Bloomberg says next year’s iPhone 12 might finally bring back Touch ID

If Apple repeats the new iPhone release pattern it appears to be repeating, next year’s new iPhones could end up being the iPhone 12 series as opposed to the iPhone 11s series. As Apple fans will undoubtedly recall, there is a precedent for Apple reusing the same iPhone design for three consecutive years, as it is doing now. The iPhone 6, iPhone 6s, and iPhone 7 smartphones were all practically identical, and the company then skipped the “7s” and went straight to the iPhone 8 in 2017. Now, the upcoming new iPhone 11 is shaping up to be almost identical to the iPhone X and the iPhone XR/XS series smartphones from the past two years.

As was the case back in 2016, the iPhone 11 will differentiate itself a bit with a new rear camera and new finishes, but the design is otherwise basically unchanged. That could pave the way for a new iPhone 12 next year, and the latest report on Apple’s upcoming 2020 iPhone models suggests that they might be a huge upgrade worth of an entirely new number instead of an “S.”

Google will unveil the Pixel 4 in about a month, but we already know what the phone’s signature features will be. That’s thanks to Google, which went on record with Pixel 4 teasers and previews in the past few months, in an attempt to control all the leaks. The Pixel 4 will have a dual-lens camera on the back placed in a square camera module that will look a lot like the iPhone 11’s rear camera. On the front, the phone will pack a classic screen design, as well as a feature that’s not available on any rival device this year, not even the iPhone 11. That feature, however, might not be available to all Pixel 4 buyers this year.

Samsung is finally ready to share the Galaxy Fold release date with the world – well, sort of

Samsung’s Galaxy Fold nightmare is soon coming to an end, as the company finally announced the official release date of the handset. The phone was supposed to ship to buyers in late April, but that never happened. Samsung canceled the launch and redesigned several key features of the phone to improve the durability of the foldable screen. Several early reviewers discovered that the display could be rendered useless with relative ease, either because of tiny debris that could make its way into the phone or because of user ignorance. It took Samsung several months to address the issues and test the redesigned phone, and the company is now ready to start selling it. Correct that; Samsung has to sell at least one Galaxy Fold phone in the coming weeks, to tick that achievement off its list. Years from now, it has to be able to tell the world with a somewhat straight face that it was one of the first major handset vendors to release a foldable phone.

Rooftop weed growing operation accidentally busted by a helicopter filming a bike race

If you’re running an illegal marijuana growing operation in the middle of a city, there’s plenty of ways you could find yourself busted. Maybe a neighbor stumbles upon some suspicious plants in your yard, or someone passing by on the sidewalk notes a bounty of green foliage through a basement window; the possibilities are quite literally endless.

One particular weed operation in Spain recently had its cover blown not by a passerby or even nosy cops, but by cycling fans who just wanted to watch some of their favorite athletes race. During a broadcast of the eighth stage of the La Vuelta 19 race, an airborne camera swept over the top of a tall residential structure, revealing two walled-in areas lined with what was apparently a whole lot of illegal pot.

Amazon has found a lead actor for its ‘Lord of the Rings’ fantasy series

One of the most anticipated streaming TV projects on the drawing board that has attracted a ton of buzz without so much as the release of a full trailer yet is the epic fantasy Amazon is setting in the world of the Lord of the Rings — a series for which we don’t even have a release date yet, either. Nevertheless, at least a few details have started to trickle out, stoked in part by the release of this teaser that confirms some behind-the-scenes details about the series.

And now comes word that Amazon may have tapped a leading man for the show — that actor being Will Poulter, who’s had recent high-profile roles in Netflix’s Black Mirror movie Bandersnatch as well as the recent feature film Midsommar.

‘Carnival Row’ review: It’s not the next ‘Game of Thrones,’ but it doesn’t have to be

%name ‘Carnival Row’ review: It’s not the next ‘Game of Thrones,’ but it doesn’t have to be by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Game of Thrones left a huge vacuum when it ended in mid-May, with every studio under the sun trying to come up with the next Game of Thrones. HBO has at least one in the works, His Dark Materials, although it’s Netflix’s The Witcher that may be the most anticipated Thrones replacement of the year. That’s only because Amazon’s massive TV series based on The Lord of the Rings hasn’t even started filming and won’t be ready for quite some time.

Until The Witcher drops, there’s one more Game of Thrones alternative you should be aware of — a fantasy, action-packed drama called Carnival Row. It might look like it’s trying too hard to be the next Thrones if you only watch the trailers. That doesn’t mean, however, that Carnival Row isn’t an enjoyable show, or that it has to be the next Game of Thrones to succeed. All I know is that, after going through half of the first season, I can’t wait to see how it ends, and whether it warrants any attention after that. And the more I watch it, I realize I’m just too biased, and it’s not necessarily fair to compare Travis Beacham’s story to HBO’s biggest hit or any of these other Thrones alternatives.

You can finally block images in the Gmail app on iPhone and iPad

Google rolled out an update for the Gmail app on iOS this week that allows users to choose whether or not they want external images to load automatically when they open an email. This might not sound like a huge deal, but as former Twitter executive Mike Davidson revealed in a blog post back in July, attached images can double as email trackers, and some can even tell the sender exactly where you were when you opened the message.

Chinese vase bought for about $1 at a thrift store turns out to be a rare antique worth $100,000

%name Chinese vase bought for about $1 at a thrift store turns out to be a rare antique worth $100,000 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Taking a trip to your local thrift shop probably isn’t going to yield any remarkable discoveries. You’ll probably find a few broken printers, an incomplete set of silverware or two, and lots of clothing that smells vaguely like mothballs. So, when a bargain hunter in Hertfordshire, England, listed a small vase purchased at a local thrift shop on eBay, they couldn’t possibly have expected their £1 investment to turn into £80,000.

The vase, which stands a mere eight inches tall, was picked up for next to nothing, but it got a lot of attention once it appeared on eBay. Art collectors flocked to the listing, prompting the unnamed owner to withdraw it from bidding and have it appraised. Now, it’ll appear in a fine art auction where it is expected to make its seller very, very happy.

It was only a matter of time, but Nintendo finally announced that Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) titles are coming to the Nintendo Switch Online service starting this Thursday, September 5th. Switch owners have waited for this announcement ever since Switch Online launched with a selection of NES titles, and although it took a little longer than expected, it will be a welcome addition to the paid service.

Best of all, the addition of SNES games won’t change the price of the service, and won’t require you to do anything differently. If you subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online now, or plan to in the future, you will automatically gain access to the full collection of NES and SNES games right away as of tomorrow.
