.
  • The message reminds people to call their doctors before visiting a medical facility and points to the CDC’s official help page for the novel coronavirus.
  • The virus is highly contagious, and the CDC says that people who think they have the disease shouldn’t go to a hospital without first calling a doctor or 911 for instructions.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Google is doing several things to help during the novel coronavirus pandemic. The company promised to develop a version of the nationwide COVID-19 website that Trump bragged about a week ago, although the site might have a more limited scope than initially advertised. The company has also placed a COVID-19 news panel on the homepage of YouTube to provide quick access to authoritative information about coronavirus developments, and Google reduced video streaming quality to SD in Europe, the epicenter of the pandemic right now. It’s therefore not surprising to see Google Maps used to raise awareness about the coronavirus, as Google is now displaying COVID-19 warnings inside the Android and iPhone versions of the app.

$50 Philips Hue color bulbs are under $38 at Amazon

%name $50 Philips Hue color bulbs are under $38 at Amazon by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Philips Hue makes the most popular smart lighting solutions in the world, and experts tend to agree that they’re also a cut above the competition.
  • Unfortunately, the best products in any category often come with steep price tags and that is definitely the case with Philips Hue’s smart light bulbs — they generally cost two or even three times a much as rival products from smaller brands.
  • Most people try to wait for sales before stocking up on new Philips Hue lights, and it just so happens that the company’s most popular smart LED light bulb ever is on sale right now at one of the lowest prices we’ve seen in a year.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Ask a thousand different Philips Hue users if they love their smart lighting set and we would wager that nearly every single one of them would say yes. Ask those same thousand Philips Hue users if they think the company’s various smart LED lights and lamps are way too expensive, and every single one of them will definitely nod in agreement. But it’s like the old saying goes: you get what you pay for. And if you want the best smart LED lights in the business, you had better be prepared to pay.

Now, the good news for anyone looking to expand an existing Philips Hue setup or to start a brand new setup in your home is that Philips Hue lights do tend to go on sale from time to time. The discounts used to be far more frequent, of course — Philips Hue didn’t even offer any deals for Black Friday last year — but sales still do pop up from time to time. Some Philips Hue deals are better than others, and it just so happens that one of the best deals we’ve seen in about a year just popped up on Amazon.

Philips Hue White and Color Ambiance 2-Pack A19 LED Smart Bulb, Bluetooth & Zigbee compatible (…: $75.40 ($37.70 each)

Head over to Amazon right now and pick up a 2-pack of these popular multicolor bulbs, and you’ll only pay $75.40 total. That’s just $37.70 per bulb and it’s one of the best prices we’ve seen. Supercomputer finds 77 drugs that could halt coronavirus spread

%name Supercomputer finds 77 drugs that could halt coronavirus spread by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The ultra-powerful IBM supercomputer Summit has identified 77 compounds that could help prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus.
  • These compounds could be used to develop treatments and vaccines that would halt the spread of the virus and prevent further infections.
  • With dozens of possible options, each of these drugs will have to be tested to see how effective they are in a real-world scenario.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Scientists have enlisted the help of a supercomputer to fight back against the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus. Researchers from the Oak Ridge National Laboratory just published the results of a project in which they tasked the massive IBM supercomputer known as Summit with finding the most effective existing drugs that could combat COVID-19.

The paper, which was published in the journal ChemRxiv, focuses on the method the virus uses to bind to cells. Like other viruses, the novel coronavirus uses a spike protein to inject cells. Using Summit with an algorithm to investigate which drugs could bind to the protein and prevent the virus from doing its duty, the researchers now have a list of 77 drugs that show promise.

  • The spread of the novel coronavirus is starting to pick up the pace here in the United States, and things are going to get a whole lot worse before they start to get any better.
  • That means we’re going to be spending a lot of time indoors for the next few weeks at the very least, and potentially for even longer than that since it took so long for many people to start taking COVID-19 seriously.
  • People are tightening their purse strings across the country but we still need things to occupy us while we’re cooped up at home, so you should definitely check out three crazy deals that Amazon is running right now on headphones and a Bluetooth speaker.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

If you’re like the vast majority of Americans in areas where the novel coronavirus pandemic is spreading rapidly, you’re worried about a few important things right now. The top priority is obviously self-quarantining and doing everything you can to slow the spread of the virus because that is the only way we can prevent overcrowding in hospitals. Some say it’s already too late for that, but every person who takes this pandemic seriously and does his or her part to slow the spread of the virus is potentially saving lives.

On a more personal level, millions upon millions of Americans are being impacted financially by the COVID-19 outbreak. Businesses are being forced to close their doors and not everyone is able to work from home, of course. Even still, we’ll all be spending plenty of time at home over the coming weeks and months, and no one wants to sit there staring at the walls the entire time.

When you’ve run out of things to watch on TV, you’ll undoubtedly want to turn to music and that’s why Amazon is running three killer deals that can give your listening experience a big boost for way less money than you would expect to pay for top-rated personal audio products.

First up, we have the shockingly good TaoTronics TTBH047 Active Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones. They offer great sound quality, impressive noise cancelling tech, up to 24 hours of battery life, and a low retail price of $50. Use the coupon code L5G769UL at checkout and you can pick up a pair for just $24.99.

TaoTronics Active Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones, Durable Over Ear Headphones with Soft…: $24.99 (use code L5G769UL)

If you would prefer in-ear headphones as opposed to over-ear, the Mpow M5 True Wireless Noise Cancelling Earbuds are on sale for just $27.49 with the coupon code 9S32KV2I and a second on-site clippable coupon. These popular cord-free earbuds typically sell for $55 and they’re worth every penny, offering CVC 8.0 noise cancellation, impressive audio quality, and battery life of up to 42 hours with the included charging case.

Wireless Earbuds, Mpow Bluetooth Earbuds, aptX Tech Stereo Bass Sound 42H Playtime / IPX7 Sweat…: $27.49 (use code 9S32KV2I)

Finally, those of you who want to share the love should definitely check out the Vtin SoundHot Q1 Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker, which offers surprisingly good sound quality for such a tiny device. Just check out the 1,500+ 5-star ratings on Amazon if you don’t believe us. This tiny speaker typically costs $24, but an on-site coupon and the promo code VNBH221A slashes that price all the way down to just $10.19.

New study finally reveals how long coronavirus survives on surfaces and in the air

%name New study finally reveals how long coronavirus survives on surfaces and in the air by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Researches have looked at how long the novel coronavirus can survive on surfaces and in the air to better understand how to prevent infections.
  • The virus that causes the COVID-19 disease can survive for up to three hours in the air, and up to three days on certain surfaces.
  • The findings further support the idea that there are two simple things anyone can do to prevent infections: Social distancing and thorough hand-washing.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

You’ve been hearing this advice everywhere for months now, and I’m about to repeat the same thing: wash your hands often, especially when you return back home — and be sure to use sanitizer if available while you’re out and about. Also, don’t EVER touch your face until you’ve washed your hands. It can be annoying when you have to make a conscious effort not to put your hands anywhere near your face, but it’s all for your own good.

The reason we’ve heard these things since the novel coronavirus was discovered in China is pretty simple. The SARS-CoV-2 virus can survive outside of the body. It’s spread via tiny droplets when someone coughs or sneezes, droplets that then land on surfaces around the infected person. Touching those surfaces is enough to get it on your hands. And from there, it might be just a matter of time until it reaches your mouth or eyes.

Researchers have looked at the COVID-19 virus’s ability to survive on different surfaces and in the air, and the conclusions aren’t great. The virus can live from hours to days outside of the body, and that’s why washing your hands and disinfecting surfaces is crucial for beating this illness. Also, because it can live up to three hours in the air, you should avoid being in close proximity to people until the spread of this deadly virus is under control.

It’s not too late to get the wireless camera that lets your phone see anywhere for $32

%name It’s not too late to get the wireless camera that lets your phone see anywhere for $32 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Amazon ran a big sale last week on the most popular wireless borescope inspection camera that Depstech makes, but this week an even better version is on sale.
  • It’s called the Depstech NKJ-66 and it has a similar design, but it is 33-feet long instead of 11.5 feet. As a result, this model can reach three times further for almost the same price.
  • The rest of the features are the same, and the NKJ-66 is on sale right now at its lowest price — but the sale is ending soon so it’s your last chace to take advantage.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We always tell you Depstech’s wildly popular wireless borescope cameras go on sale because our readers love them so much. In fact, these little gadgets are easily some of the most popular smartphone accessories the BGR Deals team covers. Last week, a deal we told you about dropped the price of the best-selling WF010 model with an 11-foot long camera tube to $29, but right now there’s a deal on a model that’s three times longer and it only costs $3 more. It’s called the Depstech NKJ-66 wireless borescope inspection camera, and it’s on sale right now for just $31.99 when you clip the 25% coupon that Amazon has on the product page.

If you’re not aware of how these awesome little devices work, prepare to wonder where they’ve been all your life. A tiny box at the base of the camera houses a battery along with a circuit board and a Wi-Fi radio so the device can connect wirelessly to your smartphone. The fun part is the camera that sits at the end of a long semi-rigid tube, so you can snake it inside practically anything and wirelessly send a clear image back to your phone. The accompanying app supports recording video and snapping still photos, plus you can use attachments that come with it like a hook for picking up lost jewelry or a mirror so you can see around corners. This model is 33 feet long instead of 11.5 feet like the WF010, and it’s on sale at an all-time low of just $31.99.

Here are the bullet points from Amazon’s product page:

  • Better Chip & Battery: 30 fps rate vibrates the captured images and recorded video, which demonstrates fluent photo-taking and video-recording processes and enables any user to catch the unknown corner timely, for the sake of every faster, and more efficient and more intellectual chip embedded in Depstech endoscope.
  • Clear& True in Water: Super Hi-Vision 2MP HD camera allows you to capture images or record videos. The camera probe is IP67 waterproof which is perfect for underwater inspection, but no deeper than 3.3FT.
  • Neither Hard Nor Soft: Semi-rigid cable can bend and hold its shape to access a wide variety of confined places to meet with different using needs. Internal iron wire supports the flexibility of the line. Proper hardness and softness are the keys to the versatility of the product.
  • Multiple Uses: Useful Accessories Magnet can be used to get objects in hard-to-reach places, such as coins under the sofa, keys dropped in the drainpipe; Hook can be used to pick up rings or keys under the sewer pipe or else in which you’re unable to get it by your hands; The side view mirror will be a good tool for viewing different angles of the place you’re inspected. Compared with other similar products, it is built-in 2200mAh high capacity lithium battery with battery life of up to 4-5 hours.

Scary research says coronavirus is even more contagious than we thought

%name Scary research says coronavirus is even more contagious than we thought by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Researchers in the Netherlands discovered that COVID-19 patients who exhibit mild symptoms can be far more contagious than we thought.
  • Even people who don’t have any symptoms can infect others from the first sneeze or cough.
  • The research further underscores the need to practice social distancing and increase the amount of testing in all countries affected by the disease.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

With each day that goes by, researchers are making more progress while studying the novel coronavirus outbreak. Some teams have been able to prove beyond any doubt that the COVID-19 virus wasn’t engineered in a lab as a bioweapon, which is critical information for fighting the disease as well as the conspiracy theories floating around. Others have figured out how the immune system responds to the infection in mild-to-moderate cases, but no one can explain why the body fails to kill off the infection in severe cases. Scientists around the world are also working on vaccines and developing treatments based on drugs that are normally used to treat other ailments. Researchers from the Netherlands have analyzed the way the pathogen is transmitted from human to human, concluding that the virus is highly contagious even in cases where patients only experience minor symptoms.

  • Amazon is running a terrific sale right now on the Fire TV Stick that slashes it to just $22.99, which is the lowest price we’ve ever seen outside of Prime Day and Black Friday.
  • The only problem with the deal is that it’s only available to people who subscribe to Amazon Prime, so not everyone can take advantage.
  • Luckily, there’s a separate deal on the even more capable Fire TV Stick 4K.

We’re all going to be spending a whole lot of time at home in the coming weeks and months, and there are a few things we definitely need in order to keep from going crazy. Definitely pick up a Fire HD 8 Tablet while it’s on sale for just $49.99 or a 10.2-inch Apple iPad on sale, or at least get yourself a Kindle or a waterproof Kindle Paperwhite, which are 20% off if you buy one of each or two of either. And when it comes time to relax and watch TV, you’re definitely going to want a good streaming media player.

Amazon surprised us all earlier this week when it slashed the price of the Fire TV Stick to just $22.99. Normally priced at $40, the only time Amazon’s best-selling streaming media player has ever cost less was during Prime Day and Black Friday last year. Even then, the Fire TV Stick was only $3 less than it is right now, so you know it’s a killer deal. But there’s only one problem: you can only score a Fire TV Stick for $22.99 if you’re an Amazon Prime subscriber. For everyone else, it’s still full price.

That’s definitely a bummer for anyone who doesn’t want to pay $120 a year for Prime, or for those of you who simply can’t afford it. There is a silver lining though because another deal just popped up on Amazon.

The Fire TV Stick 4K is just like the entry-level Fire TV Stick but with two main upgrades. First, it supports 4K resolution as is apparent based on the gadget’s name. And second, it supports HDR content with vivid colors like you’ve never seen before. It normally costs $50 and it does go on sale a few times each year, but typically around big sales events like Black Friday and Prime Day. You can also save by picking up a Certified Refurbished model instead of buying it new, but they’re rarely in stock on Amazon… until now!

Certified Refurbished Fire TV Stick 4K streaming media players are in stock right now and just waiting to be bought. They sell for $44.99 and they’re guaranteed by Amazon to look and function like new. If you buy one and there’s something you don’t like about it, you can just return it for a full refund and you’ve lost nothing. There’s no way these will be in stock for much longer though, so definitely get one while you still can.
