Facebook cancels F8 2020 conference over cononavirus fears

Another major tech conference is skipping this year amid growing concerns about the novel coronavirus.

On Thursday, Facebook announced that “the in-person component” of F8 2020, its annual developer conference, has been canceled. In recent years, F8 has served as both a gathering place for developers who make use of Facebook’s various platforms as well as a press conference to announce new products and services. For example, preorders for the Oculus Quest and Oculus Rift S opened at last year’s F8 event.

Infinity War and Endgame are two of the best movies Marvel has made so far, and that’s due in large part to the fact that it spent nearly 10 years fleshing out this universe that places all these key characters on converging paths. That’s what made them so exciting to begin with, and that’s probably why they still generate so much attention nearly two years after the Infinity War’s release. The following set of images shared on Instagram a few days ago is a great example of this ongoing Avengers conversation. And it also happens to be a great concept for a scene that never made it into Avengers 3.

These crazy deals on Roku TVs and Roku players are almost over

%name These crazy deals on Roku TVs and Roku players are almost over by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

There are a few deals we’ve told you about this week on Roku TVs and Roku players, but we wanted to bring them to our readers’ attention one last time because there’s a very good chance that they’ll disappear at the end of the week. Several of them are easily the best deals on Roku devices that we’ve seen in a long time, so we would be remiss if we didn’t give you one last chance to get in on the action.

First, there’s a crazy deal on Amazon that slashes $500 off the price of the TCL 75S425 75 Inch 4K UHD HDR Smart Roku TV, which means you can get a massive 75-inch Roku TV with 4K resolution, HDR support, and about 5,000 5-star ratings on Amazon for just $799.99. That’s nuts!

TCL 75S425 75 Inch 4K UHD HDR Smart Roku TV (2019): $799.99

Two smaller versions of the same TV model are also on sale: TCL’s 43-inch 4K Roku TV is down to just $229.99 ($100 off), and the 50-inch model is $269.99 ($30 off). Both of these models offer the same great features as the huge 75-inch version, as well as the same great picture quality. If you don’t quite have enough room for something as big as that 75-inch TV, these are both terrific options.

TCL 43S425 43 Inch 4K Ultra HD Smart Roku LED TV (2018): $229.99

TCL 50S425 50 inch 4K Smart LED Roku TV (2019): $269.99

Those are all fantastic deals, but what if you already have a TV and you just want access to the latest and greatest Roku software. The $60 Roku Streaming Stick+ is currently down to just $39, which is close to the wildly popular gadget’s all-time low price and even less than it cost on Black Friday. It supports 4K resolution, HDR content, and you get access to all of the streaming content services you can imagine.

Roku Streaming Stick+ | HD/4K/HDR Streaming Device with Long-range Wireless and Voice Remote wi…: $39.00

Again, all of these deals likely end this week, so hurry up your you’ll miss out!

Sony’s PS5 design is still a mystery, but we really hope it’s something like this

%name Sony’s PS5 design is still a mystery, but we really hope it’s something like this by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Microsoft this week revealed even more details about its upcoming Xbox Series X console, just a few months after unveiling the Xbox Series X name and design. Sony, on the other hand, doesn’t seem as ready to make any PS5 announcements of its own. The PlayStation 5 was rumored to be unveiled this month, but with February almost over, that seems highly unlikely. Sony hasn’t even announced a press event for the console, and the coronavirus outbreak could be to blame for that. The company already pulled out of three shows, including MWC and two gaming events. Sony announced it won’t attend E3 in June either, which means it has to hold a separate PS5 event at some point in the coming months. While we all continue to wait for that to happen, some fans have come up with their own PS5 design concepts and this latest one is fantastic.

Every single popular Fire TV device is deeply discounted right now on Amazon

%name Every single popular Fire TV device is deeply discounted right now on Amazon by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Last week, practically every popular Amazon device available was on sale at a discount. From Echo smart speakers and Ring Video Doorbells to Kindles and everything in between, Amazon was offering it at a discount. There was one popular Amazon product line that was noticeably absent from last week’s sales event though, and the omission had many people scratching their heads. If you were wondering why Amazon’s Fire TV lineup wasn’t on sale last week though, the answer is now quite clear: Amazon was saving its Fire TV deals for this week, and literally every single popular Fire TV device is now on sale.

Starting with the best-selling devices of the bunch, Amazon has dropped the Fire TV Stick and the Fire TV Stick 4K to their lowest prices of 2020, just $24.99 and $34.99, respectively. The entry-level Fire TV Stick is Amazon’s single best-selling streaming media player of all time, and the Fire TV Stick 4K is of course the upgraded version that supports 4K resolution and HDR content. At this discounted price, we would definitely recommend opting for the 4K model and futureproofing your purchase.

The beauty of the Fire TV Stick and the Fire TV Stick 4K is the fact that they give you access to every streaming service imaginable in an awesome interface, and they plug right into an HDMI port on your TV so you can tuck them out of the way. If you have some space on your table or in your media console though, you should consider a different little device: the Fire TV Cube. It’s basically a Fire TV Stick and an Echo Dot rolled into one, and it’s on sale today at its lowest price ever.

If you’re a cord cutter, you’ll be happy to learn that the Fire TV Recast is also on sale today with deep discounts. The $230 500GB model gets a big $85 price cut to $144.99, while the pricier 1TB version drops to just $194.99 from $280. Amazon’s Fire TV Recast packs all the features of a standard Fire TV device, but it also connects to an over the air (OTA) antenna and provides DVR features just like your cable company’s DVR that cord cutters often miss so much.

Fire TV Recast, over-the-air DVR, 1 TB, 150 hours, DVR for cord cutters: $194.99

Last but certainly not least, several smart TVs with built-in Fire TV software are on sale today at or near their lowest prices of 2020. The $300 Insignia NS-43-inch 4K Ultra HD Fire TV Edition Smart LED TV with 7,000 5-star ratings is down to $249.99, the $380 TOSHIBA 50LF711U20 50-inch 4K Ultra HD Fir eTV Edition Smart LED TV is on sale for $299.99, and the $430 Insignia NS-55DF710NA19 55-inch 4K Ultra HD Fire TV Edition Smart LED TV is down to $369.99. These are all limited-time deals though, so grab one while you still can.

The Google app that wows me every time I use it just got its first big update in years

%name The Google app that wows me every time I use it just got its first big update in years by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you’re a longtime reader of this site, you probably know how much I love Google’s various apps and services because I talk about it all the time. If it were up to me, pretty much every app on my iPhone would be a Google app. I use Gmail for all of my work and personal email, Google Photos to back up all of my images and free up storage on my handset, Google Maps and Waze to navigate, Google Drive to access files in the cloud, Google Voice for all of my work calls, Google Calendar, and plenty more. In fact, I don’t even open Safari on my iPhone anymore because I just use the main Google search app instead. Is Google “evil”? Sure, if you want to call it that. Google is an advertising company and it makes money by using your personal data to serve targetted ads. That’s how you pay for all of Google’s free services. If you’re overly concerned about privacy and you think Google cares enough about you personally to use this data in some nefarious way, the solution is simple: don’t use Google services. Personally, I’m happy to hand over my data, which is also used to personalize my app and service experiences in so many great ways. Thanks for being so evil, Google!

Earlier this week, a rumor popped up suggesting that Apple is considering allowing iPhone users to set third-party apps as their default apps in iOS. My heart might’ve skipped a beat. My dream is for Google to completely take over my iPhone, and that would be a big step toward making that dream a reality. Why not switch to Android, you ask? I’d love to, but Apple’s hardware and software integrations across devices are just too good to be without. Thankfully, all of Google’s best apps and services are available on iOS, and that includes one app in particular that wows me each and every time I use it.

You’ll be shocked at how good these noise cancelling headphones are – and they’re down to just $26

%name You’ll be shocked at how good these noise cancelling headphones are – and they’re down to just $26 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Noise cancelling headphones used to be special. Remember back in the day when the first pair of Bose ANC headphones came out? People were practically falling out of their chairs when they put them on because they couldn’t believe this type of technology could be built into a pair of headphones. It was incredible.

Needless to say, we’ve come a long way since then. Not only are noise cancelling headphones available far more widely, but the technology has also come such a long way that prices are nowhere near as high as they used to be. Don’t get us wrong, you’ll still have to pay an arm and a leg for top-of-the-line ANC headphones from top brands like Bose, Sony, and Beats, but you’ll also find a bunch of more affordable options out there from brands that don’t have to build massive marketing budgets into their prices.

Budget brands have really come a long way across the board when it comes to noise cancelling headphones. From designs and sound quality to battery life and noise cancellation technology, you’ll be shocked at the kind of quality you can get out of a pair of headphones that cost a fraction of what you would pay for headphones from the big guys. And today, we’re showcasing one deal in particular that will blow you away.

The TaoTronics TT-BH047 Active Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones are among the best entry-level and mid-range ANC headphones we’ve ever tested, and they retail for $49.99 on Amazon. That price alone is mind-boggling when you consider that similar headphones from Sony and Bose cost $350. The sound quality is impressive, they’re very comfortable, and they last for up to 24 hours on a single charge, or up to 20 hours with ANC turned on the entire time. That’s easily on par with some of the best ANC headphones out there. $49.99 is crazy enough, but if you use the coupon code HDQX5Z9Y at checkout right now, you’ll get a pair for just $25.99. There’s no better value out there right now, so definitely take advantage of this deal while you still can.

TaoTronics Active Noise Cancelling Bluetooth Headphones, Durable Over Ear Headphones with Soft…: $25.99 (use code HDQX5Z9Y by 3/3)

Those ANC headphones are remarkable, as we said, but they’re obviously not quite on par with top-of-the-line headphones from the likes of Bose and Sony. If you’re looking for great deals on those pricier models, here’s what we’ve got for you:

Bose QuietComfort 35 II Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones that typically cost $350 are down to an all-time low of $218 right now if you get them in Bose’s rose gold color. You can also pick up a renewed pair of Bose QC35 II headphones in either black or silver and you’ll save about $100 on either pair.

Bose QuietComfort 35 II Wireless Bluetooth Headphones, Noise-Cancelling, with Alexa voice contr…: $219.00

Bose QuietComfort 35 (Series II) Wireless Headphones, Noise Cancelling – Black (Renewed): $259.99

Amazon is also running a terrific deal right now on Sony WH1000XM3 Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones, which many people believe to be even better than Bose ANC headphones. They normally sell for $350 as well, but you can get brand new WH1000XM3 for $100 less than that if you pick up the international model right now. They’re the same headphones, but they’re important and don’t come with a Sony warranty. They are warrantied by the seller on Amazon though, so it’s a great opportunity to save a ton of money.

Microsoft just spoiled another exciting feature coming to Xbox Series X

%name Microsoft just spoiled another exciting feature coming to Xbox Series X by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When Microsoft shared new details about the Xbox Series X earlier this week, the focus was understandably on the specifications and the hardware. With a 12 teraflop GPU, the new Xbox will be twice as powerful as the Xbox One X, and that’s to say nothing of the custom CPU, the lightning-fast SSD, the Variable Rate Shading (VRS) to improve the quality of each scene, and hardware-accelerated DirectX Raytracing.

But I was just as intrigued by the new features as I was the upgraded hardware, which is why I wrote an entire article about Smart Delivery. It turns out that Microsoft had one last feature to reveal, though. Speaking with Jason Ronald, Partner Director of Program Management, Xbox Live’s “Major Nelson” (Larry Hyrb) explained just how much more powerful the quick resume feature will be on Xbox Series X than it was on Xbox One.
