The next gaming consoles are the talk of the town right now, even though they’ll be hitting stores during next year’s holiday season. The PlayStation 5 has been featured in an increasing number of leaks in the past few months, while Microsoft offered fans more details about Project Scarlett. Neither company, however, is ready to announce actual availability details, and the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett designs are still a mystery. However, a leaker claims to know the actual launch details of both devices, and if it’s accurate, it’s great news.

The next Xbox will have a major feature the PS5 can’t match

Most console rumors out there focus on Sony’s upcoming PlayStation 5 device, but gamers shouldn’t forget that Microsoft is also working on a very similar device. Called Project Scarlett for the time being, the console is going to rock exactly the same hardware as the PS5. That’s because both Microsoft and Sony will source custom chips from AMD. When it comes to price, Xbox Scarlett should be just as affordable as the PS5, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer said recently, without divulging any pricing secrets. And we already know that Sony wants to price the PS5 right, so the cost won’t hinder adoption. In the past few months, we learned that Sony might be working on an impressive PS5 feature that might not have an Xbox equivalent, and now we’ll tell you about a confirmed Xbox Scarlett feature that you won’t get on the PS5.

If aliens exist, their home systems may be totally unlike our own

%name If aliens exist, their home systems may be totally unlike our own by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Earth is the only planet we know of that currently hosts life in any form. Because of that, it’s tempting to assume that, in the search for extraterrestrial life, we should be hunting for solar systems like our own. That might not be true, and a new study suggests that if we hope to find aliens, we should be targeting systems with more than one star.

The research, which was published in the Astrophysical Journal, focused on the behavior of Earth-like worlds in binary star systems. The heart of a binary system includes two stars that orbit one another. This might not sound like an ideal place for an Earth-like planet to thrive, but computer models tell a different story.

Disney+ will soon get the must-have feature that it should have had at launch

%name Disney+ will soon get the must have feature that it should have had at launch by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Disney+ launch wasn’t perfect last week, but the service is certainly a success for Disney, with as many as 10 million users having already signed up. Disney+ is cheaper than Netflix, and already features plenty of interesting content that users got to experience from day one.

And while Disney+ does come with a feature I’ve wanted on Netflix for years, it also comes without a critical feature that I’d demand from any streaming service — one that’s been on Netflix all along.

Hibernation chambers might make space exploration a reality

%name Hibernation chambers might make space exploration a reality by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

We’ve all seen it in sci-fi space movies: Deep-space travelers cruising to a new location and sleeping for weeks, months, or even years to pass the time. In fiction, hibernation pods are a convenient plot device, but would they work here in reality?

A new research effort by the European Space Agency suggests that if we can get the technology working as intended, placing astronauts into a state of suspended animation might actually be the best way to explore the cosmos. The benefits would be many, including the option to use a much smaller spacecraft for long-haul crewed missions.

It’s still early, but Disney+ hasn’t killed Netflix yet

We’ve now reached the one-week mark since the launch of Disney+, long enough for us to start to draw some early conclusions about the hotly anticipated service that’s introduced some fantastic exclusive content (like The Mandalorian series for Star Wars fans), plus Pixar movies, Disney movies from the famed vault and so much more.

Sure, there were some launch-day technical glitches, but the streamer nevertheless quickly turned Disney fans into stans who’ve helped underscore that a moment like this is the stuff that memes are made of. On launch day, meanwhile, a new report shows that the Disney+ racked up 4 million app downloads, and as of the end of November 12 when the streamer went live it had already amassed more than 10 million subscribers.

Future Apple Watch models may feature Face ID

%name Future Apple Watch models may feature Face ID by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple this week was granted a patent for various Apple Watch technologies which might help clue us in on upcoming features Apple may add to its increasingly popular wearable. First and foremost, the patent in question details how a camera could be added to the Apple Watch. This, in turn, has sparked some speculation that it’s only a matter of time before Face ID comes to the Apple Watch. While Face ID on the Apple Watch would certainly not be used for device access as it would prove to be wholly inefficient, it could very well be used as a means of authentication when accessing sensitive data, for example.

Apple’s patent also notes that a camera, in addition to providing a means to take quick photos, could also “allow a user to capture images of nearby objects in the environment, such as a bar code or QR code.”

Samsung proudly shows off how it created the biggest smartphone blunder of 2019

Forget all the bad headlines, the botched launch that was pushed back from April to September, the expensive price tag, those early screens that crapped out after a day of usage, and all the questions about who exactly would want to buy this. Samsung remains proud of its work creating the Galaxy Fold, its first foldable smartphone with a nearly $2,000 price tag and a form factor that the company believes so strongly in that it’s going pedal to the metal and planning to ship new models and variants of it come 2020.

Indeed, Samsung is so proud of its work on the phone that the company wants to take you on a little journey behind-the-scenes, offering up a look on Tuesday at just how it is that the company designed and brought to fruition what’s arguably the biggest smartphone mistake of 2019.

SpaceX’s satellite horde is a nightmare for astronomers

%name SpaceX’s satellite horde is a nightmare for astronomers by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

SpaceX has done a lot to help scientists over the years. It’s a business, first and foremost, but by lowering the bar for satellite launches it has facilitated research that might not otherwise have been possible. Unfortunately, the company’s Starlink project is doing the exact opposite by hindering the ability of astronomers to observe the cosmos.

Starlink is SpaceX’s communications project that aims to provide satellite internet access to just about every corner of the globe. It could be a big deal, but it’s going to require many, many satellites. In fact, “many, many” is underselling things a bit.
