In 10 minutes, your Huawei Mate 30 Pro could be running Google apps

The Mate 30 Pro is one of the best Android phones of the year… at least on paper. The problem is that Huawei’s phone can’t run any of the Google apps you expect to find on Android devices: Google Play, Gmail, Search, Maps, and YouTube. The US ban forced Huawei to think outside the box and install a different version of Android that runs the company’s own apps, which is a nightmare for anyone using Android phones in Western markets.

From the moment Huawei unveiled the phone last week, hardcore Android users may have assumed it would be easy to port all of Google’s apps over and turn the Mate 30 Pro into a standard Android phone. It turns out that that is indeed the case, in spite of Huawei’s expected flip-flop on the bootloader status.

Russia says it won’t tell NASA why a hole appeared in the International Space Station

The mystery of why a small hole appeared in a Russian Soyuz spacecraft attached to the International Space Station last year is now somehow even more bizarre than it already was. The hole, which was detected by the crew and patched in space, sparked investigations by Russia’s Roscosmos and NASA, with both agencies vowing to get to the bottom of how such a thing could have happened.

Now, after months of silence, Roscosmos boss Dmitry Rogozin says he knows how it happened, but that NASA will never find out. It’s a bizarre state of affairs that highlights the odd tension that has been building between NASA and the Russian space agency for some time.

Night mode feature on the iPhone 11 outshines Google’s Pixel 3

%name Night mode feature on the iPhone 11 outshines Google’s Pixel 3 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

As any Apple executive will gladly tell you, the company isn’t so concerned about being the first to introduce a new feature as they are with offering up the best implementation of any given feature. As a prime example, when Apple introduced Touch ID on the iPhone 5s, it wasn’t the first smartphone with a fingerprint sensor. And yet, it was light years ahead of anything that was previously available.

With the recent release of the iPhone 11, it appears that history has repeated itself yet again. The new Night mode feature on the iPhone 11 is absolutely incredible, if not downright magical. And sure, Apple wasn’t the first smartphone to offer up a way to take clear photos in low-light situations, but early testing suggests that Apple’s implementation is far superior to similar offerings from the likes of Google and Samsung.

Venus may have once been habitable, but a mysterious event changed that

%name Venus may have once been habitable, but a mysterious event changed that by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Today, the planet Venus is incredibly hostile to life as we know it. With surface temperatures near 500 degrees Fahrenheit and a thick cloud layer of sulfuric acid, you wouldn’t last long if you visited, but things may have been very different a few billion years ago.

A new study by researchers at NASA’s Goddard Institute for Space Science suggests that the Venus we see today is a far cry from what it looked like two to three billion years ago. Past observations of the planet that revealed the possibility that an ocean once covered much of its surface, but scientists remained unsure if that meant the planet was once habitable. Now, new computer models show that a habitable Venus was not only possible but likely.

Sony reveals another way that the PS5 will be a huge upgrade over the PS4

%name Sony reveals another way that the PS5 will be a huge upgrade over the PS4 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Sony has been drip-feeding us details about the next-gen PlayStation for months now, a process which began with a Wired interview back in April. Thanks to the interview, we know that the PlayStation 5 (though it still does not have an official name) will feature an 8-core AMD CPU, custom 3D audio unit, super-fast solid-state drive (SSD), the ability to play physical media, and full backwards compatibility with all PS4 games.

A month later, during a Q&A session at Sony IR Day 2019, deputy president John Kodera seemingly confirmed that PS4 and PS5 owners will be able to play online together. There have been a few major leaks and rumors since, but on Sunday, Sony returned with a small but interesting reveal about its next-gen console.

iPhone 11 Pro drop test shows Apple’s next-gen iPhone is shockingly durable

%name iPhone 11 Pro drop test shows Apple’s next gen iPhone is shockingly durable by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

In a few years from now, people will likely look back at the current smartphone era and wonder why anyone in their right mind would destroy a perfectly good smartphone by dropping it from tall heights. The reality, though, is that modern-day smartphones, while more resilient and tougher than ever, are still prone to shattering when inadvertently dropped. With that said, a good old-fashioned drop test still has some merit these days, even if the height at which modern-day smartphones will shatter is seemingly getting higher and higher. Further, given that some smartphones cost in excess of $1000, knowing how prone a certain device is to shattering is clearly information of interest to many.

In light of that, it’s time for the time-honored tradition that immediately follows the release of any brand new iPhone: a drop test highlighting just how durable Apple’s next-gen iPhone actually is.

Cobra’s Road Scout is a radar detector and dash cam in one, and I won’t drive anywhere without it

%name Cobra’s Road Scout is a radar detector and dash cam in one, and I won’t drive anywhere without it by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I try to obey traffic laws including the speed limit as much as I can, but like most people I have my limits. When you’re driving on a big 4-lane street with no residential homes or heavily trafficked stores and the speed limited is 25 mph, there’s no way you’re driving that slow. That’s why a good radar detector is nice to have as long as it’s legal in your state. And of course, it’s even more important to have a dash cam in your car so that you can easily prove you’re innocent in the event of a car accident. The Cobra Road Scout Dash Cam and Radar Detector is a fantastic new model that checks both of those boxes with a single device, and it’s available right now on Amazon.

If you don’t need a radar detector and just want a high-quality dash camera, Cobra’s got two great options for you: The Cobra Drive Dash Cam DASH2208 and the Cobra Drive HD Dash Cam DASH2216D.

Cobra Road Scout Dash Cam and Radar Detector, WiFi, Bluetooth, iRadar Compatible, HD 1080P Dash…: $449.95

Here are the highlights from the product page:

  • 2-IN-1 RADAR DETECTOR & DASH CAM – Long range cobra radar detector combined with a high definition dash cam to capture and share unexpected moments. Built in Bluetooth provides community alerts from the Cobra iRadar app.
  • HIGH RESOLUTION DASH CAMERA FOR CARS – In-car video management on smartphone through direct Wifi connectivity to view, share, and edit videos. Full HD 1080p, enhanced night vision, and continuous loop recording provide for high quality video capabilities.
  • UNMISTAKEABLE DETECTION RANGE & ACCURACY – The best of police radar detector technology and radar detectors for cars, with Digital Signal processing detects real-time radar, laser, live patrol, and speed traps.
  • FAST, PRECISE, & RELIABLE ALERTS – Compatible with iRadar app for real-time crowd sourced speed trap notifications, preloaded with red light and speed camera location which trigger GPS-based laser-precise alerts.
  • EVERYTHING IN ONE CASE – Carry along the heavy duty EZ Mag Mount, 16GB SD Card, SmartCord, and micro USB cable accessories all in the convenient carry case.

You’ll probably destroy your $2,000 Galaxy Fold

%name You’ll probably destroy your $2,000 Galaxy Fold by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The Galaxy Fold will be available in the US starting Friday, which will give you a fantastic opportunity to save $1,980, and do something else with that money. We get it, someone had to be first to launch foldable smartphones, and Samsung always wanted to be the one to do it. But if there’s anything the Galaxy Fold has proven so far it’s that technology isn’t ready for smartphone makers to create foldable handsets that are as durable as regular ones. Just a few days ago, Samsung reminded buyers the phone is an accident waiting to happen, in spite of all the changes it made to the phone’s construction. If you still want to go forward and part ways with $2,000, then you should know the chances of ruining your phone are very high, certainly higher than with any other device.
