This is our best look yet at a Pixel 4 in the wild

%name This is our best look yet at a Pixel 4 in the wild by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Google a few weeks ago showed a teaser image of the Pixel 4’s rear, confirming the phone will feature a dual-lens camera placed inside into a rectangular camera module. Then, Google announced that the Pixel 4 would sport 3D face recognition support that’s going to work differently than Face ID. Also, the company confirmed that the Project Soli radar system will be integrated into the top bezels. In the process, Google confirmed the Pixel 4 will not have a notch, as all the components needed for face recognition and radar-based gestures will occupy a lot of space on top of the phone.

Thanks to Google’s revelations, it’s now relatively easy to recognize a Pixel 4 in the wild, and someone spotted one on a plane, snapping several pictures of the device.

Huawei a few days ago unveiled its first mobile operating system, called HongmengOS in China and HarmonyOS everywhere else. At the time, the company revealed the first HarmonyOS product would be unveiled later this year, powering “screen products” before moving to other platforms. At the time, we thought the first “screen product” running HarmonyOS would be the Mate 30 Pro flagship that’s hitting stores this fall. But that’s not the case, as Huawei’s Honor just announced that the world’s first product to run HarmonyOS would not be a smartphone.

Dead planets beam ‘zombie’ radio signals into space for up to a billion years, scientists say

%name Dead planets beam ‘zombie’ radio signals into space for up to a billion years, scientists say by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

New exoplanet discoveries have been popping up with increasing regularity in recent years thanks to technological advances that allow scientists to spot evidence of their existence from afar. Spotting a dip in the brightness of a star is one of the easiest ways to find planets, but new research shows that it’s also possible to spot “dead” planets orbiting burned-out stars just by listening for them.

A new study published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society explains how metal-rich planetary cores that survive around white dwarf stars actually beam a radio signal into space that can be detected from Earth for hundreds of millions or even a billion years.››

Another week, another returning Netflix original series. Mindhunter is back for its second season of grisly murders and the conversations that follow, and while the first season had its ups and downs, but ended strong and left viewers with a nail-biting cliffhanger that should have everyone champing at the bit for new episodes.

Other highlights include the sixth season of The 100, a Cannon Busters anime, and a new Invader Zim movie called Enter the Florpus, which revives one of the true cult classics of the early 2000s. Sadly, we’re also losing No Country for Old Men this week as well, so be sure to find a time to watch it before it’s gone.

Child-sized parrots once roamed New Zealand

%name Child sized parrots once roamed New Zealand by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Parrots are popular pets today, and you don’t have to look far on YouTube to find charming videos of tropical birds doing adorable things. They’re fun animals, and their small size makes them appealing to potential owners. Fossils from New Zealand reveal the existence of an ancient parrot that would definitely not have been a good fit for an apartment-dweller… or anyone, for that matter.

The bird, which has been nicknamed “Squakzilla,” was absolutely massive by today’s standards. The creature weighed in at around 15 pounds, which might not sound all that big, but it stood about as tall as a 4-year-old child. Yeah, that’s a big bird.
