Every single iPhone 11 picture you’ve seen so far is wrong – here’s why

We’re now exactly two weeks and one day away from Apple’s big September press conference, during which it will unveil the next-generation iPhone lineup. Rumored to be called the iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max — for better or worse — Apple’s upcoming new iPhones were initially believed to be somewhat modest updates. But the trickle of leaks that had been dripping across the internet for months became a rushing river in recent weeks, and a number of exciting new features have been revealed. Apple’s iPhone 11 series pack plenty of power thanks to next-generation A series Apple processors that will once again tout class-leading technology, and a host of new features like enhanced photography modes, reverse wireless charging, and more will be introduced. In fact, the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max might finally put Apple back on top of the pile in terms of camera quality after companies like Huawei and Google surpassed Apple a few years back.

Where design is concerned, the new iPhone 11 models are expected to look exactly like their predecessors from the front. Around back, however, there are believed to be a number of big changes in store. The most obvious changes pertain to the cameras, of course, which will now be a dual-lens array on the iPhone 11 and a triple-lens array on the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max. All three models will have large square “camera bumps,” and we’ve seen them imagined in renders and on physical iPhone 11 mockups time and time again. But as many times as we’ve seen Apple’s new iPhone design leak this year just like it does each and every year, something is different this time around: Every single picture and video we’ve seen so far that shows off Apple’s supposed iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro designs has been wrong.

Samsung is done release flagship phones this year, with both the Galaxy S10 and Note 10 phones available to consumers in several markets — the Galaxy Fold doesn’t even matter, at this point. The handsets have many things in common when it comes to design principles and specs, although the new Notes do deliver a few extras on top of what’s available from the S10, including a sleeker design, faster battery charging, an even better display, and better cameras, and the S Pen stylus, of course. But Samsung is already hard at work on the next generation of flagships, which will debut with the Galaxy S11 next year, and we have the first exciting report about the handset.

A series of leaks in the past few days showed us what will probably be the design signature feature of the OnePlus 7T Pro, and likely the only change you can expect from the new phones. Meanwhile, CAD renders of the device have leaked, indicating that the same design change will be deployed across the OnePlus 7T series, complete with a significant upgrade.

Japan’s space agency JAXA has had a busy year, but that’s par for the course when you’re controlling an asteroid probe orbiting a distant space rock. the Hayabusa2 spacecraft has been hanging out around the asteroid known as Ryugu for a little over a year now, and it’s made some big moves along the way.

The spacecraft has already collected samples of asteroid material that it will eventually bring back to Earth, but there’s still plenty scientists can learn about the makeup of the asteroid even without going hands-on. In a new study published in Science, researchers explain how images gathered by a tiny robotic lander deployed to Ryugu are revealing its Earth-like qualities.

Disney’s huge D23 Expo huge event brought us several exciting updates on Disney’s entertainment plans for the coming years, and that includes news about the next Star Wars chapter, a bunch of Marvel news, as well as an avalanche of revelations about Disney’s incoming streaming service. Disney unveiled new shows for Disney+, including more MCU Phase 4 TV series, a Christmas movie, and the live-action version of one other classic animated feature. We also learned two crucial details about the streaming service that makes it look both better and worse than its biggest rival right now, Netflix — and no, it’s not about the actual original content that’s hitting either service in the coming months.

The last week of any month is often hit-or-miss for Netflix releases, but the end of August brings with it a few shows that you should definitely have on your radar. The first is an anime called Carole & Tuesday, which is directed by the same man who directed the critically acclaimed and universally beloved Cowboy Bebop. I watched the first couple of episodes as they aired in Japan, and can’t wait to see the rest once they land on Netflix.

The other highlight this week is The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, which is a prequel to the 1982 cult classic from Jim Henson. Early reviews are wildly positive, and even having never seen the original movie (I know, I know), it has definitely shot to the top of my list of shows I’ll be watching in the coming weeks.

When Marvel announced the lineup of movies and Disney+ TV series that will be included of the fourth phase of its Cinematic Universe, the company said it revealed everything related to Phase 4. That was back at Comic-Con a few weeks ago. In the meantime, Disney’s D23 Expo is in town, and we just learned that three other TV series would be included in Phase 4, introducing several other superheroes. That’s not everything Marvel had to announce during the event, as it also revealed the release date of one of the upcoming MCU Phase 5 films.
