Xbox Series X is beating PS5 in a key way that has nothing to do with specs

  • Both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will feature backwards compatibility in some form or fashion.
  • Microsoft has already promised that thousands of Xbox One, Xbox 360, and original Xbox titles will run on the Xbox Series X, but Sony has only mentioned most of the 100 most-played PS4 games for the PS5.
  • If the PS5 can’t match the Xbox Series X’s Smart Delivery feature, Sony might be in trouble.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

I walked away from the PlayStation 5 deep dive on Wednesday with more questions than answers. Why is Sony still not ready to show us what the console actually looks like? Why did Sony repurpose its Game Developers Conference talk rather than prepare something new for an audience made up of hundreds of thousands of consumers? Why have we not seen any games running on the PS5 yet, or even a technical demo of the console in action?

The simple answer to virtually all of these questions is as follows: Sony isn’t ready yet. That’s not to say that the final design of the console is still in flux, or that the PS5 is incapable of playing games in its current state, but Sony’s not ready to pull back the curtain yet. Not entirely, anyway. That might sound obvious, but it’s important context for the point of this piece, that point being that Sony is giving up on making backwards compatibility a priority.

5 Bose wireless speaker deals to help pass the time in quarantine

%name 5 Bose wireless speaker deals to help pass the time in quarantine by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • We’re all going to be cooped up inside for at least the next few weeks due to the novel coronavirus outbreak spreading across the United States.
  • Some experts believe “shelter in place” orders will extend even longer, potentially lasting until sometime in mid or late April in order to prevent a second wave of COVID-19 infections.
  • Amazon knows we’re all going to be stuck inside for a while, so it’s offering several fantastic deals on best-selling Bose wireless speakers in an effort to help pass the time.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We have now surpassed 250,000 confirmed COVID-19 cases globally and cases in the United States are about to shoot past 15,000. While things finally appear to be winding down in China where the novel coronavirus was first discovered, COVID-19 is only just beginning to spread here in the US. The smartest thing we can do now is to be responsible and self-quarantine because every single time we encounter people while out and about is another chance for the virus to pass from person to person. It takes as long as 14 days for symptoms to present themselves, but the virus can be passed along at any time during those two weeks. Stay inside as much as you possibly can, and when you do have to go out, practice social distancing and stay as far away from other people as you can. Remember, the novel coronavirus can live up to several hours in the air and up to three or four days on some surfaces. The bottom line is that you can’t be too cautious.

Since we’re all going to be cooped up indoors for at least the next few weeks, there are certain things we’re going to need in order to keep ourselves from going stir crazy. There will also inevitably be times when family members get on each other’s nerves, but there’s a good way to help prevent that from happening: Play some music!

Google Stadia discounted for the first time as ‘Doom Eternal’ arrives

%name Google Stadia discounted for the first time as ‘Doom Eternal’ arrives by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Stadia Premiere Edition has been discounted for the first time since it launched in November, down from $129 to $99 for one day only to celebrate the launch of Doom Eternal.
  • The $99 Stadia Premiere Edition package comes with a Stadia Controller, a Google Chromecast Ultra, and 3 months of Stadia Pro.
  • Google’s Stadia has seen several major updates in recent weeks, including support for new Samsung, ASUS, and Razer phones, as well as 4K streaming on the web.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Google Stadia didn’t exactly come out swinging when it first launched last November. The cloud gaming service was lacking in several areas, most notably its library, as there were only a handful of games available. And then there were the technical issues, the lack of communication from Google, and its relatively high price. Needless to say, the earliest reviews were not positive, and Google has been doing its best to course-correct ever since.

Other than the limited library, one of the complaints that many people had when Stadia was announced was the cost of entry. In order to get everything that you need to play games on Stadia, you need to buy a Stadia Premiere Edition package, which includes a Stadia Controller, a Google Chromecast Ultra, and 3 months of Stadia Pro. Typically, this package costs $129, but for one day only, you can get a Premiere Edition for $99.

Big iPhone 12 leak includes the best news we’ve heard so far

%name Big iPhone 12 leak includes the best news we’ve heard so far by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Apple’s iPhone 12 release may not be delayed by the coronavirus according to a new report from Bloomberg, and that’s probably the best possible news we’ve could’ve heard.
  • If all goes according to plan, iPhone 12 mass production will commence in May.
  • The biggest selling points on Apple’s new iPhone models will be a big redesign and support for 5G.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

With the coronavirus turning the entire world upside down, there have been a handful of reports claiming that Apple’s iPhone 12 — which is poised to be the first iPhone with support for 5G — will be a bit delayed. To this point, analyst Jon Prosser took to Twitter yesterday and said that the iPhone 12 release might be pushed back as far as November.

In light of that, a more optimistic report from Bloomberg claims that Apple’s iPhone 12 lineup is still on schedule and, in a best-case scenario, may not be delayed given that mass production isn’t even slated to begin until May. In other words, if the countries that house Apple’s supply chain can get a handle on the coronavirus over the next 4-6 weeks, there’s a chance iPhone 12 production may not skip a beat and may arrive in stores this coming September.

Fire TV Stick is only $23 today at Amazon – but there’s a catch

%name Fire TV Stick is only $23 today at Amazon – but there’s a catch by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Amazon’s beloved Fire TV Stick is one of the company’s best-selling products of all time — the gadget’s exact position on the list is unclear since Amazon doesn’t report sales, but the company has repeatedly said that the Fire TV Stick and Echo Dot are its most popular products.
  • It’s pretty easy to see why the tiny streaming media player is so popular: It gives users access to every conceivable streaming service.
  • The Fire TV Stick is already a tremendous value at $40, but right now it’s on sale at its lowest price of 2020 so far, just $22.99.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Amazon’s Fire TV Stick is one of the most popular streaming media players in the world, and it’s also one of Amazon’s two best-selling devices of all time. The other one is the Echo Dot, though it’s unclear which is number 1 and which is number 2 since Amazon doesn’t reveal sales figures when it reports its quarterly earnings. With a retail price of just $40, the Fire TV Stick is one of the least expensive ways out there to access all your favorite streaming services — and we do mean “all,” since every conceivable streaming platform offers a Fire TV app.

The other reason the Fire TV Stick is always a top seller is that it goes on sale at least a handful of times each year. Amazon reserves the biggest Fire TV Stick discounts for events like Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Week, and it’s usually priced at $20. Other sales throughout the year almost always see the device drop to either $25 or $30.

Amazon knows that we’re all cooped up in our homes right now, so the retailer is offering a special sale today with the lowest price we’ve ever seen outside of Prime Day and holiday sales. Hurry and you can pick up a new Fire TV Stick for just $22.99 instead of $40. That’s a fantastic deal, but there is a small catch: you have to be a Prime member to get that price. If you don’t subscribe to Amazon Prime, you can either pay full price or sign up for a free 30-day trial.

Fire TV Stick streaming media player with Alexa built in, includes Alexa Voice Remote, HD, easy…: $22.99

The Fire TV Stick isn’t the only Amazon device that got a special discount just for Prime members. In fact, there are seven more! The $120 Fire TV Cube which is a Fire TV Stick 4K combined with an Echo Dot with hands-free Alexa is on sale at an all-time low of $89.99, and the Fire TV Recast OTA DVR gets a big $90 discount on both models, making the 500GB version $139.99 instead of $230 and the 1TB model $189.99 instead of $280. Other Prime-exclusive deals include the $250 Ring Video Doorbell Pro for $189, the $200 Ring Spotlight Cam for $159, the Ring Alarm 5-Piece Kit for $149 instead of $200, and the $200 Ring Peephole Cam for $159.

Amazon’s running out of deals – get these 10 deep discounts while you can

%name Amazon’s running out of deals – get these 10 deep discounts while you can by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Amazon recently announced that due to the novel coronavirus epidemic, it will stop restocking and shipping nonessential products until early April in order to make as much room as possible in its warehouses for medical supplies and other essentials.
  • The retailer will continue to sell off remaining inventory, but it appears as though stock of popular items is already starting to dwindle.
  • New deals are starting to become particularly unimpressive, but there are still some deep discounts on best-selling items that shoppers can take advantage of before they sell out.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

In light of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, Amazon announced a massive change to its typical plans earlier this week. The online retail giant said that it would soon stop restocking and shipping nonessential products in order to free up as much capacity as possible for essentials like medical supplies, cleaners, and disinfectants. It’s unclear exactly when nonessential shipments will cease, but once they do, they won’t start back up again until April 5th. That’s only two weeks away, but it’ll be a long two weeks if there are things you need that you can’t get your hands on without leaving the house. Everyone is being advised to stay indoors and self-quarantine as much as possible so that we might at least slow the rate of new COVID-19 infections.

While we don’t know exactly when shipments will stop, it seems quite apparent that it’s going to happen soon. What makes us say that? Well, Amazon offers a bunch of new “Gold Box” deals each day that offer especially deep discounts on popular products. These are typically some of the best and most exciting deals on Amazon’s site each day… but on Friday there’s only one Gold Box deal and it’s on shampoo. Yeah, that’s not terribly exciting, and it’s likely a sign that the retailer is getting ready to make that shift.

With all that in mind, we wanted to give our readers what could potentially be your last chance to save big on some of Amazon’s most popular products until the company starts up nonessential shipments again in early April. First, we’ll start with five fantastic deals that are only available to Prime members — and if you’re not a Prime member, you can score these deals by signing up for a free 30-day trial of Amazon Prime. You’ll probably want to do that anyway so you can stock up on all the essentials Amazon will be shipping in the coming weeks.

Beginning with the most popular deal we covered this week, the $40 Fire TV Stick is on sale for just $22.99 for Prime subscribers. That’s within $3 of its lowest price ever, and it’s the lowest price we have ever seen outside of Black Friday and Prime Day.

Fire TV Stick streaming media player with Alexa built in, includes Alexa Voice Remote, HD, easy…: $22.99

If you want to step things up a bit, pick up the $120 Fire TV Cube instead at its lowest price ever, just $89.99. This awesome device is basically a Fire TV Stick 4K combined with an Echo Dot, so you can stream all your favorite movies and shows — plus you get hands-free Alexa.

Fire TV Cube, hands-free with Alexa built in, 4K Ultra HD, streaming media player, released 201…: $89.99

The last three Prime-exclusive deals we’ll tell you about are on some of Amazon-owned Ring’s hottest products. The $250 Ring Video Doorbell Pro is down to just $189 for Prime subscribers, the $200 Ring Spotlight Cam is $159, and the Ring Alarm 5-Piece Kit is on sale for $149 instead of $200.

There are a few more killer Prime-only deals available today and you can check them all out in our earlier coverage. Before you do that, however, we need to cover five more deals that are available to everyone and we’re going to start with a killer Instant Pot sale that slashes prices on three different best-selling devices.

The Instant Pot Duo 60 retails for $100 and it’s the company’s top-selling model of all time — right now, it’s on sale for just $79. Then, if you already have that model or any 6-quart Instant Pot, you can add the $140 Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid for just $79.95, an all-time low. Finally, there’s a killer deal on an Instant Pot product you probably didn’t even know about; the $240 Instant Vortex Plus 7-in-1 Air Fryer, Toaster Oven, and Rotisserie Oven is down to just $107.50 today.

Instant Pot Duo 7-in-1 Electric Pressure Cooker, Slow Cooker, Rice Cooker, Steamer, Saute, Yogu…: $79.00

Instant Pot Air Fryer Lid with Roast, Bake, Broil, Reheat & Dehydrate: $79.95

Instant Vortex Plus 7-in-1 Air Fryer, Toaster Oven, and Rotisserie Oven, 10 Quart, 7 Programs,…: $107.50

Next up, we have a killer deal for anyone who wants to be sure to keep their home clean while they’re cooped up inside for the next few weeks. The Dyson-killing Bissell ICONpet Cordless Stick Vacuum that normally sells for $350 is on sale right now for just $199.

BISSELL ICONpet Cordless with Tangle Free Brushroll, SmartSeal Filtration, Lightweight Stick Ha…: $199.00

The earlier Fire TV Stick deal we told you about earlier is only available to Prime subscribers, but there’s another deal that anyone can take advantage of. Hurry, UV-C smartphone sanitizers are somehow back in stock on Amazon

%name Hurry, UV C smartphone sanitizers are somehow back in stock on Amazon by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The COVID-10 coronavirus pandemic is picking up pace at an alarming clip in the United States, which doesn’t come as much of a surprise considering how much the White House tried to downplay it in the early days of the novel coronavirus’s arrival in the US.
  • People are being advised to stay at home unless it’s absolutely necessary to leave the house, and every venture into a public space presents new risks of becoming infected.
  • Anytime you leave the house, there are certain precautions you need to take, and using a UV-C smartphone sanitizer is an added measure that can help keep you and your loved ones safe.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Every single time you leave the house and step into a public space, you’re putting yourself and your loved ones at risk. Sometimes the risk is unavoidable, like when you have to pick up food. Regardless of the reason, there are a number of things you need to do each and every time you leave the house.

First, practice social distancing. Stay as far away from other people as you possibly can while you’re out and about. You should also try not to touch any surface that other people might have touched, though it’s obviously unavoidable at times. That’s why you need to always take extra care not to touch your face, and you should wash your hands thoroughly in warm water for up to a minute as soon as you get back home, preferably before touching anything else. But there’s something else you need to keep in mind and we cannot stress this enough: If you use your smartphone at all while you’re out and about, there’s a good chance that it’s covered with germs.

Even if you remove the COVID-19 virus from the conversations, smartphones are still cesspools of germs and bacteria. Throw the novel coronavirus into the mix and cleaning your smartphone is of the utmost importance. If you somehow still have Clorox wipes or Lysol wipes at home, you can definitely use those to clean your phone. If you don’t however, you’ll have to find another good solution — and that’s where UV-C smartphone sanitizers. They’re hard to come by right now, but nowhere near as hard as Clorox wipes. In fact, there are a few different options in stock right now on Amazon.

The HoMedics UV-Clean Phone Sanitizer is one that we’ve tested and we actually use ourselves, and it was available to be shipped to your door for free as soon as next week at the time of this writing. There’s also a UV Cell Phone Sanitizer by Soeland that’s in stock right now, and if you want to go all-out you can get something like the 3B Lumin CPAP Mask and Accessory Cleaner, which is basically the same thing but it’s designed for CPAP equipment so it’s far more powerful.

You’ll find several additional options right now if you check out this UV Sanitizer page on Amazon, but you should definitely order soon because these are going to sell out fast.

What Android looked like before iPhone saved it

%name What Android looked like before iPhone saved it by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Google’s original Sooner Android prototype appeared on eBay, with someone selling a bunch of devices.
  • This Android prototype predates the iPhone and looks just like the BlackBerry devices that were sold in stores at the time.
  • Google immediately scraped the design and re-engineered Android to mimic the iPhone rather than BlackBerry, once Apple unveiled the original iPhone.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

One of the biggest battles in tech is iPhone vs. Android, with each side having raving fans ready to defend their favorite smartphone over any criticism. The truth is that it doesn’t really matter which smartphone you get these days. They’re all nearly the same, featuring various versions of “all-screen” designs, and offer fast access to the same sort of apps, games, and entertainment. And it’s all possible thanks to the increased competition between Apple and Google when it comes to the operating system, and between all smartphone vendors when it comes to hardware and design improvements. But there’s no denying that it’s the iPhone that started the smartphone revolution more than a decade ago and that Google was the first to realize what was happening and adapted Android to compete against the iPhone long before other rivals did. And the following images will show you exactly how Android phones looked like before iPhone saved them.
