In Netflix’s eyes, everyone reading these words who also subscribes to the streaming giant falls into one of these three categories: You’re either a “starter,” a “watcher,” or a “completer” (and probably more than one of those).

Those are the three categories into which Netflix groups viewers, and far being mere tags that help the service label its subscribers — the numbers herein are no doubt also used by the service to help inform decisions around what to green-light and what to cancel.

Amazon is giving away free money and we’re going to show you how to get it

%name Amazon is giving away free money and we’re going to show you how to get it by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

So, we’re the BGR Deals team and we’re going to tell you about tons of great deals today, just like we do every day. That said, this is a rare occasion when we can state conclusively that one deal in particular is better than all the others. “Better” is typically subjective, but that’s not the case when it comes to this particular deal. Why? Because this particular deal gives you free money!

Here’s how this crazy Amazon promo works: head to this page and click the button to add the promotion to your account. That wasn’t so hard, was it? Then buy $50 worth of Amazon gift cards and you’ll get a $15 credit on your account within a couple of days. That’s all there is to it! And of course, you’ll add the $50 gift card balance to your own account since you’re obviously going to spend that money with Amazon at some point anyway, so you haven’t spent a dime and you got $15 for free! The one caveat is that the promotion is available only to people who have never bought an Amazon gift card before on the Amazon website. If you’ve purchased physical Amazon gift cards in a store, that’s fine and you can still take advantage of the promo.

Note that you can also try to use the coupon code 19GIFTCARD at checkout instead of going to the promotion page as we detailed above, but people seem to have much better luck with the first method. Just head to the promo page, click the button, then buy $50 worth of Amazon gift cards. Note that if you see anything on that promo page other than some instructions and the button to add the promo, it means you’re not eligible, most likely because you’ve purchased gift cards on Amazon in the past.

This is what Google didn’t tell you about the Pixel 4

%name This is what Google didn’t tell you about the Pixel 4 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google unveiled the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4XL last Tuesday, finally putting a plug in what seemed like it would be an endless stream of leaks and rumors. A few leaks here and there are great for early adopters who love learning about unreleased devices before anyone else. But there’s a line that can be crossed when things go from exciting to exhausting, and the Pixel 4 series crossed that line about three months ago. We’re not talking about a few minor details here and there followed by a bunch of renders, which is how things work with most phones. We’re talking about full reviews and videos flooding YouTube and giving us up-close and personal looks at the new Pixel phones and most of their features. It was almost like the good old days when BGR was the site doing the leaking, back before we were acquired by a media giant and we could just laugh off all the lawsuits.

Things got so bad for Google that some people actually stopped caring about the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL before they were even made official. When you’ve already seen a new smartphone dozens of times, what’s the big deal about seeing it again? Of course, Google’s press conference ended up reinvigorating most of us because it meant that the phones were on their way to store shelves. And for sites like BGR, it meant we could finally get our hands on the Pixel 4 and check it out for ourselves.

Dark mode update for Gmail rolls out to Android 10 phones

%name Dark mode update for Gmail rolls out to Android 10 phones by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

One of the main features of this year’s iOS 13 and Android 10 releases is dark mode, a feature supposed to increase battery life on devices featuring OLED screens dramatically. That’s a side benefit, as dark mode should make it easier on the eyes to use a smartphone or tablet at night or in low-lit environments. However, one of the issues with dark mode is that, while it’s enabled at a system level, some app developers also have to update their apps with dark mode designs so that you can take advantage of dark mode in apps. Google may have brought dark mode to Android 10, but not all of its apps support it. One such example is one of its most popular apps, Gmail, where dark mode had been in testing since September. The good news, however, is that dark mode is rolling out to Gmail users who have Android 10 devices.

Traffic lights around the world are set to undergo a major change thanks to one man

%name Traffic lights around the world are set to undergo a major change thanks to one man by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you’ve got a lead foot when you’re behind the wheel — and especially if you’ve got a habit of flooring it when you see a yellow light, to try and make it through before it turns red — we have good news. A Swedish engineer may be responsible for a change in the timing sequence of traffic lights worldwide that could be coming soon.

And it’s all thanks to his dismay over a $260 ticket his wife received a few years ago in Beaverton, Oregon, as a result of being captured by an automated traffic light camera supposedly capturing her running a red light.

Two more people are dead after hot tub spreads Legionnaires’ disease at state fair

%name Two more people are dead after hot tub spreads Legionnaires’ disease at state fair by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Earlier this month the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services issued an update to its ongoing investigation into an outbreak of Legionnaires’ disease linked to a hot tub display at the North Carolina Mountain State Fair. At the time, health officials knew of 134 confirmed cases, including 88 individuals who needed hospital care and two deaths.

Things haven’t exactly improved in the week since that bulletin was issued. Just a couple of days ago, the NCDHHS provided another update to the statistics, this time noting a total of 142 confirmed cases of the disease, including 95 hospitalizations and 2 additional deaths, bringing the death toll to 4.

An all-electric version of the iconic Hummer may be coming soon

%name An all electric version of the iconic Hummer may be coming soon by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Even people who are decidedly not into cars tend to be familiar with the Hummer. Released with a whole a lot of fanfare back in the early 90s, the Hummer was effectively a civilian version of the Humvee, a military vehicle basically designed to roll over everything in its way. Though it’s been a little less than a decade since a new Hummer model rolled off a production line, an electric-version of the once-popular SUV may be coming sooner than later.

According to a recent report from Reuters, GM has concrete plans to introduce a brand new lineup of all-electric pickup trucks and SUVs in the next few years. And though nothing is official just yet, a revamped Hummer may be a part of that plan.

Google is bringing some ‘spooky sounds’ to Nest Hello, just in time for Halloween

%name Google is bringing some ‘spooky sounds’ to Nest Hello, just in time for Halloween by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I have some fond memories of trick-or-treating as a kid every Halloween like I’m sure we all do — one of those great holiday traditions when your life is still hopefully pretty innocent and mostly stress-free, and you can roam the neighborhood dressed up and knocking on doors asking for candy. Besides the fun of racing home and dumping it all out to check out the totality of your haul, one of the other fun things I remember is the extent to which some neighbors would go all-out, adding scary decorations outside and maybe even greeting you when you got to the door with spooky sound effects.

Especially if you’re one of those homeowners who gets into the spirit and likes adding lots of Halloween-themed touches to your home this time of year, Google has just added a delightful treat to its Nest Hello video doorbells that will help you do exactly that.
