Piranha teeth are even more incredible than we thought

Piranha fish are incredible animals that have gotten a bit of a bad reputation over the years. Though relatively small, the fish sport jaws lined with incredibly sharp teeth that they can use to tear flesh from bone. The fish, which are actually omnivores and not strict carnivores, don’t often mess with humans, but there’s no denying that their fearsome bite makes them a threat, especially if food is scarce.

Now, a new study published in Evolution & Development reveals that the teeth of various piranha species are even more unique than scientists first realized. The fish, it seems, are basically tiny tooth factories.

We may have been looking for the next Game of Thrones in the wrong places, because it’s already airing on HBO. Succession might lack the epic battles that make the fantasy genre so great, but it does nail the family politics. From the pilot all the way to the shocking finale of season 2, you won’t be able to put it down.

And you’ll love the characters for the same very reasons you’ll hate them, from the authoritarian family head and leader of a massive media corporation Logan Roy (Brian Cox) who can’t let go, to his four children all seeking to prove their worthiness to their father, and all the high ranking minions and acolytes that we get to meet in this two-season journey. With season 3 set to launch in 2020, we have a long time to digest what happened and imagine how the show will move forward, given everything we know about all of these Machiavellian characters. One fan has a brilliant theory about what we just saw in the recently aired season 2 finale, and what may have actually happened. Spoilers will follow, so tread carefully.

Taco Bell’s famous tag line is “run for the border,” but a recent discovery might make “run to the hospital” a little bit more appropriate.

The nationwide fast food chain earlier today said that it’s recalling 2.3 million pounds of seasoned beef after a customer recently discovered a metal shaving in their meal. As someone who has long enjoyed Taco Bell’s adventurous menu items, I must concede that metal shavings is where I draw the line.

The 15 most-watched shows this week on major streamers like Netflix

The fourth and final season of Mike Schur’s NBC comedy The Good Place debuted last month, three years after its 2016 premiere and after pulling off an admirable feat over its string of seasons.

The show made an enjoyable, successful comedy out of heady stuff like ethics and the question of what happens after you die, thus adding a quirky ensemble drama to NBC’s lineup topped by Ted Danson and Kristen Bell that also dealt with other potentially thorny, existential questions, like — what does it mean to be a good person? How does one go about pursuing that ideal?

This robotic hand taught itself to solve a Rubik’s Cube

%name This robotic hand taught itself to solve a Rubik’s Cube by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

There are a number of very impressive examples of how artificial intelligence can accomplish things that humans simply can’t, but nothing is cooler than seeing AI married to robotics. OpenAI, the artificial intelligence research group that counts Elon Musk among its founders, has been working on honing the skills of its neural networks in various ways, but this one-handed robot demonstration is probably its most impressive feat yet.

The bot was tasked with solving a Rubik’s Cube with one human-style hand. This might not sound all that impressive, but it becomes a lot more interesting when you learn that the bot’s creators never actually told it how to accomplish its goal.

Leaked Huawei Mate X unboxing video points to the foldable’s imminent launch

Huawei’s Mate X was the second foldable phone, after the Samsung Galaxy Fold, to have its initial release earlier this year temporarily scuttled as the company decided it needed to work through design woes and other assorted headaches that apparently come with trying to bring a phone with a bendable screen to market. A release for the Mate X, which will be powered by a Kirin 990 processor, was delayed to November — though it seems some people may be getting their hands on the device before the end of this month.

‘El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie’ had two alternate endings, including a much darker one

%name ‘El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie’ had two alternate endings, including a much darker one by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I hadn’t realized how much I missed Breaking Bad until I saw El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie movie over the weekend. The film that explains what happened to Jesse Pinkman after his escape in the Breaking Bad finale does feel a lot like a long Breaking Bad episode, which is quite a treat for fans of the series, but may not be as entertaining to anyone who hasn’t seen how the five-season AMC drama concluded.

Going into El Camino, I had no expectations for the film or for Jesse’s fate. The character deserved some redemption after what he went through, but it’s not like he wasn’t responsible for the way things turned out. That said, El Camino delivered a compelling and heartbreaking story, with Aaron Paul shining, once again, as Jesse, with a fitting end for the troubled young man we’ve come to know since he partnered up with Walter White. But it turns out the ending could have been a lot darker than what we saw in the final cut. Also, a variation of the ending the team chose contained another exciting scene I wish I could see. In case you haven’t seen the movie, spoilers will follow below.

The UK is going to send a spider bot to the Moon

Despite many eyes in the scientific community focusing on Mars over the past decade, Earth’s Moon still provides a huge scientific opportunity for space agencies around the globe. NASA is headed back with a crewed mission currently slated for 2024, China just broke new ground by landing on the far side of the Moon, and newcomers to the lunar space race like India and Israel have made their own attempts in 2019 as well.

Now, the UK is forging ahead with a new mission that will see a first-of-its-kind lunar rover journey to Earth’s pale satellite, and the bot sure does look cool.

This malware can make an ATM spit out all of its cash on demand

%name This malware can make an ATM spit out all of its cash on demand by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The bank employee in the city of Freiburg, Germany, who noticed a bank ATM acting screwy one morning was greeted with a bizarre message on the control panel: “Ho-ho-ho! Let’s make some cutlets today!” That employee didn’t immediately realize it, but hackers had implanted malware in the ATM as part of a so-called “jackpotting” attack. The end result is like something you might see in a movie — the ATM spitting out a stream of cash until the machine is completely drained.
