Awards season always feels like it goes a week or two longer than it should every year, but, at long last, it’s coming to an end this weekend with the Academy Awards. The 92nd edition of the awards ceremony takes place this Sunday in Los Angeles, where 1917 will attempt to follow up it Golden Globe for Best Drama with an Oscar, while a dark horse candidate, Parasite, tries to become the first South Korean movie to win Best Picture.

The ceremony will air on Sunday, February 9th at 8 PM ET / 5 PM PT on ABC. If you have cable, all you need to do is change the channel on Sunday night and settle in. If not, then keep reading, and we’ll explain all of your options when it comes to watching or streaming the Oscars this weekend, of which there are plenty.

Check out this new Netflix fantasy series while you wait for ‘Stranger Things’ to return

If you’re one of the longtime fans of Locke & Key, the comic book series with a devoted following from illustrator Gabe Rodriguez and writer Joe Hill (the son of Stephen King), you were finally treated to a long-awaited, oft-delayed reward this weekend: A small-screen adaptation, at last, of the comic series that has been in the works, off and on, for a few years now, bouncing between a number of platforms before ultimately arriving as, in the opinion of this writer, a satisfying and family-friend fantasy series now streaming on Netflix.

The series follows three siblings in the wake of their father’s murder. They move, along with their mother, to their family’s ancestral home, which they slowly come to realize hides a set of magic keys that bestow upon whomever wields them powerful new abilities. Why this series works — and the reason I enjoyed it, while there will be some of you who definitely won’t find this up to your liking — is that showrunners Carlton Cuse and Meredith Averill (who’ve had a hand in producing some of the best TV in years between them, but more on that in a moment) decided to move away from the comics’ emphasis on horror and tilt the whole thing more toward fantasy in the adaptation they produced. The idea, Cuse explained to me, was to make this something that would appeal to families, and to anyone who’s a fan of things like Steven Spielberg’s blockbusters and the Harry Potter film franchise. That may not be you, and that’s okay. A number of early reviews (like these) have found the series plenty satisfying for that reason — it’s in the same ballpark as Stranger Things, but definitely not as dark and violent — and Cuse and Averill believe in the show enough that they’re already working on a Season 2, and we caught up with both of them to talk about the show.

After a fairly quiet week last week, Netflix is picking it up again over the few days with a range of quality content. Up first is the fourth season of Better Call Saul, which actually returns for its fifth (and penultimate) season in just a few weeks. The second season of Narcos: Mexico debuts this week as well.

As for movies, the sequel to To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is likely at the top of the list for many viewers, but I am most excited to finally watch Good Time, which is the movie Josh and Benny Safdie directly immediately before Uncut Gems, and is said to feature one of Robert Pattinson’s best performances.

Lucky for you, there are three big sales right now on Amazon that will help you knock out your Valentine’s Day shopping in just a few minutes, and you’ll end up getting her (or him) something she (or he) will actually like instead of just flowers and some crummy chocolates.

First up is the massive sale Amazon is running right now on pretty much every popular Amazon device out there. Radiation-hungry fungi found in Chernobyl reactor could save astronauts

%name Radiation hungry fungi found in Chernobyl reactor could save astronauts by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The nuclear reactor meltdown at Chernobyl was a devastating blow to the region, forcing mass evacuations and necessitating a cleanup effort that remains ongoing to this day. It was a tragedy, but over the years it’s produced some very interesting scientific opportunities, and one of the most intriguing came with the discovery of a type of fungi that had started to make a home inside the destroyed reactor.

First discovered way back in the early 1990s, the fungi became the focus of study for researchers who wanted to learn more about how it survived in the intense radiation of the failed reactor. As it turns out, the fungi didn’t just tolerate the radiation, they absolutely loved it and had actually found a way to use the radiation as energy for growth.

Last chance: Southwest Airlines’ highest-ever credit card sign-up bonus is about to go away

%name Last chance: Southwest Airlines’ highest ever credit card sign up bonus is about to go away by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

BGR has partnered with The Points Guy for our coverage of credit card products. BGR and The Points Guy may receive a commission from card issuers.

Please note: The Southwest offers on this page expire on Monday, February 10.

I don’t know about you all, but I’m already making plans for my next vacation and trip out of town. Yes, it’s only the beginning of the year, the weather is miserable in some places and this isn’t exactly vacation season yet. But that hasn’t stopped myriad air carriers from going ahead and rolling out stunningly low discounts and fare sales in recent days. And if that wasn’t enough, Southwest Airlines is currently promoting a limited-time offer covering all of its personal credit cards — an offer that includes the carrier’s biggest card sign-up bonus ever.

The offer: 40,000 points after you’ve spent $1,000 on purchases with the card within your first three months. And if you manage to spend $5,000 within your first six months of card ownership, you’ll score an extra 35,000 points — so, 75,000 points in total, which is Southwest’s highest-ever sign-up bonus. You can earn either or both of those points tiers, and these are the cards the offer applies to: The Southwest Rapid Rewards Plus Credit Card, Southwest Rapid Rewards Premier Credit Card and Southwest Rapid Rewards Priority Credit Card (NOTE: As specified above, this offer expires on Monday, February 10).
