Dr. Fauci has some good news about a coronavirus vaccine

  • Dr. Anthony Fauci said that he’s “cautiously optimistic” about the coronavirus vaccine Moderna is working on.
  • The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) is one of Moderna’s partners on the COVID-19 drug, but the agency has been quiet this week on the heels of Moderna’s preliminary announcement.
  • Fauci explained that the COVID-19 vaccine candidate proved to be safe for test subjects and effective, meaning it was able to train the immune system to develop the neutralizing antibodies that could stop the novel coronavirus from reaching cells.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

NIAID director Dr. Anthony Fauci is one of the leading and most popular members of the White House Coronavirus Task Force. Fauci routinely appears on TV and in interviews to detail various efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19 and find a cure for the novel coronavirus. The doctor has spoken about the viability of vaccines on several occasions, most recently saying that the first vaccine could be just a few months away. He also authored a paper together with other health experts detailing a plan for this particular type of COVID-19 drug, where they said that a single vaccine might not be enough for the world’s needs.

Moderna’s vaccine candidate was the first to reach Phase 1 human trials a few months ago, and the company delivered its early results on the matter earlier this week. At the time, NIAID did not express an opinion on the issue, but now Fauci says he’s cautiously optimistic.

TSA is making 3 changes to stop coronavirus from spreading on planes

%name TSA is making 3 changes to stop coronavirus from spreading on planes by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The COVID-19 coronavirus’ US impact continues to be felt far and wide, with few industries impacted by the outbreak of the pandemic as much as hospitality and travel.
  • As Americans gear up to celebrate Memorial Day this weekend, some travelers will want to get out of the house finally — and, more specifically, to actually get out of town.
  • Here are some of the coronavirus-related changes you can expect from the TSA if your travels include a flight this weekend.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Travel industry professionals are especially keen to see how the next several days unfold, both to see whether the Memorial Day weekend brings an uptick in travelers deciding to hit the road or take to the skies — and, also, what kind of effect that will have on the COVID-19 coronavirus’ US toll.

Already, we’ve heard horror stories about the dystopian-sounding experiences that some fliers are having, including the sight of flight attendants in hazmat suits. In preparation for making cabins safe for fliers and airline employees alike, carriers have resorted to measures including flying at reduced capacity, keeping middle seats open, stepping up cleaning procedures, and requiring employees and fliers to wear face masks. But the coronavirus-related changes you’ll encounter if you plan to head out of town this weekend extend well beyond the plane’s cabin, with the TSA having also just announced several new procedures it’s starting to roll out to keep everyone safe from the virus that’s now infected almost 1.6 million people in the US as of the time of this writing.

Protein bars are perfect for a quick bite when you’re in a rush. They’re also packed full of nutrition unlike most quick and easy snacks people eat, and they’re actually quite filling so you don’t have to worry about wanting a snack a few hours later.

There are plenty of options out there for good protein bars these days. Some taste better than others, but they’ve come a long way in recent years, generally speaking. Finding one that tastes decent used to be a daunting task, but now you’ll find that most of the popular options out there taste okay. Now, if you want something that tastes absolutely delicious and still has all the protein you need without all the carbs, you want Quest Hero Bars.

When I tell you that Hero bars are delicious, I’m not exaggerating at all. They’re not just tasty when compared to other protein bars, they’re tasty, period. Quest’s Hero bars use a sweetener called allulose that’s made from sugar and tastes like sugar. Your body doesn’t metabolize it like sugar though so it doesn’t have all the carbs and calories associated with sugar.

Head over to Amazon right now and you’ll find the two very best flavors, Quest Nutrition Blueberry Cobbler Hero Protein Bars and Quest Nutrition Chocolate Caramel Pecan Hero Protein Bars, both available with a special deal. Buy one buy at full price and you can save 25% on a second box! Each box contains 10 bars but trust us, they won’t last long when you realize how delicious they are. Also, you can buy one box of each flavor and still get the discount, and there are even some other types of protein bars that are eligible for the deal. The Chocolate Peanut Butter flavor Hero bars are in stock rigth now as well and available for $19.98 per box, but they’re not eligible for the 25% off deal.

The past few months have been fantastic in terms of new additions to Netflix’s ever-expanding catalog of content, and June 2020 is going to be more of the same.

We already shared Netflix’s full schedule of June 2020 additions including third-party movies and shows, and you can see the entire schedule right here. There are some particularly good movies from other studios set to hit Netflix right away on June 1st, including fan favorites like Clueless, The Silence of the Lambs, V for Vendetta, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. KN95 masks are actually in stock today at Amazon – but not for long

%name KN95 masks are actually in stock today at Amazon – but not for long by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • So many people are looking for N95 masks for sale in light of the fact that the CDC recommends we all should wear face masks anytime we leave our homes.
  • Of course, the CDC also says we shouldn’t buy N95 face masks because hospital workers and other people on the front lines of the fight against the novel coronavirus have a much greater need.
  • If you want extra protection without buying price-gouged N95 masks and taking resources away from hospitals, Amazon has KN95 face masks in stock right now.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

When it comes to combating the spread of the novel coronavirus, Jointown 3-layer face masks are still by far the most popular option among our readers. Thousands and thousands of people buy them each week because we all know that the novel coronavirus isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. Actually, the very fact that states are beginning to reopen nonessential businesses far too soon basically guarantees that the inevitable coronavirus second wave will come sooner than expected. Just look at what’s happening in Texas right now and you’ll see that it’s unavoidable.

If you want to do your part to slow the spread of COVID-19 even as economies reopen, you need to do three things. First, as the CDC says right on its website, wear a mask every single time you go out of your home for any reason. Second, practice strict social distancing. And third, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer anytime you touch a surface in public. That’s it — if everyone would just do those three simple things, some studies believe the spread of the new coronavirus would be reduced by a whopping 80%.

Face Mask, Pack of 50: $34.99 ($0.70 / mask)

The Jointown face masks we mentioned above do a fine job of protecting you as long as you also practice social distancing and good hygiene. They’re also wonderfully inexpensive at just 70¢ per mask, so you should definitely stock up on a few boxes while they’re in stock. There are some higher-risk situations where you want a bit more protection though. For example, when you go shopping in a grocery store, take public transportation, or fly on an airplane. That’s why it’s also a very good idea to stock up on some KN95 face masks that you can use in those situations, but KN95 masks are much more difficult to come by these days.

10PCS Upgraded 6-Layer Protection, Mouth Cover,Suitable for Adult,US Stock: $31.99 ($3.20 / mask)

There’s no question that they’ll sell out soon, but Athphy KN95 face masks are somehow back in stock right now at Amazon. It has been about a month since we last saw them and they flew off the shelves back then. These face masks feature four layers of protection and are rated to filter 95% or more of microscopic airborne particles out of the air we breathe. You absolutely still need to practice strict social distancing and good hygiene, but these masks are great for some added peace of mind in higher-risk situations.

Athphy KN95 face masks are priced at $3.20 each right now on Amazon when you buy a box of 20, and they’re in stock so they’ll be delivered next week. Shipping times will start to slip very quickly now that the cat’s out of the bag though, so order a box or two now before they inevitably sell out.

10PCS Upgraded 6-Layer Protection, Mouth Cover,Suitable for Adult,US Stock: $31.99 ($3.20 / mask)

UPDATE: The masks we initially linked are now sold out, but a popular alternative is back in stock at an even lower price with faster shipping!

Pixel 5 release date reportedly delayed

%name Pixel 5 release date reportedly delayed by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The Pixel 5 release date has been postponed due to “market conditions,” a leaker said on Twitter.
  • The same person said the Pixel 4a will be unveiled in early July, more than a month later than expected, and that the phone will launch in August.
  • The Pixel 5 launch event should take place in October, considering what Google did with previous Pixel launches.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Google is struggling to sell Pixel phones, but the new Pixel phones are highly anticipated devices every year. The Pixel is the closest thing Android has to iPhone, especially the high-end models that pack flagship specs and run the latest operating system release. However, this year’s new Pixels have been delayed, a leaker said. The release dates of both the Pixel 4a and the Pixel 5 have been pushed back significantly, and the novel coronavirus health crisis is the obvious explanation for the move. The evolution of the pandemic is expected to impact the iPhone 12 launch as well and might hurt other new products supposed to launch this year, including the Xbox Series X and PS5 consoles.

Bumblebees can trick plants into flowering early

  • There’s a secret bumblebee trick that can trigger plants to flower a month earlier than they would otherwise.
  • Researchers in Switzerland discovered that when bumblebees chew a specific pattern into the leaves of a plant, it flowers up to 30 days early.
  • Attempts to replicate the phenomenon by damaging the plants in a similar manner didn’t work.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Bumblebees are pretty cool. They’re not nasty like wasps, and while they can sting if they are threatened, they’re usually content to just live their lives and avoid humans as much as possible. Now, a new study published in Science reveals a secret trick that bumblebees use to fool plants into flowering early. This makes them even cooler.

The research, which was conducted by scientists in Switzerland, blows the lid off of a technique the bees use when pollen is scarce. It seems all they have to do is let the plants know they’re waiting, and they do that by chewing a very specific pattern into the leaves.

Facebook just launched Messenger Rooms, a video chatting feature that works just like Zoom, and you don’t even need a Facebook account to use it.

That’s not the only new trick coming to Messenger users, though, as Facebook on Thursday announced brand new security features meant to protect users against unwanted chat requests, whether they’re from predators targeting minors or scammers looking for new victims. The new features are powered by machine learning, and they will work even after Messenger gets end-to-end encryption.
