After entertaining fans with Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home, Marvel revealed its slate of upcoming films and TV series for Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and it did so in three stages. Back in late July, Marvel announced almost all the movies and TV shows that will hit theaters and Disney+ by the end of 2021. A few weeks later, it unveiled three additional titles for the streaming service, and then it surprised fans by solving the Spider-Man spat with Disney and announcing that Spider-Man 3 will premiere in 2021.

Marvel also confirmed at Comic-Con in July that it has other projects in the making, including Blade, Black Panther 2, Captain Marvel 2, Guardians of the Galaxy 3 as well as Fantastic Four and X-Men projects that are in development. All the while, Disney confirmed that the Deadpool franchise will remain unchanged going forward. Since then, Marvel announced the date of Black Panther 2, May 6th, 2022, making it the first confirmed title for Phase 5. Aside from that early March premiere date, Marvel also has two more dates reserved that year, including February 8th, and July 29th. While we have no idea which films will be scheduled for release on those dates, we do have two potential titles that seem to be all but confirmed.

Last week, Apple afternoon reported fiscal fourth-quarter earnings of $3.03 per share, handily beating the Street’s consensus on the back of record revenue totaling $64 billion. Anytime Apple has recorded a big beat like that in the past, we all knew that it could be attributed almost entirely to strong iPhone sales — but that’s not the case anymore. Top smartphone markets around the world are saturated and flagship devices are more expensive than ever, so people are keeping them longer than they have in the past. As a result, Apple recently adjusted its strategy to focus more on services and wearables. Considering Apple’s top smartphone rival Samsung just reported September-quarter profit that plummeted a whopping 56% on year, it’s fairly safe to say that Apple made the right decision by branching out.

There’s really no question that adjusting its strategy to rely less on iPhone sales was the proper move, but there’s also no question that the iPhone is still Apple’s most popular and most talked-about product. We all know that there’s simply nothing else in the consumer electronics industry that generates buzz like the iPhone. And considering next year’s new iPhone 12 lineup is shaping up to be Apple’s biggest update since the company released the overhauled iPhone X in 2017, it’s no mystery why the iPhone 12 is already generating so much buzz despite being nearly a year away from launching.

Every once in a while, some analysts claim that Apple has to develop brand new products to reduce its bottom line’s reliance on the success of the iPhone. But Apple only releases products that make sense in the grand scheme of things, and that scheme includes the iPhones. Apple proved in recent years that it has a plan in place for making up for lost iPhone sales, and all the brand new products it happened to have released during the period were intimately related to the iPhone. While it’s unreasonable to expect every new Apple product to redefine a business, it happened with the Apple Watch and with the AirPods, both wearable devices launched in the past five years. We had smartwatches and wireless headphones before these two hit stores, but both the Apple Watch and AirPods set the tone in the industry — and they were both made for the iPhone, although the AirPods work great with anything else. Nobody is really calling for Apple to enter a new product category, but the company might soon do it. Apple is rumored to release a brand new type of product, one that’s been starring in more and more rumors of its own.
