Coronavirus boom in Italy puts Europe on edge

As the coronavirus disease COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc within China and its neighboring countries, the impact of the outbreak elsewhere on the planet has been relatively isolated. Unfortunately for residents and tourists in Italy, the country has quickly become a new hotspot, and this week brings a new rash of confirmed cases.

As NPR reports, the latest estimates out of Italy suggest as many as 229 confirmed infections. That makes Italy one of the hardest-hit countries, and at the latest count, the death toll sits at six, with 27 of the infected patients in intensive care.

Google reportedly wants to do business with Huawei again

%name Google reportedly wants to do business with Huawei again by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Mobile World Congress might be canceled, but several companies in the industry announced new products this week, including China’s largest smartphone maker, and the world’s second-largest handset vendor. Huawei unveiled a brand new version of the Mate X foldable that impressed us last year, which is better in every way than its predecessor (except for the software). Huawei is still banned from working with US tech companies, so the Mate Xs ships without Google apps preloaded, just like the Mate 30 series before it.

Moreover, Huawei’s brand Honor launched a couple of new Android handsets on Monday as well, including a 5G flagship and a mid-range phone. Both of them come without Google apps preinstalled. A few days before the new Huawei and Honor announcements, Google finally explained why Huawei phones come without Google apps. But it turns out that Google may already be seeking official permission from the White House to work with Huawei again — although it’s not exactly clear what that means.

All the power in the world won’t save the Xbox Series X if it doesn’t have any games

Much like Tyson Fury was in his highly-anticipated rematch against Deontay Wilder over the weekend, Sony was the undisputed winner of the last home console generation. The PlayStation 4 is the fourth best-selling console of all time, and may very well move up at least one more spot before it finally gets taken off the market. With such a sizable lead, it’s entirely possible that Sony doesn’t feel any pressure to reveal anything about the PlayStation 5 until it’s good and ready, but in the meantime, Microsoft has been building hype for the Xbox Series X uncontested.

In December, Microsoft surprised us with an unveiling of the Xbox Series X console at The Game Awards. And then on Monday, we learned just how powerful the Xbox Series X would be as Microsoft did a deep dive into the console’s specifications. They are as impressive as we could’ve imagined, but even with 12 teraflops of computing speed and a lightning-fast solid-state drive, there’s one thing I still need to see before I’m sold: Games.

Overconfidence in Tesla Autopilot contributed to 2018 Model X crash, safety board announces

%name Overconfidence in Tesla Autopilot contributed to 2018 Model X crash, safety board announces by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Robert Sumwalt, the chairman of the National Transportation Safety Board, had some choice words to share on Tuesday about the Autopilot driver assistance feature that the electric carmaker Tesla touts as a key offering associated with its cars. Cars like the Model X that was traveling on Autopilot at about 70 mph back in 2018 when it crashed into a safety barrier and killed 38-year-old Apple software engineer Walter Huang in 2018 in a fiery crash.

At the end of a three-hour-long hearing Tuesday, the safety board issued its findings in the wake of the crash, which Sumwalt offered some context for via his critique of Tesla’s Autopilot mode. Unfortunately, investigators said Tuesday, the driver was playing a video game on his smartphone when his car tragically crashed — something you absolutely cannot do when you’re riding in a car with partial automation, Sumwalt stressed.

The iPhone 12 release could see a huge delay if the coronavirus can’t be contained

%name The iPhone 12 release could see a huge delay if the coronavirus can’t be contained by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Despite concerted efforts from medical professionals and researchers to contain the coronavirus, the virus has started to spread to other countries across the globe. Most recently, there has been an uptick in infections across Italy, Iran, and South Korea. And of course, the virus remains an ongoing threat in China.

In light of that, there are a number of question marks hovering over Apple’s forthcoming iPhone releases given that many of Apple’s manufacturing partners in China are operating at less than full capacity. Consequently, some analysts believe that supply of the upcoming iPhone 9 and the iPhone 12 may be heavily constrained at launch. What’s more, some analysts believe that if the coronavirus continues to spread, we may see Apple push back the release of the iPhone 12 entirely.

Galaxy S20 Ultra 100x zoom camera samples show how amazing the feature can be

%name Galaxy S20 Ultra 100x zoom camera samples show how amazing the feature can be by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The best model in Samsung’s new flagship lineup is the Galaxy S20 Ultra, a device that starts at $1,399. For that price, however, you get the same design and core specs as the other S20 models in a much bigger package. The larger screen and battery size and the faster charging aren’t the most exciting features of the Ultra, though, because the handset has a unique camera system that features a 108-megapixel primary camera, and a 48-megapixel telephoto lens that supports up to 100x Super Resolution Zoom.

That’s what Samsung calls its highest optical zoom on these phones, and the S20 Ultra has the best such zoom that you can ask for, given where the technology is at. If you followed Samsung’s event a few weeks ago, where Samsung offered a live demo of the 100x zoom, you already know that the demo was not a success. Yes, the zoom is impressive, but don’t expect great quality. However, real-life photos show how spectacular the 100x zoom really is, and prove that while the feature is gimmicky, it’s worth having in your pocket.

One of the hottest Nintendo Switch games is on sale at its lowest price

%name One of the hottest Nintendo Switch games is on sale at its lowest price by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you have a Nintendo Switch and you’ve been looking for some new games to play to rekindle your love affair with Nintendo’s awesome convertible console, today is definitely your lucky day. Head on over to Amazon right now and you’ll find deep discounts available on tons of best-selling Switch games. You can find them all right here on Amazon, but some examples include:

Those are indeed some terrific deals on games that are all a blast to play, and savings up to $40 on popular games is nothing to scoff at. That said, there’s one game deal in particular that you need to check out right now.

Several of the titles above are popular best-sellers, but they tend to go on sale reasonably frequently. Fire Emblem: Three Houses for the Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, doesn’t often go on sale. Right now, this super-popular game is on sale right now for $44.99, which is an all-time low. There is no doubt in our minds that this is the best turn-based RPG game available for Nintendo’s Switch, and we’re not sure when it will be on sale this cheap again. If you don’t already have a copy, definitely check it out.

Fire Emblem: Three Houses: $44.99

Here’s the description from the product page:

War is coming to the continent of Fódlan. Here, order is maintained by the Church of Seiros, which hosts the prestigious Officer’s Academy within its headquarters. You are invited to teach one of its three mighty houses, each comprised of students brimming with personality and represented by a royal from one of three territories. As their professor, you must lead your students in their academic lives and in turn-based, tactical RPG battles wrought with strategic, new twists to overcome. Which house, and which path, will you choose?

The game features the refined gameplay the Fire Emblem franchise is known for. Command a party of warriors to move and fight on a grid-based battlefield and, for the first time in the series history, assign battalions of troops to support individual units in battle. As a professor, you are responsible for teaching your students and improving their skills in their academic lives and in battle. These may be school assignments, but the stakes are very real. Your students’ lives depend on your leadership. It’s up to you to guide each of them, so that they may wield a variety of weapons, master the study of magic, and acquire special skills such as horsemanship. But there’s more to being a professor than commanding armies. Freely roam Garreg Mach Monastery and the academy within it, while interacting with talented students to build relationships and gather intel. After meeting one enigmatic girl named Sothis…you’ll come to realize that she appears only within your mind. What other mysteries await?

The Toyko Olympics could actually be canceled due to the coronavirus outbreak

The coronavirus outbreak originated and China and has since slowly spread across many corners of the globe. Most confirmed cases of COVID-19 infection are isolated to China, but neighboring countries including Japan have seen their fair share as well.

That’s bad news, specifically for Japan, as the country has a rather important date fast approaching in the form of the 2020 Summer Olympics which are to be held in Tokyo in just a few months’ time. Now, with so much uncertainty surrounding the spread of the virus and the status of vaccines and other preventative measures, Olympics organizers are discussing the very real possibility that the games will be delayed or even canceled.

Futuristic PS5 feature might read your vital signs and integrate them into gameplay

%name Futuristic PS5 feature might read your vital signs and integrate them into gameplay by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Sony is yet to unveil the PS5 in all its glory, but we do know the new PlayStation 5 will sport the same hardware as the Xbox Series X. When it comes to core specs, the same 7nm AMD chips will power both consoles, and each of them will come with SSD storage on board. But that’s where the magic starts, as Sony and Microsoft will both try to lure in buyers with a few exclusive features. Microsoft already unveiled some of them earlier this week, when it released most of the Series X’s specs. Sony hasn’t made any PlayStation 5 announcements since early January when it revealed the PS5 logo at CES 2020, but we have seen plenty of gaming-related patents emerge lately, which gave us an idea of what Sony’s next-gen gaming experience might look like.

While there’s no way to prove these inventions will be available as soon as the PS5 launches, the patents certainly show that Sony is thinking outside the box for the PlayStation 5. Just the other day we talked about two such patents that described controller innovations that would make the PS5 stand out when compared to the Xbox. Now, a new discovery reveals that one of Sony’s proposed ideas would add a crazy futuristic layer to the PlayStation 5 gaming experience.
