Apple’s true wireless earbuds went on sale at their lowest prices ever during this year’s big Black Friday and Cyber Monday blowout sales, and they were easily the best-selling headphones we covered. The deals covered both versions of Apple’s regular AirPods as well as the hot new AirPods Pro, but interestingly, the Pro model wasn’t the first to sell out. A variety of reports said in the weeks leading to the iPhone 11 event that Apple might bring back Touch ID to the iPhone in the coming years. Mink-Chi Kuo said in early August that Apple will pack both Touch ID and Face ID in 2021 iPhones. Separately, the leaker said Apple will launch an iPhone SE 2 next year, a model that will recycle the iPhone 8 design, fingerprint sensor included. In his most recent note to consumers, the analyst said that one of the 2021 iPhones could ship with an in-display fingerprint sensor, but no Face ID. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said in early September that Apple plans to launch an iPhone with an in-display Touch ID sensor as soon as next year. While both these insiders have provided accurate insight in the past when it comes to unreleased Apple products, and especially the iPhone, we have reason to believe the iPhone 12 could indeed feature Touch ID support in addition to Face ID.

Samsung hasn’t made too much of an effort to keep its Galaxy S and Galaxy Note devices secret, and we knew everything about the latest models well ahead of the official press conference. Galaxy S and Note leaks were never as bad as what happened with Google’s Pixel 3 and Pixel 4, but they certainly answered most of our questions. Fast-forward to early December 2019, and we already know a bunch of things about the Galaxy S11 series that will be unveiled in some three months at the earliest. Recent leaks showed the phone’s design and mentioned several of the phones’ hardware. Nothing could be confirmed, of course, no matter how trusted the sources might be. But we now have two brand new reports that mention the phone’s key specs. And, thanks to a new development, we have every reason to believe they’re the real deal.

In late 2018, a Chinese genetics researcher named He Jiankui announced that he had genetically modified babies that were then carried to term and born. As far as anyone knows, this is the first time any scientist had done such a thing, and it led to an intense outcry from the scientific community. The scientist was fired from his position and it’s unclear if he’ll face further punishment from the Chinese government.

In the months since his announcement, the focus has shifted to the twin girls who were born with modified genes. Now, over a year later, some of the original research documentation has been released by MIT Technology Review, which notes that it received the unpublished manuscript months ago, and has finally chosen to release part of it.

On the surface, McDonald’s and Ford don’t appear to have much in common. They’re both huge corporations, sure, but they’re worlds apart in terms of their product offerings. That’s what makes the new collaboration between the two giants so strange, but also incredibly cool.

As Ford explains in a press release issued today, McDonald’s produces “millions of pounds” of coffee chaff per year. Chaff is a flaky byproduct of the roasting process coffee beans undergo before they are ground and used to make the fast food chain’s various coffee drinks. Normally it goes to waste, but Ford has a better idea.

NASA started off the year strong with big news from its OSIRIS-REx asteroid probe. In early January, NASA celebrated the successful insertion of the probe in an orbit around the space rock known as Bennu. The year since that milestone has been filled with interesting observations and a whole lot of lovely photos, but one of the most puzzling features of Bennu may finally have an explanation.

It wasn’t long after OSIRIS-REx began returning observations of Bennu that researchers spotted something bizarre. The asteroid seemed to be flinging pieces of itself around, with particles launching from the asteroid’s surface and eventually settling back down on new areas of the rock.
