NASA went to Iceland and pretended it was Mars

The scheduled launch date of NASA’s Mars 2020 mission is rapidly approaching, and with less than a year to go, it’s truly crunch time for NASA and its partners. Testing strategies for Mars exploration might seem impossible here on Earth, but our planet does indeed have some terrain that is comparable to what NASA’s rovers have to deal with on the Red Planet.

Recently, NASA sent a team of over a dozen scientists and engineers to Iceland to test new Mars exploration techniques in a lava field that closely matches the Mars landscape.

T-Mobile again wins a gold star from JD Power for its customer service

%name T Mobile again wins a gold star from JD Power for its customer service by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

T-Mobile likes to pride itself on being an “Un-carrier” among its wireless industry peers, which stems from its belief that it has far and away better customer service than the other guys and as such isn’t really a carrier in the traditional sense. Indeed, customers will no doubt admit real frustration when going into wireless stores, which are often staffed by employees trying to force extra accessories and insurance on you, among other gripes.

Hidden gestures you didn’t know about make switching Google accounts so much easier

%name Hidden gestures you didn’t know about make switching Google accounts so much easier by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Many people who use Google services have more than one account, which means they always have to pay attention and use certain apps with specific accounts. The easiest example is using Gmail for work. If the company you work for gives you a Gmail-based email account, then you probably switch between personal and work Gmail quite a lot. And the same goes for all the other Google services that are associated with each account.

Thankfully, Google devised an easy way to move between accounts that’s available both on Android and iPhone, and you might not even have realized that you can already take advantage of it.

Neanderthals had to deal with an ear problem we still struggle with today

%name Neanderthals had to deal with an ear problem we still struggle with today by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

You might not think we have much in common with a race of ancient people that died out tens of thousands of years ago, but modern humans actually share a number of similarities with neanderthals. The latest example of this comes from a new study published in PLOS ONE, and it reveals that Neanderthals had to deal with an ear problem that some of us still grapple with today.

External auditory exostoses is a condition in which “dense bony growths” form in the ear canal. It’s commonly referred to as “surfer’s ear” because it’s believed that water and/or cold temperatures can play a role in the formation of the growths. In the study, researchers found that Neanderthals were particularly susceptible to this unfortunate condition.

You can now send reminders to your friends and family with Google Assistant

%name You can now send reminders to your friends and family with Google Assistant by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

I visit my family back in Alabama at least two or three times a year, and every time I travel home, I have to coordinate who I’m staying with, whose car I might be able to borrow, and who can take me to the airport when I leave. All of this is fairly simple to accomplish, and thankfully my family is always happy to help out, but it does involve several phone calls to make sure everyone is on the same page and has my plans written down somewhere.

A new feature from Google could simplify this entire process significantly, though. Announced today on Google’s blog, assignable reminders are coming to Google Assistant on phones, speakers and smart displays in the coming weeks. Once the feature arrives, you’ll be able to create and send reminders to other people.

Huawei reportedly launching its own Google Maps replacement in October

%name Huawei reportedly launching its own Google Maps replacement in October by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Huawei’s slow untethering of itself from a reliance on Google, and specifically on Google’s Android mobile operating system, is sort of underway now — “sort of” being the key phrase since it’s still not clear if Huawei will stay cut off from Google indefinitely. But that’s also why the company has gone ahead and worked up a homegrown OS that it says it can bring to its handsets eventually, if needed, as a replacement for Android.

Meanwhile, after having finally unveiled that OS in recent days, Huawei is apparently about to take another step forward in its great decoupling from Google. Next up is a reveal supposedly coming in October of Huawei’s potential alternative to Google Maps, called Map Kit.

Airlines might rebrand 737 Max, even if Boeing doesn’t

%name Airlines might rebrand 737 Max, even if Boeing doesn’t by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Major airlines all over the globe have a serious problem on their hands, and it’s not just the fact that the Boeing 737 Max remains grounded months after a pair of deadly crashes claimed hundreds of lives. Once the defunct planes are once again deemed sky-worthy, airlines will have to convince travelers that it’s okay to climb aboard, and the name “737 Max” is a big red flag for fliers.

Boeing has toyed around with the idea of rebranding the planes, giving them a new designation and hoping that travelers will just put the whole tragic saga behind them, but the company hasn’t made any big moves on that front just yet. In the meantime, some airlines are reportedly considering calling the planes by a different name in order to regain the public’s trust.

Here’s what might have happened if the X-Men were in ‘Avengers: Endgame’

%name Here’s what might have happened if the X Men were in ‘Avengers: Endgame’ by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Now that Disney owns Fox, and thus has control of the X-Men and Fantastic Four characters once again, it’s only a matter of time before we see those characters join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Sadly, all those legendary comic book creations were left out of the Infinity Saga, but if Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo were given an opportunity to use the X-Men, they know exactly what they would have done with them.

Before we go any further, I need to clarify two things. First, the X-Men were never going to be featured prominently in Endgame, or any of the MCU movies up to this point. Second, this was nothing more than a fun exercise, and (likely) has nothing to do with the future of the franchise. With that out of the way, let’s move on.
