Uber’s latest update makes it easier than ever to find your driver

%name Uber’s latest update makes it easier than ever to find your driver by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Uber never waits long between updates, and on Thursday, the company announced two new features that should make life easier for both riders and drivers alike. I was actually surprised that the first wasn’t already part of the app, but Uber is preparing a translation tool that will allow you and your driver to instantly translate either a pre-generated phrase or a custom message from one another with a single tap in the chat.

Previously, if a driver sent a message to a rider, it would appear in the driver’s preferred language, no matter what the rider’s preferred language on the app happened to be. Once the update rolls out, both parties will have the option to hit the “Translate” button to see the message in their language of choice.

The Galaxy S20 is Samsung’s best phone ever, but you can’t have it just yet. You can preorder it, and it’ll ship to your door next week. But when you take it out of the box, it’ll come with a few preloaded bugs that will ruin its signature feature. Samsung has confirmed it’ll fix that feature, but failed to admit it did anything wrong.

Spotify is one of many peoples’ most-used daily apps on their mobile device, so anytime it makes even a modest change to the app (related to its design or otherwise) it will be noticed and engaged with by a huge global audience. The music streamer recently pushed through an update that made podcasts easier to surface for their growing audience on the platform — and today, the streamer has announced a refreshed look for the app that both free and premium subscribers can enjoy on iOS (with an Android update coming soon).

The update includes “a more streamlined, easy-to-use interface,” the company said today, “with fresh designs to actionable icons that will make playing your favorite song or playlist as simple as the tap of a button.” Read on for a look at what’s changed.

AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile will pay a massive fine for violating your privacy

%name AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T Mobile will pay a massive fine for violating your privacy by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Federal Communications Commission is preparing to recommend that a fine of at least $200 million be levied against four major US wireless carriers — AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile — in the wake of a serious consumer privacy violation that came to light back in 2018. It involved the disclosure of some real-time location data connected to the carriers’ customers, and anonymous sources have told reporters that the fine will be announced by Friday — though the companies will have a chance to oppose that financial penalty before it becomes official, at which point the exact amount could also be adjusted and possibly increased.

Japan just closed all of its schools to contain coronavirus outbreak

%name Japan just closed all of its schools to contain coronavirus outbreak by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The new coronavirus, also called COVID-19, already has the world on edge. Even as health officials around the globe fight to contain the spread, nobody is sure exactly how long this whole scare will last, or how much damage it will do before it finally subsides.

Now, in a major move from one of the hardest-hit countries, Japan has made the difficult decision to shut down all schools for a full month in the hopes that it can curb the spread of the virus. This makes Japan the second country to take the drastic step of halting schools, with China being the first to issue a lockdown as the virus ravaged the country over the past two months.

GameStop confirms several PS5 features – but how does it stack up against the Xbox Series X?

%name GameStop confirms several PS5 features – but how does it stack up against the Xbox Series X? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

For months, gamers the world over have been anticipating news about the PlayStation 5 from Sony. With just hours left to go in February, it seems unlikely that this will be the month we learn more about the next-gen console, which is why even a page on GameStop’s website to sign up for notifications about the PS5 has made some waves online. To be clear, you can’t even preorder the console — GameStop will just email you when you can.

Snark aside, GameStop does run down a few of the key features and specifications we learned about last year, so we thought it might be interesting to compare everything we know about the PlayStation 5 with the detailed blog post that Microsoft shared earlier this week about the ridiculously powerful Xbox Series X.

%name Coronavirus cases are literally popping up out of nowhere, which is terrifying by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The coronavirus outbreak has sent the world’s health groups into overdrive as they work to prevent the future spread of the virus and manage the cases that have already been confirmed. Tracking each new case as it pops up is important since it helps officials track how the virus spread from its original location.

Now, adding a frightening new wrinkle to the saga, a confirmed coronavirus case out of Northern California is leaving the Centers for Disease Control puzzled, as the individual has no connection to any other infected patients and has not traveled to any regions where they would likely have caught the virus.

Finally upgrade to an electric toothbrush for just $18, today only

%name Finally upgrade to an electric toothbrush for just $18, today only by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Have you ever heard of the brand Fairywill? If you answered no, don’t worry because you’re definitely not alone. You’ve heard of Anker though, right? Anker is the company that made a name for itself by selling charging accessories and other devices that are just as good as models from big consumer electronics brands, but at a fraction of the price. That’s basically what Fairywill is, but for electric toothbrushes instead of smartphone chargers.

If high prices that reach well beyond $100 have kept you from upgrading to an Oral-B electric toothbrush, you’re definitely not alone. I finally took the plunge a few years ago thanks to a Black Friday deal, but I still paid more than twice while you’ll pay for one of the Fairywill models on sale over at Amazon on Thursday, and they’re just as good. In fact, one of the models on sale today has more than 6,800 5-star ratings!

The deals begin with the Fairywill 3-Mode Sonic Toothbrush. It’s on par with the best in the business thanks to a motor that provides 35,000 micro brush strokes per minute, but the best part might be the battery life. Charge this model for 4 hours and it’ll last 30 days or even longer! I’m lucky if I get one full week out of my Oral-B before the red battery light starts blinking. This model is already a steal at $26, but it’s down to just $17.99 until the end of the day.

Here are the bullet points you should check out:

  • POWERFUL CLEANING AS JUST GET OFF DENTIST’S CHAIR with 35,000 micro-brush per minute. Remove up to 100% more plaques and stains, compared with a regular manual toothbrush. Enjoy clean and healthy teeth in 7 days and improve gum and oral health in 14 days.
  • 4 HOURS CHARGE FOR MINIMUM 30 DAYS USE, 3 MODES OF CLEAN, SOFT (SENSITIVE), MASSAGE (GUM CARE) to suit different conditions of teeth and gums. Electric toothbrush for kids or adults. 2 minutes smart timer with interval pause reminding every 30 seconds to encourage dentist-recommended brushing habit. Waterproof to be used at bath and shower.
  • 55 GRAM EXTRA-LIGHT WEIGHT DESIGN, less than half of regular electric toothbrush. Light in hand but thorough cleaning with reduced noise, upgraded brushing experience than a regular electric toothbrush. 3 Brush heads included.
  • FANTASTIC FOR TRAVEL. rechargeable, safe and easy, auto shut off after full charge, compatible with any charger or equipment with a USB port. Low battery reminding. Fresh users may experience a tickling/tingling sensation but normally get used to it within 2 weeks and will love to brush the teeth.
  • GREAT CHOICE FOR FAMILY. Combination of both strong mode and gentle mode for adults, children/kids and also a senior person. Mini head for deep and precise clean. Medium soft bristles to avoid abrasion to teeth, enamel, and gums. Brush head with rings of different colors easily allows sharing of the handle with family. Anti-slip handle. Protective bristle cover to have the brush easily included in a travel bag.

There are also three more deals in Amazon’s one-day Gold Box blowout. Spend just $1 more and you’ll get the Fairywill 507 Electric Toothbrush in black with five different brushing modes instead of three. The mid-range Fairywill 2081 Electric Toothbrush model that comes with two DuPont brush heads is on sale for $20.99, and the best-in-class Fairywill P11 Plus Sonic Whitening Electric Toothbrush is down to $32.49 instead of $50. All three of these electric toothbrush models also feature 30+ day battery life like the first one, but they add all sorts of additional features that you can read about on the product pages. If you want our advice, go for the P11 Plus while it’s down to its lowest price ever.

China’s ambitious mission to the far side of the Moon has already returned stunning results. The lander and its pint-sized rover have beamed back some gorgeous images of the lesser-seen side of Earth’s tiny neighbor and conducted a whole bunch of science since landing in early 2019.

Now, in the latest update from researchers working on the mission, a new paper published in Science Advances reveals a heap of new info about the layers that make up the Moon’s surface. The data, gathered by the Yutu 2 rover’s ground-penetrating radar tools, show multiple distinct layers, each of which stretches dozens of feet into the Moon.

Pan and zoom from your phone with $33 home security cameras on Amazon, today only

%name Pan and zoom from your phone with $33 home security cameras on Amazon, today only by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

On any other day, we would tell anyone on the lookout for a great home security camera to skip the $200 Nest Cam and pick up a Wyze Cam on Amazon. At $24 for all the core features you’d find in a Nest Cam as well as 14 days of free cloud storage for clips you record, it really doesn’t get any better than this. That said, there’s a one-day blowout sale happening right now on Amazon that slashes even better wireless home security cameras to all-time low prices, so we’re amending our recommendation until the end of the day on Thursday.

If you’ve never heard of the smart home company Blurams, you’re not alone. Blurams isn’t exactly a household name, after all. But dig a bit deeper on Amazon and you’ll find great ratings on all of the brand’s top products, and that’s why Amazon selected three of its cameras to feature in today’s big one-day Gold Box sale.

First up, we have the Blurams 1080p Dome Security Camera on sale for just $32.99. This great camera features 1080p resolution, motion detection, sound detection, AI alerts, a special privacy mode, support for cloud storage as well as local storage, and more. On top of all that, it’s a dome camera so you can use one camera to see every last inch of a room by panning around and zooming with the app on your iPhone or Android!

Here’s some more info from the product page:

  • 360° Coverage Monitoring – 118° FOV, 355° horizontal range, and 90° vertical range provide clarity 360° coverage. 1080p resolution with night vision provides crisp videos day and night. 2-way audio allows you to talk with the family or send voice command to your dog.
  • Smart Instant Alerts – Automatically record a 10-15 second alert video to the cloud via end-to-end encryption and are accessible for 24 hours – no subscription or monthly fees required. Get notified on a smartphone when this indoor camera detects motion and sounds, such as baby crying, smoke alarming or glass breaking. Select a specific activity zone or turn on auto-cruise mode to scan the area you want to view. Enter privacy masking mode ensures it record nothing without your permission.
  • Multi-Camera Viewing – Assess 4 IP cameras simultaneously on Blurams App or official web portal to remotely monitor different places. It allows you to share your camera with family members and live stream your cats, kids or something you want to view to your phone anytime and anywhere. Works with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi networks only (does not support 5GHz Wi-Fi).
  • More AI Features on Cloud – Blurams snowman comes with one-month free cloud trial service with free rolling 7-day storage on the cloud to avoid the footage loss from the local storage. Quick searching the event on cloud according to the camera model, time or alert type, sharing footages or editing your favorite files is easy on the cloud. Local storage supports up to 128G SD card.
  • Works with Alexa – Remotely control your Blurams home camera with the Alexa Assistant with the simple voice command. Ask the Alexa to show your room or kitchen where you put the Blurams dome camera.

blurams 1080p Dome Security Camera | PTZ Surveillance System with Motion/Sound Detection, Smart…: $32.99

Next up, we have the upgraded Blurams Dome Pro 1080p Security Camera, which packs a bunch of cool features you won’t find on the base model. Examples include a built-in siren, facial recognition and person alerts, and additional AI features you don’t get on the regular Blurams Dome Camera. And since it’s still a dome cam, you can also pan and zoom from the app just like the other model. It’s already a steal at $55, but Amazon is selling it right now for an all-time low of $41.99.

blurams Dome Pro, 1080p Security Camera with Siren | PTZ Surveillance System with Facial Recogn…: $41.99

Last but not least, we have the Blurams Outdoor Pro 1080p Security Camera. This weatherproof outdoor camera is IP65 rated so you don’t have to worry about rain, snow, or even dust getting into the camera. It keeps many of the smart features from the Dome Pro mentioned above, like facial recognition, smart person alerts, and even a built-in siren to deter thieves who might be lurking around your home. $71 is already a great price for this model, but it’s on sale for just $55.99 until the end of the day on Thursday.
