Disney+ digital gift cards go live right in time for Christmas

%name Disney+ digital gift cards go live right in time for Christmas by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Disney+ is easily one of the hottest products of the year, with more than 10 million people having subscribed to the service in time for launch last month. Disney’s early deals certainly helped with that, although the $6.99 monthly fee is already a great deal on its own, especially when you compare it with Netflix and other video streaming option — the price is actually even lower if you buy a full year of access for $69.99. And if you were wondering whether you can actually gift people an entire year of Disney+ streaming for Christmas, the good news is that you sure can.

%name A top insider just leaked Samsung’s launch date for the Galaxy S11 and Galaxy Fold 2 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Galaxy S11 rumors season is in full swing, and we already have plenty of details about Samsung’s next flagship. The purported design of the new handset has already leaked, with some reports saying Samsung will have as many as five different S11 versions, including Galaxy S11e and Plus flavors, all sporting the same looks paired with different camera systems on the back. The Snapdragon 865 processor that will power 2020 Android flagships is already official, and Qualcomm already revealed what type of features the new chip will power. Unsurprisingly, the list of 865 features includes support for 5G, high-refresh-rate displays and up to 200-megapixel cameras, and the Galaxy S11 is rumored to pack 120Hz screens and a brand new 108-megapixel primary camera. Moreover, the S11 line will include multiple 5G-ready devices, according to reports. We also have a pretty good idea of when to expect the Galaxy S11 in stores, given Samsung’s history with the series, and an insider thinks he knows the actual announcement date.

Arizona man arrested after trying to break into home and getting stuck in the chimney

When neighbors heard screams coming from a vacant house in a neighborhood in Tuscon, Arizona, last Friday, they weren’t sure what to expect. A man’s voice pleading for help led witnesses to call 911, prompting a visit from the police who entered the home and found a man in his mid-30s dangling helplessly from the inside of the home’s chimney.

According to a report from local news outlet KGUN, the man wasn’t the homeowner, but rather a vandal who had apparently attempted to enter the home without anyone knowing. Somehow, the story gets even more bizarre.

More than 26 million people watched Netflix’s ‘The Irishman’ in its first week

There are a few guaranteed, take-it-to-the-bank certainties in life that are always the same and constant — things like death and taxes. The changing of the seasons. Also, the truism that when Martin Scorsese makes another movie about the mob, and when he packs the cast with stars like Joe Pesci, Robert De Niro, and Al Pacino, it will spark endless debates about where it fits into his pantheon of great films. It’s also guaranteed to attract a ton of eyeballs. No matter how long it is (three-and-a-half hours in the case of The Irishman — aka, at least a one-, and maybe a two bathroom-break movie), and no matter where it’s shown (in theaters for a limited run, but mostly on Netflix).

On the heels of picking up a fantastic haul of Golden Globe nominations on Monday (34 total, including five for The Irishman), Netflix chief content officer Ted Sarandos on Tuesday shared some incredible viewership numbers for the streamer’s much-buzzed-about Scorsese movies while at a conference in New York.

Tim Cook says he doesn’t want iPhones to be what Apple is remembered for

Ask Apple CEO Tim Cook what he hopes the legacy of the storied technology company will be, and the answer he gives might surprise some people. Because, in his mind, he thinks it should be about something besides the iPhone, upon which so much of the company’s fortunes still depend and which remains an immensely important gadget to Apple.

In a new interview on Tuesday with the Nikkei news service in Japan, however, Cook offered up something else entirely, in response to the legacy question. “If you ask me what Apple’s greatest contribution to humankind was, it will be in the health care area,” he said, highlighting the Apple Watch with its groundbreaking electrocardiogram feature which lets users get an ECG reading right from their wrist. “It’s really only a few people that have an ECG per year, a very small percentage of the population.” Now, he continued, that convenience offers the potential to change — and potentially save — lives.

Even a little alcohol can raise your risk of getting cancer, study finds

%name Even a little alcohol can raise your risk of getting cancer, study finds by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Over the years, there has been no shortage of studies focused on alcohol consumption. Some studies suggest there are benefits to moderate consumption of alcohol on a regular or semi-regular basis, while others warn of the many potential dangers. A new study published in the journal Cancer falls squarely in the latter category.

The research, which was published Monday, December 9th, focused on the impact of regular alcohol consumption on the risk of developing cancer. Unfortunately for those of us who enjoy a cocktail here and there, even casual drinking on a limited basis seems to be tied to an increase in cancer.

Deadpool’s MCU debut might happen as soon as Phase 4, but not in the way you think

%name Deadpool’s MCU debut might happen as soon as Phase 4, but not in the way you think by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Disney buying Fox is one of the best things that could have happened to Marvel’s MCU, as all the properties Fox owns the rights to have been brought back home. The X-Men and Fantastic Four heroes and villains are all game for the MCU now that Disney controls everything, and, best of all, Deadpool is also joining the MCU.

Deadpool is the only character whose journey so far will remain unchanged. Marvel will bring the Merc with a Mouth over to the MCU and keep in place everything we loved about the character. The question is: When will we see Deadpool in an MCU film? Plenty of reports said recently that a Deadpool 3 announcement may be imminent, but that the film likely won’t arrive until Phase 5. After all, Marvel already unveiled its plans for Phase 4, and there’s no space for a Deadpool standalone film. But a new report claims that Deadpool could be introduced as soon as 2021, in a totally unexpected way.

Apple just made it even easier to buy a new iPhone

%name Apple just made it even easier to buy a new iPhone by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Four months after Apple launched its new credit card product Apple Card, the iPhone maker is now offering a financing plan that lets customers use the card to buy their next iPhone and pay for it in installments over two years, interest-free.

Here’s how it works: When you use Apple Card to buy an iPhone utilizing this financing plan which launches in the US today, your monthly interest-free minimum payment will get lumped into your overall monthly minimum Apple Card payment in the iPhone’s Wallet app. The thinking is that Apple might be able to spur more sales this way, via a recurring bill instead of a major lump-sum purchase.

In tandem with the launch of the financing plan, Apple also announced a related sweetener: The company says it will start offering a 6% discount on purchases made using Apple Card at its stores through the end of this month.

Netflix could lose millions of subscribers as rivals continue to pick up steam

%name Netflix could lose millions of subscribers as rivals continue to pick up steam by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

For years now, the value proposition offered by Netflix has been absolutely incredible. Even with a string of price increases over the years, the ability to enjoy a wildly large library of quality content for as little as $8.99 remains a remarkable deal. In turn, it’s no surprise that Netflix’s subscriber base, over the last three years alone, jumped from 86 million to 158 million.

The success of Netflix, however, spawned a new battleground for consumer attention in the media space. It’s certainly an interesting development, especially given that Netflix not too long ago was on a path towards total streaming domination. Today, however, Netflix is facing stiff competition on all fronts as companies like Amazon, HBO, Disney, Hulu, and even Apple are trying to slowly but surely chip away at Netflix’s subscriber base.
