Elon Musk boasts that Tesla just manufactured its 1 millionth car

  • Tesla CEO Elon Musk recently boasted on Twitter that Tesla had manufactured its 1 millionth car.
  • Tesla’s success in recent years has been bolstered by the Model 3, the company’s affordable EV designed for the mass market.
  • With the Tesla Model Y set to enter production this year, Tesla sales are poised to increase significantly in the near future.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

For a variety of reasons, Tesla seems to have a rather vocal contingent of detractors who are all too inclined to pounce on the company at the first inkling of bad news. And if we’re being honest, Tesla can often act in ways that result in warranted criticism. Whether its the online antics of Elon Musk or the company’s penchant for making ambitious promises on aggressive timelines it can never quite meet, Tesla is a controversial company, to say the least.

At the same time, what Elon Musk and Tesla have managed to achieve in a relatively compressed time frame is nothing short of astounding. Recall, Tesla first hit the scene back in 2008 with the original Tesla Roadster, a niche vehicle from all angles. Flash forward 12 years and Tesla today is thriving and seemingly firing on all cylinders. To this point, Elon Musk this week took to Twitter and announced that the company had produced its one-millionth car.

A day on Earth was a half-hour shorter just 70 million years ago

  • A day on Earth was just 23.5 hours long, 70 million years ago.
  • Researchers discovered this by studying the growth rings of ancient mollusk fossils.
  • The findings could tell us more about or planet and its relationship with the Moon.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

A full day on Earth hasn’t always been 24 hours long. A new study reveals that a day on our planet once lasted approximately 23.5 hours, and it wasn’t that long ago that days were significantly shorter. The finding was made possible by studying the fossilized shells of a mollusk that died 70 million years ago.

By closely examining the growth things of the mollusk shells, and knowing what they already know about how fast mollusk shells grow, the researchers were able to measure the number of days in a year. When the mollusks lived — some 70 million years ago — there were actually 372 days in a year instead of 365, and each day was roughly a half-hour shorter than our days are now.

New Galaxy S20 rival has the same high-end specs in an affordable package

%name New Galaxy S20 rival has the same high end specs in an affordable package by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Vivo’s Nex 3S 5G is the latest 5G flagship from the Chinese smartphone vendor.
  • The smartphone features the same core specs as all of the Galaxy S20 handsets, including the Snapdragon 865 chip with 5G connectivity and fast DDR5 RAM.
  • The new Nex 3S 5G is a lot cheaper than the Galaxy S20, however, starting at around $710.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The Galaxy S20 series consists of three distinct devices: The Galaxy S20, S20+, and S20 Ultra. They all share the same design and core specs, which is excellent news for anyone considering buying a new S20 version this year. What’s different, aside from the screen size and the batteries, is the camera experience. The more money you’re willing to pay, the better the camera specs. But prices start at $999 for the cheapest phone and at $1,399 for the cheapest Galaxy S20, which are much higher price tags than anticipated.

If you’re looking, however, for an Android flagship that packs the same core specs as the Galaxy S20 phones, but at a cheaper entry price, then there’s a brand new Android phone you should check out.

Searching for cheap flights? Now is the time to book if you’re willing to take a risk

%name Searching for cheap flights? Now is the time to book if you’re willing to take a risk by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Airfare is often the biggest component of the budget whenever most people travel, so suffice it to say that people’s hunt for cheap flights never really ends. The great thing is that the airlines themselves will help you if you let them, now that they all run sales and promotions pretty regularly almost year-round at this point.
  • You don’t have to always wait on those sales, though, in your quest for how to find cheap flight deals. In this post, we’ll take a look at a couple of easy tools you can use to score great flight deals and discounts right now, since this is the ideal time to book a flight. Prices are insanely low right now as the travel industry reels from a coronavirus-induced downturn.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Based on some of the worst-case scenario forecasts circulating right now among travel experts, the industry is preparing to see lose than $113 billion in revenue this year as a result of the ongoing spread of the coronavirus around the world — a drop in business the industry hasn’t seen since the 2008 Great Recession. Airlines are increasingly having to operate so-called “ghost flights” because of the slump in business, and it’s likely going to get worse before it gets better. Consider: On Monday, Italy — where the virus is spreading particularly rapidly — announced it’s locking down the entire country. The latest numbers as of the time of this writing also show that more than 108,000 people have been infected globally thus far, with more than 3,800 having died as a result of the disease.

You hardy souls out there who aren’t daunted by the spread of the virus (and who, let’s be clear, aren’t planning to travel anytime soon to the hotspots like Italy, China, and so on) should know that right now might be one of if not the best time to book a flight this year. Prices are way down in a desperate bid to woo fliers, and they’re probably going to shoot way back up fast once the virus dies down so the airlines can make up for the current losses.

CDC tells high-risk groups to prepare for lockdown

%name CDC tells high risk groups to prepare for lockdown by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have updated their stance on the risk that the coronavirus infection COVID-19 poses to individuals in high-risk groups. With the virus spreading in bursts around the United States, the CDC now says that individuals over the age of 60 and those with chronic conditions such as diabetes should be prepared for extended isolation at home with no traveling.

The US Government has shied away from even discussing the possibility of a large-scale lockdown but other, harder-hit countries have already taken that drastic measure. On Monday, Italy announced a country-wide lockdown, and China had extensive quarantine rules in place for weeks in order to curb the spread of the illness.

iOS 14 launch likely on track for June even if WWDC 2020 is canceled

%name iOS 14 launch likely on track for June even if WWDC 2020 is canceled by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • WWDC 2020, scheduled for June 3-7 in San Jose, California, might be canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
  • Apple has yet to confirm anything, but Santa Clara County officials have banned gatherings of people for the next three weeks.
  • Apple is still expected to unveil iOS 14 as well as other software updates at WWDC in June, regardless of what happens with the outbreak.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

It’s coronavirus season everywhere right now except for the place where it all started. The latest stats show 116,000 COVID-19 cases worldwide, and more than 4,000 fatalities, after more than two months since the first case. China is reporting fewer and fewer COVID-19 cases each day, while several hot zones add hundreds to thousands of new cases each day.

While things aren’t as bad everywhere as they are in Italy — a country that’s now in lockdown because of the virus — plenty of countries are bracing for local epidemics and trying to contain it as much as they can. Authorities in some regions have already banned events and huge gatherings of people and paused sporting events. The biggest mobile event of the year was canceled a few weeks ago, even before the Italy outbreak started, and Japan might end up canceling the Summer Olympics in Tokyo soon. That brings us to Apple’s main event of the first half of the year, the WWDC 2020 conference, which is as good as canceled. That doesn’t mean, however, that iOS 14 and the next versions of macOS, tvOS, and watchOS won’t be unveiled this summer.

Cable TV prices have gone up so much that they now exceed most combined utility bills

%name Cable TV prices have gone up so much that they now exceed most combined utility bills by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • One of the consequences of a growing number of consumers cutting the cord and going all-in on streaming TV is that cable TV companies end up raising prices on everyone else.
  • The cable industry is one of the most despised, and it’s partly because of a mixture of poor service and constant price increases. To get an idea of how bad things have gotten for cable TV customers, a new report breaks down the numbers to reveal that most people are actually paying more per month on average for cable than for all other household utilities, combined.
  • The report comes via DecisionData.org, and we’ll take a closer look at it below.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

We’re pretty hard here on the legacy cable TV industry, for reasons that include the regularity of its price increases (with seemingly no regard for how attractive that makes less expensive alternatives look) combined with generally terrible service. As if all that wasn’t enough, though, the industry also keeps finding new ways to infuriate people, which only makes people all the more eager to cut the cord and run straight into the arms of an Internet-based service, leaving the troubled industry to keep searching for new ways to shoot itself in the foot.

If you needed another reminder about how the cable price increases have gotten out of hand, though, here’s one: A new report has found that the average household’s cable TV bill now exceeds all other utility bills combined in that household.

Unreleased Pixel 4a gets a full hands-on review in this leaked video

%name Unreleased Pixel 4a gets a full hands on review in this leaked video by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Google’s Pixel 4a prototype just appeared in an extensive leaked hands-on video review.
  • Unlike the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, the Pixel 4a features a modern display that stretches from the top to the bottom of the phone with a hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera.
  • Other specs include a Snapdragon 730 CPU, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage, a 3080mAh battery, and Android 10 pre-installed.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Google’s smartphones have never made as much of a splash as Android phones from Samsung, Xiaomi, or Huawei, but the excitement surrounding the Pixel brand reached an all-time low following the release of the disappointing Pixel 4. Although the Pixel 4 was technically more powerful than any other phone Google has ever released, the uninspired design and general bugginess left a bad taste in the mouths of Google fans.

In the meantime, Samsung has released another stellar (but expensive) series in the Galaxy S line, Motorola jumped back into the conversation with a foldable Razr, and several Chinese brands have continued to push the envelope of both design and specifications, all while Google has been mysteriously silent. But the silence will likely end soon, as the most detailed hands-on video of the unannounced Pixel 4a we’ve ever seen just leaked.

St. Patrick’s Day is just a week away, and the ubiquitous doughnut chain Krispy Kreme is already planning to get in on the celebrating with the debut of something it’s never tried before — green doughnuts.

The fun actually gets started at shops throughout the US this Saturday (March 14) and will run through St. Patrick’s Day itself (March 17). What to watch on Netflix and TV: 10 new series to watch this week (March, week 2)

%name What to watch on Netflix and TV: 10 new series to watch this week (March, week 2) by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Each week, the developers behind popular iPhone and Android app TV Time share a list of the top 10 most popular TV series people are watching on TV, Netflix, and more streaming services.
  • Netflix always has a strong presence on the list each week, but this week’s showing is especially strong — seven of the top 10 most popular shows of the week are streaming on Netflix.
  • YouTube TV also has a show on this week’s list, which is a nice surprise since the service isn’t often represented in TV Time’s roundups.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Netflix dominated last week’s list of the top 10 shows everyone is watching on Netflix, TV, and other streaming services. In fact, the nation’s top streaming service captured all four of the top four spots, with the smash-hit new series I Am Not Okay With This coming in at #1. For those of you who somehow missed it, this is a show that should absolutely be on your radar. The show was created by Jonathan Entwistle, whose name you likely recognize as the creator of another popular Netflix original series called The End Of The F***ing World, and it stars Sophia Lillis as Sydney Novak, a teenage girl who moves to a small town following the untimely death of her father. She’s already having trouble fitting in at her new high school when she makes a startling discovery that further complicates things: she has superpowers that she can’t control. It’s a very quick watch that you can absolutely binge in just one sitting since the entire first season is just 156 minutes long including credits.

Once you’re done with that great new show and you’re on the lookout for more new series to check out, you’ll find this week’s top 10 list of the most popular content on Netflix, TV, and more down below. And if you thought Netflix dominated last week’s top 10, just wait until you see how many Netflix shows made the list during this second week of March.
