Uber never waits long between updates, and on Thursday, the company announced two new features that should make life easier for both riders and drivers alike. I was actually surprised that the first wasn’t already part of the app, but Uber is preparing a translation tool that will allow you and your driver to instantly translate either a pre-generated phrase or a custom message from one another with a single tap in the chat.

Previously, if a driver sent a message to a rider, it would appear in the driver’s preferred language, no matter what the rider’s preferred language on the app happened to be. Once the update rolls out, both parties will have the option to hit the “Translate” button to see the message in their language of choice.

The music streamer recently pushed through an update that made podcasts easier to surface for their growing audience on the platform — and today, the streamer has announced a refreshed look for the app that both free and premium subscribers can enjoy on iOS (with an Android update coming soon).

The Federal Communications Commission is preparing to recommend that a fine of at least $200 million be levied against four major US wireless carriers — AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-Mobile — in the wake of a serious consumer privacy violation that came to light back in 2018. It involved the disclosure of some real-time location data connected to the carriers’ customers, and anonymous sources have told reporters that the fine will be announced by Friday — though the companies will have a chance to oppose that financial penalty before it becomes official, at which point the exact amount could also be adjusted and possibly increased.

The new coronavirus, also called COVID-19, already has the world on edge. Even as health officials around the globe fight to contain the spread, nobody is sure exactly how long this whole scare will last, or how much damage it will do before it finally subsides.

Now, in a major move from one of the hardest-hit countries, Japan has made the difficult decision to shut down all schools for a full month in the hopes that it can curb the spread of the virus. This makes Japan the second country to take the drastic step of halting schools, with China being the first to issue a lockdown as the virus ravaged the country over the past two months.

China’s ambitious mission to the far side of the Moon has already returned stunning results. The lander and its pint-sized rover have beamed back some gorgeous images of the lesser-seen side of Earth’s tiny neighbor and conducted a whole bunch of science since landing in early 2019.

Now, in the latest update from researchers working on the mission, a new paper published in Science Advances reveals a heap of new info about the layers that make up the Moon’s surface. The data, gathered by the Yutu 2 rover’s ground-penetrating radar tools, show multiple distinct layers, each of which stretches dozens of feet into the Moon.
