Disney’s huge streaming deal crashed D23, but you can still take advantage of the discount

The Disney+ streaming service will only launch on November 12th, but you can already score a massive deal on it that lowers the entry price to less than $4 a month. The catch is that you have to subscribe to Disney’s D23 service before going for the Disney+ discount. But a free D23 membership also qualifies, so you don’t have to pay anything on top of the Disney+ subscription. Once that’s done you do have to pay $140 for three years of Disney+ service. You get to save $23 for every year, or a total of $69, which is the equivalent of one year of Disney+ access. Unsurprisingly, the deal generated lots of interest from consumers, and the D23 portal ended up crashing as a result.

Google will probably unveil the Pixel 4 phones in early October, and ship them to buyers later that month. That’s what Google did with the previous Pixels, and we’d expect the company to adhere to the same launch schedule. But Google did change things this year, choosing to address the inevitable Pixel 4 rumors head on. In the past couple of months, Google made two massive revelations about the Pixel 4, which practically confirmed all the rumors. The company showed the world the new rear camera and rear panel design, as well as the Pixel 4’s other signature features on the front, including 3D face recognition support and radar-based gestures (Project Soli). Since these revelations were made, we saw photos showing the Pixel 4 in the wild a few times, but it’s the images that follow that give us the best look at Google’s upcoming smartphone.

NASA telescopes reveal secrets of the dark sides of ‘hot Jupiter’ exoplanets

%name NASA telescopes reveal secrets of the dark sides of ‘hot Jupiter’ exoplanets by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Of all the types of exoplanets researchers have discovered in recent years with ever more powerful telescope technology, the so-called “hot Jupiters” might be the most interesting. They’re not the kind of planets we’d ever expect to find life on, but they’re so unlike anything we see in our own solar system that you can’t help but wonder what they might be like.

Hot Jupiter planets are, as their name suggests, gas giants like our own Jupiter, but much, much warmer. The planets orbit much closer to their host star than Jupiter does, and that causes temperatures to spike. Now, a new study using data from both the Spitzer telescope and the venerable Hubble reveals something very interesting about the strange, swirling masses of hot gas.

This could be the Google Pixel Watch of your dreams

%name This could be the Google Pixel Watch of your dreams by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

A Pixel-branded smartwatch from Google has been hoped-for and speculated about for a while now, with the rumor mill heating up yet again earlier this year in tandem with I/O 2019, where a number of Wear OS smartwatches were front and center. Likewise, the past year or so has seen the release of almost two dozen Wear OS smartwatches from myriad brands — again, all fueling rumors of when Google would get around to releasing a Pixel Watch.

A newly published patent suggests that it actually might be sooner rather than later and reveals the design for what could be a Pixel Watch with a built-in camera.

SpaceX’s Starhopper launch scrubbed at the last possible second

%name SpaceX’s Starhopper launch scrubbed at the last possible second by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

SpaceX was scheduled to launch its scaled-down Starship test vehicle, Starhopper, on Monday evening. Things were looking good right up until the moment the spacecraft was supposed to fire up its engines, but unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

It wasn’t immediately clear what went wrong, but the fact that the launch was called off after the countdown timer had reached T-0 suggested some kind of malfunction. Shortly after the scrub, SpaceX boss Elon Musk revealed the reason for the last-second abort, and admitted he’s a bit embarrassed that things didn’t work out.

Disney+ will not make R-rated content available to subscribers

%name Disney+ will not make R rated content available to subscribers by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

In a time where it’s easy to get overwhelmed, if not numb, to the growing selection of streaming options, the fact that Disney+ has engendered a lot of excitement speaks volumes. While it remains to be seen how many people actually end up subscribing to Disney’s nascent streaming service, the company thus far has seemingly done everything right.

Right off the bat, Disney is coming to the table with a boatload of content. Aside from Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars content, Disney has an absolute treasure trove of movies and TV shows to bring to the table. Second, and just as important, Disney is making Disney+ impressively affordable. Priced at just $6.99 a month, Disney+ is not only cheaper than both Netflix and HBO, but arguably offers users the best bang for the buck across the streaming landscape.

NASA boss weighs in on Pluto’s planet status

%name NASA boss weighs in on Pluto’s planet status by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

One of the internet’s favorite topics of debate, at least when it comes to astronomy, is whether or not Pluto should be considered a planet. Once considered a planet, Pluto has since been “demoted” by the scientific community and is now considered a dwarf planet.

Now, despite nobody really asking him to, NASA boss Jim Bridenstine has weighed in on the debate, and he’s definitely pro-Pluto. In a brief video clip posted on Twitter, Bridenstine offers a somewhat tongue-in-cheek take on Pluto’s status, saying that he definitely believes Pluto is a planet if for no other reason than that’s what he was taught as a kid.

KFC’s Beyond Meat fried chicken sold out in less than 5 hours

%name KFC’s Beyond Meat fried chicken sold out in less than 5 hours by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

With demand for plant-based meat booming, Beyond Meat earlier today ran a test run of its plant-based fried chicken substitute at a single KFC restaurant in Atlanta. The verdict? Demand for plant-based chicken is immense, with the KFC location selling completely out of its supply in less than five hours.

According to a PR rep for the company, lines at the KFC store began forming at 8 in the morning and didn’t let up until the supply was exhausted. Speaking to the demand for the chicken substitute, KFC relayed that the amount of Beyond Chicken consumers purchased today is the equivalent to the amount of popcorn chicken the store sells over the course of an entire week.

Verizon will now auto-block spam calls

%name Verizon will now auto block spam calls by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Hatred of spam calls and robocalls is one of the few certainties of life you could put right up there with the inevitability of death and taxes. They’re universally despised, while also metastasizing into a nearly out-of-control problem, which is why spam call-blocking mobile apps and services have begun to proliferate — and even the carriers are, slowly, starting to step up.

Verizon, which said today it estimates customers will have been spared from more than 1.5 billion robocalls this year thanks to its help, is the latest.
