Studying distant objects in space can be tricky for astronomers, especially when those objects begin to do unexpected — and unexplainable — things. Neutron stars are thought to be the most dense objects in space, and scientists have a pretty good handle on how they form. However, the tendency of some neutron stars to “glitch,” or behave erratically, has left astronomers scratching their heads.

Now, a new study published in Nature Astronomy takes a close look at observations of a distant neutron star called the Vela Pulsar and offers an explanation for its own peculiar behavior while helping to explain the inner workings of these interesting objects.

OnePlus CEO Pete Lau may have just confirmed the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G

%name OnePlus CEO Pete Lau may have just confirmed the OnePlus 7T Pro 5G by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Recently, OnePlus has been releasing new flagship phones in the first half of the year, and an updated version of the phone in the back half of the year. It seemed possible that the release strategy would change with the addition of the Pro model this last spring, but in a recent interview with Financial Times, OnePlus CEO Pete Lau confirmed that his company will launch a second 5G phone in the fourth quarter of this year with global availability.

OnePlus was among the first phone vendors to launch a 5G phone earlier this year in the form of the OnePlus 7 Pro 5G, but it is currently only available in select countries overseas, including the UK. 5G support certainly seems like a no-brainer for a follow-up to the OnePlus 7, but we now appear to have confirmation.

Apple issues statement on ‘locking’ third-party battery replacements

%name Apple issues statement on ‘locking’ third party battery replacements by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

It’s no secret that Apple has historically made it extremely challenging for iPhone owners to open up their devices and replace components, a stance which certainly explains the company’s affinity for pentalobe screws. From Apple’s vantage point, it’s a matter of safety. And while this may seem like nothing more than a generic talking point, the reality is that third-party battery replacements can have potentially grave consequences as we saw in a recent video featuring an exploding iPhone.

In light of that, iFixit last week discovered that Apple implemented something of an unusual software lock in iOS that prevents users from checking the health of their iPhone battery if it was replaced by an unauthorized third-party. Instead, users keen on checking the health of their battery are greeted with the following message: “Unable to verify this iPhone has a genuine Apple battery. Health information not available for this battery.”

%name Mate 30 Pro’s wireless charging might be just as fast as the Galaxy Note 10’s wired charging by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Now that the Galaxy Note 10 series is official, we’ve learned that the Galaxy Note 10+ needs only 65 minutes to recharge with the help of the default 25W charger. Scientists say this massive asteroid definitely won’t destroy Earth… yet

%name Scientists say this massive asteroid definitely won’t destroy Earth… yet by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If the thought of an asteroid careening toward Earth keeps you up at night you can breathe a little easier today, as scientists have now ruled out a potential impact from the space rock known as 2006 QV89. The rock, which was discovered in 2006, was only visible for a few months after astronomers spotted it, and that wasn’t nearly enough time to forecast its threat potential at the time.

Now, after spotting it once again this month, its course has been plotted for the foreseeable future, and researchers have declared the rock poses no threat to Earth for at least the next century.

T-Mobile and AT&T are actually working together to stop robocalls

%name T Mobile and AT&T are actually working together to stop robocalls by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The scourge of robocalls and spoofed numbers is bad as now as it’s ever been, but in recent weeks, the government and the private sector have both been taking the issue more seriously. In fact, US mobile carriers T-Mobile and AT&T revealed on Wednesday that they are teaming up to bring call cross-network call authentication protections to their subscribers. That’s right — two of the industry’s biggest rivals are working together to help you.

T-Mobile and AT&T will take advantage of the SHAKEN/STIR caller authentication technology to ensure that anyone who receives a call on either of their networks or between their networks knows when the call is legitimate and when it’s spam. SHAKEN/STIR will verify a call is from the number that appears on your caller ID.
