Apple rumored to launch a cheaper version of its AirPods Pro

%name Apple rumored to launch a cheaper version of its AirPods Pro by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

There’s no question that the AirPods are the most successful product Apple made in the past few years. Apple’s wearable earphones that you’ve seen everywhere are the most popular product in this category. Not to mention that everyone else in the industry is copying Apple. Like Apple, Android vendors started killing the headphone jack and simultaneously launch wireless earphones of their own. Even Samsung, the last knight defending the honor of the 3.5mm port had to admit defeat, as it just launched a Galaxy S20 phone that has no room for an old audio port.

On top of that, it upgraded its own earphones to better fight the AirPods Pro. That’s because Apple kept improving the AirPods over the years, giving consumers more choices at different price tags. The Pro is the most expensive version of the AirPods. Then there’s the model that features a charging case that supports wireless charging. The cheapest AirPods model is the original one, which features a wired charging case. However, the earphones themselves offer the same sound performance as the ones packed inside the wireless charging case. They’re all second-gen earbuds. So, where would a Lite version of the AirPods Pro fit?

The Galaxy Z Flip looks awesome, but is Google making a foldable Pixel that’s even better?

A few days before Samsung’s Galaxy S20 announcement event, Google also started teasing the Unpacked event, suggesting that it’ll show up on stage to announce some sort of new partnership. It had to be all connected to the Galaxy Z Flip, a new foldable Samsung was supposed to launch. Then came the Oscars, where Samsung actually showed off the unannounced clamshell device, complete with its new video chat in laptop mode feature. That was another indication that Google would help Android behave that way. It turns out that Google did show up at Unpacked. Google’s senior vice president of platforms and ecosystem Hiroshi Lockheimer talked about the strong Samsung-Google partnership over the years and announced the various features the S20 series will get, including the built-in Google Duo video chat, and the exciting Live Caption video caption functionality that was a Pixel exclusive so far. More importantly, Google also helped with the Z Flip’s split-screen mode feature that makes the whole laptop mode possible. So, is Google making a Pixel that folds?

Samsung phones may soon be the device of choice for Netflix super-fans

%name Samsung phones may soon be the device of choice for Netflix super fans by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Back in October, when Netflix premiered the Breaking Bad sequel movie El Camino on the streaming service, it gave fans of the franchise hungry for more content a satisfying conclusion to the storyline about Jesse Pinkman’s unresolved future — specifically focused on what happened after he escaped the clutches of the neo-Nazi gang and got finally free, too, of Walter White.

Meanwhile, unless you were at a specific viewing party in New York City on the movie’s release day of October 11, you might have missed a sidenote to the movie’s release. It involved the kicking off of a deeper partnership between Samsung and the streamer (which I wrote about at the time here), one that started with the release of the movie and was touted to eventually include everything from a custom Samsung TV channel to viewing parties and other events. That Friday, Samsung and Netflix hosted a joint El Camino viewing party for fans and Samsung Smart TV owners at Samsung 837 in New York, a screening that included a three-story Samsung display to show the film on, as well as immersive photo installations inspired by the movie’s set pieces, including a replica El Camino car. Beyond that, I wondered what else might be in store as a result of this partnership — and on Tuesday, during Samsung’s Unpacked event at which it showed off new Galaxy S20 phones and Galaxy Buds Plus earbuds, as well as the new Galaxy Z Flip phone, Samsung provided an answer.

Oh good, there’s a new virus in Brazil that scientists can’t even recognize

%name Oh good, there’s a new virus in Brazil that scientists can’t even recognize by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Researchers in Brazil have discovered an entirely new kind of virus that is so foreign to science that not even its genes have been previously identified. The virus, which is described in a new research paper, was found in a Brazilian lake in the city of Belo Horizonte.

As ScienceAlert reports, the virus has been named Yaravirus in honor of a Brazilian mythological figure known as “Iara,” and it’s posing an exciting challenge for researchers who are working to better understand its genome. The virus doesn’t qualify as a “giant virus,” which the international research team has discovered before, but it’s still incredibly unique.

The sleazy move from this cable company just reminds me again why I cut the cord

%name The sleazy move from this cable company just reminds me again why I cut the cord by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I really hope this kind of practice doesn’t catch on among cable companies, but knowing the industry and how much they screw customers, it probably will eventually. We’re referring, specifically, to the surprise price increase this month for many customers of Optimum, the Altice subsidiary that offers TV, high-speed Internet, phone and Wi-Fi service in states including Pennsylvania, New York, and New Jersey. And to the infuriating way that new increase was communicated to customers.

The price hike came as a surprise to many of them because Optimum decided to announce it in arguably a pretty sneaky way. Per Consumer Reports, many of the customers missed the news that the price of their TV plans was climbing by as much as $30 per month (as well as Internet service going up in some cases by $25 per month) because it was buried within a section of monthly bills that includes updates which most consumers don’t read closely. So how’s that for a new cable industry trend? Lean on our remaining customers for even more money — and hope they don’t notice.

Motorola’s brand new Razr gets torched in early review

%name Motorola’s brand new Razr gets torched in early review by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

When the original Motorola Razr hit the market back in 2004, the impact was immediate and pronounced. Boasting an incredibly thin design, the Razr was remarkably sleek and quickly became something of a phenomenon. The Razr would go on to become one of the best-selling mobile phones in history, though the device ultimately became nothing more than a relic once the iPhone ushered in a new era of smartphone innovation.

Fast forward to 2020 and Motorola is hoping to leverage the nostalgia associated with the Razr name with a new foldable smartphone it’s calling — yes, you guessed it — the Razr.

New ‘Reaper of Death’ dinosaur species found in Canada

%name New ‘Reaper of Death’ dinosaur species found in Canada by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Decades of science fiction has taught us that the Tyrannosaurus rex was the mighty king of the dinosaurs, but researchers now believe that the most iconic dino may have been more of a scavenger than a hunter. Nevertheless, the Tyrannosaurus family is full of interesting creatures, and thanks to paleontologists in Canada, that family just got a little bit larger.

A team of researchers studying fossils located in Alberta, Canada, have identified what is believed to be an entirely new member of the Tyrannosaurus family, and it may have been significantly more fearsome than the T. rex we’re all so familiar with.

Have you ever thought about whisking away your loved one for a sudden romantic getaway, just the two of you, the way they do in the movies? The whole, pack-your-bags-honey-we’re-going-away-for-the-weekend routine? There’s probably not a more perfect time to do that than this weekend, with Valentine’s Day coming up on Friday. And especially for those of you waiting until the last minute to pick out a gift — this is the kind of that would make you look like the ultimate romantic hero. Which is no doubt why Southwest Airlines has just kicked off yet another massive fare sale, with flights as low as $39.

They’re not all discounted to that degree, but there’s still an abundance of great deals pretty much across the board. It’s gotten to the point where I’m happy to be paying under a grand, total, for flights for two people these days — and, of course, everything you’ll find here is pretty much a fraction of that.

WHO gives coronavirus a new name

You’ve been seeing the word “coronavirus” all over the news lately, and for good reason. The new strain of the virus that was traced to China has now claimed over 1,000 lives and has infected tens of thousands of people.

But there are different strains of coronavirus, so an official name makes sense if we want to differentiate this particular outbreak from other varieties of the same virus. The World Health Organization finally got around to naming this particular strain of coronavirus, so say hello to Covid-19.
