  • Google made a huge change to the YouTube app’s user interface meant to address criticism from some independent content creators.
  • The Trending section is now called Explore and features a Trending menu of its own. If you haven’t been using it before, chances are you won’t even notice the menu alteration.
  • The move is meant to make content discovery easier and help creators get noticed easier than before.

Google this week made a huge change to the user interface of its mobile app for Android and iPhone, but the move won’t really affect your experience. Some people might not even notice that the Trending tab on the bottom — that’s the second menu button from the left — morphed into a tab that’s called Explore. If you did spot the change on Thursday when Google started rolling it out, you’ve probably figured out that you can still find trending videos, if that’s what you’re using the mobile YouTube app for every day.

A JetBlue passenger who flew with the coronavirus got slapped with a lifetime ban

%name A JetBlue passenger who flew with the coronavirus got slapped with a lifetime ban by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • We are going to see a lot more of this kind of thing in the coming days, as the US and the rest of the world continues coming to grips with the spread of the coronavirus: JetBlue has given a lifetime ban to a passenger who flew with the virus.
  • An important caveat: The passenger did not know about the diagnosis before takeoff. The passenger got a text confirming a positive diagnosis while in-flight and notified the crew once the plane landed.
  • Social distancing remains the two-word mantra that officials keep repeating as the US tries to “flatten the curve” of the coronavirus outbreak. Meantime, expect to see more of this kind of thing around the ethics of the disease. Twitter is also full of instances right now of people desperately trying not to cough in public or sneeze, for fear of bringing down the swift wrath on themselves from everyone around them.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Imagine this scenario: In just a few moments from now, you’re about to get into an Uber or a cab. You’re not feeling well, and — just for the sake of argument, because, hopefully, you all are practicing good hygiene and staying safe — you think you might have the coronavirus. In fact, you’ve already been tested and are waiting to get the results back before you know for sure.

Do you proactively tell the driver? “Hey man, by the way, just so you know …”

This exact scenario played out earlier this week. Instead of a cab ride, though, it was a JetBlue flight. A passenger, according to news reports, wasn’t feeling well and took a coronavirus test before boarding a flight. He boarded the flight (while not knowing the results). This passenger got a text during the flight informing him that the diagnosis was positive.

Astronomers spot 139 new ‘minor planets’ in our own solar system

  • Astronomers spotted 139 new objects in our solar system in orbit beyond Neptune.
  • Many of these new trans-Neptunian objects reside in the same area of our system that Pluto does, but some are much further away from the Sun.
  • The new discoveries make up 10 percent of confirmed trans-Neptunian objects on record.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A massive treasure trove of newly-discovered solar system objects was just revealed by astronomers in a new research paper published in The Astrophysical Journal Supplement Series. The team of researchers from the University of Pennsylvania made their discoveries using observations from the Dark Energy Survey, or DES, a six-year project that led to the detection of over 300 objects lurking beyond Neptune.

Of those hundreds of detected objects, 139 of them are new to science. The data that the team had to comb through included millions of possible objects that were detected during the survey. By cross-referencing scans and cataloging the objects that wee consistently observable, the team was able to determine which parts of the data revealed actual trans-Neptunian objects, or TNOs.

Google’s newest Chrome feature is geared towards power users

  • Google constantly adds new features to its popular Chrome browser that make it more attractive to both average users and power users.
  • Google’s latest Chrome addition allows users to make the browser open in Guest mode by default.
  • You can read the instructions for turning on Chrome’s “Default to Guest mode” feature below.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

It seems like every week Google brings a useful and intuitive new feature to one of its many apps and services, and this week is no different. On Wednesday, Craig Tumblison, Chrome Support Manager, revealed a brand new feature that might not serve a purpose for the average user, but could be incredibly helpful for enterprise administrators and power users who want to turn Google’s Chrome browser into a blank slate every time it’s opened.

As of this week, Google has introduced a new feature called Default to Guest mode for Chrome Desktop. As the name suggests, this new feature will allow users to configure Chrome so that it always opens in Guest mode, which provides a stateless browsing experience where the user can’t see or change another Chrome profile’s information and all of the browsing history is deleted as soon as the browsing session ends.

‘Black Widow’ and all the new trailers you need to watch

%name ‘Black Widow’ and all the new trailers you need to watch by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Several blockbusters have already been delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic, including No Time to Die, Fast and Furious 9, Mulan, The New Mutants, and A Quiet Place Part II.
  • Watching movies in theaters isn’t advised right now, as the number of infections has been surging in several countries, including all of Europe and the US.
  • Several trailers for upcoming attractions have been released this week, but some of the movies they promote might end up being delayed as well. Black Widow might be one of them, according to rumors.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

No Time to Die, Fast and Furious 9, Mulan, The New Mutants, and A Quiet Place Part II are just a few of the blockbuster movies that were delayed because of the coronavirus, and we’re just getting started. Depending on how the world deals with COVID-19 in the coming weeks, we might see more film delays.

It’s not just because these companies want to make money at the box office, but also because gatherings of people aren’t advised right now. That’s the best way to prevent infection — that, and washing your hands often. Even Black Widow is rumored to be delayed, and if Disney goes through with it, it’ll be forced to delay other MCU titles as well.

Apple has announced a series of measures it’s taking in response to the spread of the coronavirus, which includes the dramatic step, per CEO Tim Cook, of closing all of its stores outside of Greater China through March 27.

Apple announced that step as part of a multi-pronged effort that also includes moving employees toward remote work arrangements where possible, matching employee donations to support efforts to contain the virus, and more. It follows the iPhone maker’s announcement on Friday that its upcoming annual developers conference, as expected, will switch to an online format this year rather than encouraging reporters and bloggers from the spectrum of the tech industry to gather in one place for the company to show off new software updates for its myriad devices.

Trump’s ban on travel from Europe just went into effect – here’s what happens now

%name Trump’s ban on travel from Europe just went into effect – here’s what happens now by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The federal government has taken a series of dramatic and sweeping steps to try and get the spread of the coronavirus here under control, and one of them just went into effect at midnight Friday night: A ban on travel from Europe imposed by President Trump.
  • The ban excludes US citizens but covers 26 European nations and is set to extend for 30 days. Here’s what happens next, including what US citizens returning home will face, which includes stepped-up health screenings.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

President Trump’s dramatic imposition of a travel ban on foreign nationals coming into the US from Europe just went into effect as of midnight, Friday night — one of several sweeping new measures the federal government has taken to try and bring the spread of the coronavirus under control. And on the same day, no less, that the World Health Organization declared that Europe is now the epicenter of the global outbreak of the virus.

Barring a change in conditions on the ground, Trump announced the ban in a Wednesday night speech televised from the Oval Office, and it’s set to extend for 30 days. US citizens can still fly into the country from Europe, and it’s not the entirety of Europe that’s subject to the ban, so here’s what you need to know (as well as what happens now) in light of the ban now being in effect.
