Most flagship smartphones these days support wireless charging and if you’re not taking advantage of it, you’re crazy. It might seem like it’s not a big deal, but there’s something so wonderfully liberating about not having to deal with cables and connectors anymore. Don’t take our word for it though, because it’s time to see for yourself with one of the best deals we’ve ever seen on a wireless charger. The Anker PowerWave Pad Fast Wireless Charger is insanely popular and it typically sells for around $15. An Amazon discount slashes that price to $10 thanks to an early Black Friday deal, but the coupon code AKSD0313 cuts it even farther to an all-time low price of just $8.99! Definitely don’t miss out on this killer deal.

Researchers prove iPhones, Android, and smart speakers have a huge security flaw that can’t be fixed

%name Researchers prove iPhones, Android, and smart speakers have a huge security flaw that can’t be fixed by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Researchers, including a person who was responsible for discovering the massive Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities that chipmakers and computer makers hurried to patch in early 2018, have discovered a huge security issue that can affect practically every smart speaker from Amazon, Google, or Apple. Apparently, you can use laser beams to target microphones the speakers, which interpret the signal as originating from voice commands. The hackers were able to perform all sorts of actions with the help of these smart devices, and there’s no real fix for the time being. All you can do is make sure your speaker isn’t facing a window, that it can’t access sensitive data or devices. Then again, it’s not like there’s any proof that anyone has been abusing the unexpected flaw. And actually making it work requires plenty of work.

The Pixel 4 hit stores only a few days ago, and just like every Pixel phone that preceded it, the phone launched with several issues that Google needs to fix — it’s a sort of Pixel tradition. Smooth Display issues and 3D Face Unlock security are two things Google confirmed it’ll fix via software updates, and the first one has just arrived, with improvements for the Pixel 4’s 90Hz display.

Guess what happened when an idiot brought a gun-shaped toilet paper roller on an airplane?

%name Guess what happened when an idiot brought a gun shaped toilet paper roller on an airplane? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Hey, so, you know that flight you have planned for the upcoming holidays? Yeah, I’m sure it’s going to be fine and everything, but one word of advice: Don’t bring anything that looks like a gun with you. I know, you shouldn’t even really have to say such a thing these days, but apparently, not everyone realizes that gun-shaped things can cause problems on planes.

Recently, the Transportation Security Administration agents at the Newark Liberty Airport in New Jersey discovered what appeared to be a gun in a traveler’s carry-on page. This, as you might imagine, set off several red flags and agents dove into the person’s luggage to see what exactly they were trying to bring onto the plane. It was not, in fact, a gun.

Netflix built a new tool for those of you burned out on politics and Trump

%name Netflix built a new tool for those of you burned out on politics and Trump by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I would like to personally extend a warm thank-you to late-night talk show host and stand-up comedian Seth Meyers, whose Netflix comedy special Lobby Baby premieres on the streamer on Tuesday.

No, the mere fact of that premiere is not what I’m referencing — although, sure, congrats on that, Seth! My focus is instead on the new tool that Seth got Netflix to build and include in his special, a tool that will be greeted with relief and appreciation by many of you who are likely burned out on politics and the Trump news that seems to confront you almost anywhere you go on the Internet.

Police want to interrogate Amazon’s Alexa over grisly murder

Nobody likes the idea of a mega-huge company like Amazon listening in on our everyday conversations, but what if Alexa could help solve your murder? Florida police are hoping it’s possible, and they’re asking for Amazon’s help in solving a murder that left 32-year-old Silva Galva dead.

The suspect, 43-year-old Adam Reechard Crespo, was Galva’s boyfriend, and he claims that her death was the result of a tragic accident during a physical altercation between the two. Investigators aren’t so sure, and they’re hoping that the Echo speaker in the apartment may have overheard the incident.

Apple is quietly working on the perfect iPhone

%name Apple is quietly working on the perfect iPhone by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

iPhone owners know that Apple only refreshes the handset’s design every once in a while, usually when it has something significant to say, design-wise. But, if you’ve been following the iPhone from the start, you probably realized that all the changes Apple made to the iPhone over the years, from the first model all the way to the iPhone X, are baby steps that Apple has been taking towards delivering the perfect iPhone design.

The iPhone X is the latest major design refresh, of course, which Apple used for the iPhone XS and iPhone 11. Come next year, we’re going to get a brand new design, one that’s said to be inspired by the iPhone 4, and a design that should get us even closer to the perfect all-screen iPhone. And Apple is quietly working on bringing that ideal design to life, a new discovery shows.

%name This may be our first look at Samsung’s Galaxy S10 Lite by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

From the Pixel 4 announced at Google’s recent Made by Google event to new Samsung, iPhone and Huawei devices, it’s been a jam-packed year for new phone announcements, with all the major releases having officially been unveiled and teed up at this point. This is not to say, however, that the final weeks of 2019 don’t continue to feature leaks and interesting teases about still more as-yet-unannounced handsets. On the contrary.

Case in point: The upcoming Galaxy S10 Lite, the less-expensive (and, correspondingly, less feature-rich) variant of the standard Galaxy S10 that Samsung is rumored to be prepping. We don’t have an official word or timetable for the device yet — but we do have what might be our first solid indication of what it will end up looking like.

Microsoft invents glass that stores data

%name Microsoft invents glass that stores data by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Like it or not, we’ll always need solutions for storing data. Tech innovations such as fast data speeds like 5G and Wi-Fi 6 will let you download better quality shows and games than before, while the phone in your pocket can record 4K clips and take plenty of pictures, which usually require frequent backups. Then you have your operating system and apps, your work data, and you may even be in charge of managing the storage of your family’s memories. Solid-state drives definitely help with all the backups and storage needs, and while they’re cheaper than ever, they’re also more expensive than traditional hard drives — and they won’t last forever.

Microsoft is looking to fix some of the world’s endless storage needs by using a brand new material for data: Nearly indestructible Quartz glass that can hold permanent copies of data.
