Samsung has grossly exaggerated the fix for one of the Galaxy Fold’s biggest flaws

“We pushed mobile engineering to its limits to create,” the Galaxy Z Flip said Samsung’s head of UK product marketing Rebecca Hirst on stage last week during the Z Flip and S20 launch event. “And none of it would have been possible without our new one-of-a-kind, hideaway hinge,” she continued as the video behind her showed the hinge in action. “The hinge is the backbone of any folding phone. It quite literally holds the whole thing together, and it also prevents particles like dust and sand from getting into the phone and damaging the display,” the exec continued, as the animation shifted to a video showing Samsung’s innovative brush that should prevent said particles from getting inside the phone. “That’s because folding phones have a tiny gap between the hinge and the device,” Hirst continued, which was an interesting thing to remark given that it perfectly described one of the Galaxy Fold’s main problems. “We created a layer of fibers inside that tiny gap to keep those particles out,” she said. “This secure fiber shield protects your phone, so you can make the most of this revolutionary technology.” Unless it doesn’t really hold dust out, and this is just a gross exaggeration of the Flip’s ability to prevent dust ingress.

Motorola responds to Razr’s peeling display without really explaining anything at all

%name Motorola responds to Razr’s peeling display without really explaining anything at all by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

You should have exactly zero reasons to buy the Motorola Razr now that the Galaxy Z Flip is out. Samsung has a cheaper, faster, more durable foldable clamshell than Motorola, and while the Flip is not the perfect foldable, it’s still a much reasonable choice than the Razr. If you’re still interested in the Razr over the Flip, then you should be aware of Motorola’s most recent update on the phone, which followed an unusual accident. A reviewer’s Razr’s display started peeling at the hinge, a phenomenon that rendered the display under the peeled-off area useless. Motorola has addressed the matter, saying the screen shouldn’t peel under normal usage conditions.

BGR has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. BGR and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

Please note: the offers mentioned below are subject to change at any time and some may no longer be available.

  • Southwest’s business credit card has an elevated sign-up bonus.
  • If you sign up now for the card, you can earn up to 100,000 Southwest Rapid Rewards points.

Relying on plastic is pretty much a way of life for businesses that need to charge expenses, often big expenses, on a regular basis, and the same way individual consumers have a dizzying array of personal cards to choose from, many issuers likewise offer variants of their card products tailored specifically to businesspeople. They all feature varying incentives, perks, and bonus rewards, and depending on your personal circumstances there are some it makes sense to take a closer look at and others to ignore altogether. For example, if you’re a business owner who also regularly flies Southwest, it might be time to consider the budget airline’s Southwest Rapid Rewards Performance Business Credit Card, if you haven’t already, given that it’s running a pretty generous elevated welcome offer right now.

Dinosaur print mystery finally solved after half century

%name Dinosaur print mystery finally solved after half century by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Finding dinosaur footprints can be exciting for any scientist. Finding them in a unique place just adds to the fun, but when a set of fossilized footprints was spotted on the ceiling of a cave in Australia, it sparked a decades-long mystery that was only just recently solved.

As HeritageDaily reports, the fossilized footprints were discovered on the ceiling of a cave near the town of Mount Morgan. It’s a dinosaur footprint fossil hot spot, but when some of the tracks seemed to indicate dinosaurs walking upside down, researchers were left shaking their heads and searching for answers.

Apple Watch update includes important heart rate bug fix

%name Apple Watch update includes important heart rate bug fix by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

While it may seem a bit trite to say that the Apple Watch saves lives, that’s exactly what Apple’s increasingly popular wearable does. Over the past few years, we’ve seen a number of stories involving the device’s heart rate monitor alerting users to potentially life-threatening conditions. Consequently, some insurance companies have gone so far as to subsidize the cost of an Apple Watch for its members.

Here’s why foldable phone displays can be scratched so easily

%name Here’s why foldable phone displays can be scratched so easily by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

As exciting as foldable devices might be, the hard truth right now is that smartphone makers are in no position to manufacture glass that can bend over and over without breaking. The Galaxy Fold, Huawei Mate X, Motorola Razr, and Galaxy Z Flip feature fragile screens that break easier than traditional smartphone displays.

The Z Flip is causing a stir, as it happens to be the world’s only foldable phone to feature a foldable screen made of glass rather than a transparent polymer. Yet, durability tests suggest that Samsung may have been generous with its Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) claims. It turns out that the Galaxy Z Flip does have a glass screen, but that display is covered by a plastic film that’s meant to protect the glass. And such contraptions won’t go away anytime soon.

NASA missed these 11 dangerous asteroids, but an AI caught them

%name NASA missed these 11 dangerous asteroids, but an AI caught them by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

There are lots and lots of space rocks hanging out in our solar system. Most of them will never pose a threat to our planet, but a very tiny percentage will indeed come close. Inevitably, Earth will be on a collision course with a dangerous asteroid at some point in the future, and identifying the objects that pose threats is a very big deal.

Modern telescopes and other observational tools can give astronomers a good idea of which rocks are headed our way, but relying on humans to scour for these possibly dangerous asteroids means that some may be overlooked and missed entirely. To see just how many possibly dangerous asteroids we’ve been missing, researchers from the Netherlands built an AI network to analyze the data and see what it could find.

Behold, this might be our first look at a truly incredible Galaxy Note 20 display

%name Behold, this might be our first look at a truly incredible Galaxy Note 20 display by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s still only been a matter of days since Samsung unveiled its new Galaxy S20 phone series, at an event during which the company also showed off its new Galaxy Z Flip phones, but already anticipation is building for Samsung’s next big product announcement that looks to be coming this summer. According to one leaker, the successor device to last year’s Galaxy Fold will “likely” launch around July, close to the same time as the forthcoming Galaxy Note 20.

These are both interesting devices to watch, for reasons that include speculation from industry watchers as reported by The Korea Herald that … well, that the new Fold might eventually replace the Note. Meanwhile, a new leak reveals that Samsung may at least be planning something pretty cool for the Note 20, which is expected to be announced in a matter of months. A new patent filing (via PatentlyMobile) reveals that Samsung is working on an all-new curved display that could wrap around the phone’s edges. Physical buttons like the volume button are also incorporated into this proposed curved screen.

‘Morbius’ plot leak reveals how Sony’s ‘Spider-Man’ spin-off connects to Marvel’s MCU

%name ‘Morbius’ plot leak reveals how Sony’s ‘Spider Man’ spin off connects to Marvel’s MCU by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Soon after Spider-Man: Far From Home premiered, fans of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe learned the bad news. Disney and Sony were not able to secure a new deal for Spider-Man’s prolonged use in the MCU, so they were going to part ways. Sony, reports said, would build its own cinematic universe, eager to prove that it doesn’t need Marvel’s other heroes to make billion-dollar films, and Marvel would just move forward with its own Phase 4 plans, which don’t need to include Spider-Man. The two giants ultimately made peace and the new contract reportedly allows Marvel to use Tom Holland’s Peter Parker for two more films, including Spider-Man 3, which launches next year, and a secret crossover film that might as well be an Avengers sequel.

More interestingly, reports said that the new deal would allow both studios to use Parker and his rogue’s gallery without worrying about what would happen in the other universe. Therefore, Sony would be able to make references to MCU events, while Marvel could use content from the in-development Spider-Verse. A few weeks ago, we got the first trailer for Morbius, Sony’s next film in the Spider-Verse, and it turns out Sony is including plenty of MCU references in the movie, references that will probably help attract an audience. Soon after the trailers aired, a leaker posted the full plot for the movie, which includes all the subtle and not-so-subtle ways the film will reference the MCU and Spider-Man. If you hate spoilers, now’s the time to avoid the huge leak below.
