  • The team behind the Folding@Home software is joining researchers to help fight the coronavirus.
  • You can participate by downloading the free software and letting it run in the background while you’re doing other things on your computer or while your computer is idling.

Although not everyone is in the same boat (at least not yet, anyway), chances are that you’re stuck at home for the foreseeable future. You might feel helpless, wondering what you can do to help other than sit on your couch and try not to become infected or infect anyone else. Well, if you have a computer at your disposal, there is a way that you can assist in the fight against the coronavirus by simply downloading a free program.

Back on February 27th, the team behind the Folding@Home project announced that it would join with researchers in an attempt to learn more about the novel coronavirus and help develop therapies that could save lives. If you’ve never heard of Folding@Home before, it is described as “a distributed computing project for disease research that simulates protein folding, computational drug design, and other types of molecular dynamics.” All you have to do to contribute is download the software, turn it on, and leave it running in the background.

  • Microsoft made another surprise Xbox Series X announcement, revealing the full specs of the new console as well as more details about the new Xbox controller that will be bundled with it.
  • The controller will feature several design improvements to enhance accessibility, Microsoft said.
  • The Wireless Controller will also connect to a range of devices, not just the new Xbox, and it’ll feature lower latency, as well as fast USB-C battery charging support.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Microsoft on Monday made another surprise Xbox announcement, the third one since the big reveal last year. It started in mid-December with the Series X name and design reveal. About a month ago, Microsoft detailed the console’s main specs and features, without going into too many hardware specifics.

The company’s new announcements provide those specifics, including the storage information we craved, as well as the first demos of the console. The company also revealed more information on the new Xbox controller. The device has been slightly redesigned and supports additional features. Like the PlayStation 5’s controller, the Xbox controller can be charged via USB-C. But there seems to be at least one DualShock 5 feature Xbox won’t match.

Another NASA employee has COVID-19, forcing work-from-home order

  • A NASA employee in Alabama tested positive for COVID-19, prompting a lockdown and mandatory work-from-home order.
  • All other NASA facilities are now encouraging staff to work from home.
  • Mission-essential work now takes a back seat to safety.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

It was just last week that NASA was forced to lock down its Ames Research Center in Silicon Valley after an employee at the center tested positive for COVID-19. The space agency sent staff home, elevating the center to “Stage 3,” which is NASA’s label for a mandatory work-from-home order.

Now, with the virus continuing to spread across the country, another major NASA location has been hit with the “Stage 3” mandate. This time it’s the Marshall Space Flight Center in Alabama. All employees of the facility will be forced to work from home and staff will have “restricted access to the center until further notice,” according to a NASA press release.

iOS 14 leak reveals a new iPhone 9 model we weren’t expecting

%name iOS 14 leak reveals a new iPhone 9 model we weren’t expecting by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • iOS 14 leaks, at this point, have already revealed a ton of fresh insight about Apple’s product and software roadmap for the rest of 2020.
  • The tech blog 9to5Mac has also found, based on a look at an early iOS 14 build, that Apple is also apparently working on a larger version of the iPhone 9, which we’ll call the iPhone 9 Plus for now even though the name hasn’t been confirmed yet.
  • The phone, which along with the iPhone 9 would replace the iPhone 8 models, is expected to be released sometime this spring.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A slew of leaks related to the next generation of Apple’s iOS software has produced a pretty comprehensive look at this point at the iPhone maker’s hardware and software roadmap for the rest of 2020, including everything from myriad HomeKit improvements to new iOS gestures as well as the possible addition of blood oxygen level tracking to the Apple Watch soon.

Meanwhile, an analysis of an early iOS 14 build has revealed the existence of an iPhone 9 Plus model, which would be in addition to the iPhone 9 we already expected and which confirms rumors that had already been circulating in support of a larger variant of the 4.7-inch entry-level iPhone 9. The expectation is that the name of this larger handset will carry “Plus” in the branding, and that it will run on the A13 Bionic chip — the same used in the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro.

This brilliant iPhone trick might help you fight the coronavirus infection

%name This brilliant iPhone trick might help you fight the coronavirus infection by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The COVID-19 infection lacks unique symptoms. Fever, coughing, and shortness of breath might apply to the flu and other medical conditions as well.
  • But body temperature can and should be measured with regularity during the outbreak, especially if you’ve come in contact with a confirmed coronavirus case.
  • The Health app can help you log fever readings with high accuracy, and there’s a trick to make it even more comfortable to use.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

It may have seemed like a China-only problem a month ago, but the coronavirus threat feels more real than ever to the rest of us now. The virus’s ability to kill its host isn’t the scariest thing about COVID-19. Many of us will get it in the coming weeks and months, but most of us might not even notice it. What’s scary is the virus’s ability to move freely in a community with great speed. A young, healthy, coronavirus-positive person could infect many others, putting the elderly and those people who suffer from pre-existing conditions at risk. That’s who the virus kills, and that’s why social distancing and proper hygiene are of utmost importance right now.

That’s because this nasty virus doesn’t develop easily-identifiable symptoms to make diagnosis simply. Only a test result will confirm that your sudden cough, fever, and shortness of breath are signs of a COVID-19 infection. Considering those symptoms, there’s one other thing you should consider doing while you’re isolating yourself from other people which could prove to be incredibly handy for treating a future infection and preventing additional outbreaks that may occur in the coming months. And all you need to do it is your iPhone, as well as a clever trick that makes it at all a breeze.

%name ‘The Matrix 4’ filming shuts down due to coronavirus pandemic by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The Matrix 4 filming has been suspended indefinitely as a result of the continued spread of the coronavirus.
  • Filming had been set to continue this week in Berlin, Germany, where the film production had relocated from San Francisco, but Warner Bros. decided to err on the side of caution and press pause for the time being. It’s not known at this point whether the pause will impact the Matrix 4 2021 release date.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We may have to wait a little longer to return to the Matrix.

Per Warner Bros.’ orders, production on The Matrix 4 — the long-awaited sequel to the original Matrix trilogy — is being brought to a halt as the coronavirus pandemic continues to ravage the globe. Shooting had moved in recent days to Berlin, Germany, from San Francisco, where members of the public captured and shared via social media scores of scenes and special effects as well as posed for selfies with lead actor Keanu Reeves. And while the movie is set to be released in 2021, it’s not clear at the moment whether or not this interruption will impact the release timetable.

SpaceX forced to abort Falcon 9 launch at the last possible second

%name SpaceX forced to abort Falcon 9 launch at the last possible second by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A SpaceX launch was called off after an automatic rocket abort on Sunday.
  • The launch countdown had already finished, and the announcement of liftoff came before it was clear that the rocket wasn’t going anywhere.
  • SpaceX will reschedule the launch, which included 60 of the company’s Starlink satellites, for a later date.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

SpaceX was forced to call off the planned launch of its next Starlink satellite deployment yesterday after an automatic abort was triggered by an automated rocket system. A launch delay isn’t exactly rare, and SpaceX has had to delay countless missions due to weather and other issues that pop up out of nowhere, but this one reared its ugly head at the last possible second.

In fact, the abort was called so late in the launch sequence that the countdown ended and “liftoff!” was announced. The rocket, however, remained on the launch pad, and the announcement of the abort came shortly thereafter.

New Pixel 5 leak suggests Google is about to make a huge mistake

%name New Pixel 5 leak suggests Google is about to make a huge mistake by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The Pixel 5 is supposed to be Google’s alternative to the iPhone 12 this year, but a disturbing rumor says the new device might not offer buyers access to true high-end hardware.
  • A new leak says the Pixel 5 and Pixel 5 XL will both be powered by an inferior Qualcomm CPU which won’t be as fast as the Snapdragon 865 found in the Galaxy S20 and other Android flagships.
  • There’s no indication that Google is developing a third Pixel 5 with hardware matching the best Android handsets currently available.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Google struggles to sell Pixel phones, yet the handset is critical for Android’s success. No matter how well they sell, the Pixel phones have a clear role for Google, one they inherited from the Nexus line. They’re the perfect vessel to carry Google’s vision of Android. They’re the first devices to run Android out of the box and the first to get the new releases, starting from the early beta versions made available to developers each spring.

Without Pixels, regular users will have to wait several months to get their handsets updated, and Google would have no choice but to rely on its partners when it comes to showing off the new capabilities of Android. With all that in mind, Google has no choice but to continue making Pixel phones going forward. And Google’s hardware has to be able to compete directly against the latest iPhone, Galaxy S, and Huawei flagships — at least on paper. But, with the Pixel 5, Google is seemingly about to make a huge mistake.
