The Switch may have sold like hot cakes in international markets since March 2017, but it has yet to reach stores in China. Nintendo has been working with authorities to bring the Switch to stores in the massive Chinese market though, and local tech giant Tencent is going to play a significant role in that process.

The 4 things we know for certain about next year’s Galaxy S11

%name The 4 things we know for certain about next year’s Galaxy S11 by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Samsung’s Galaxy S10 lineup isn’t exactly revolutionary, but it’s a massive and much-needed upgrade compared to the Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+. The S9 series from 2018 was a huge disappointment, and it sent Samsung’s stellar performance in its smartphone business crashing back down to Earth. The Galaxy S9 and S9+ looked almost identical to the Galaxy S8 and S8+ that had been released a year earlier, and they touted no exciting new features whatsoever. Needless to say, that was a recipe for disaster and sales plummeted as a result.

While the South Korean smartphone giant hasn’t yet fully recovered in terms of financial performance, it’s at least now on the right path thanks in part to the redesigned Galaxy S10 series. These sleek new phones feature a completely overhauled design that finally ditches the thick bezels and replaces them with a sleek all-screen design that’s nearly bezel-free. At the top of the phones, a hole-punch camera positioned inside the display allowed Samsung to ditch the huge “forehead” bezel from its earlier Galaxy S models. People love the new design, and the hidden fingerprint sensor under the screen is also a nifty addition. But what happens next year with the Galaxy S11? Will it be another boring update like the S9 was last year, or will Samsung keep its momentum going by launching another exciting new flagship series in early 2020?

Crazy concept imagines an iPhone 11 with a curved display that wraps around the edges

%name Crazy concept imagines an iPhone 11 with a curved display that wraps around the edges by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple has set the bar when it comes to smartphone design ever since the original iPhone was introduced in 2007. Actually, we need to amend that statement: Apple had set the bar when it comes to smartphone design ever since the original iPhone was introduced in 2007. Every rival smartphone maker experience any success today got its start by copying Apple’s designs. That’s especially true for Samsung, which literally wrote the book on ripping off Apple. Every other Android phone maker out there has also copied Apple along the way though, even newer companies like Xiaomi and Google. Remember the first Pixel? It was little more than an iPhone 6 with a piece of glass slapped on the back near the top of the phone.

Late 2017 through early 2018 is when copying Apple really peaked. Remember when dozens of Android phones looked exactly like the iPhone X? It was beyond embarrassing, but it also marked the end of an era. Apple, which had always been the design leader that every other company followed, temporarily hit a brick wall with its iPhone X design. Last year’s iPhone XS looks exactly the same as the iPhone X and so will this year’s iPhone 11, aside from a minor change with the rear camera. Meanwhile, Android phone makers have kept going, cooking up better and more creative all-screen designs that far surpass Apple. The shift should be temporary as Apple regroups and works on its next big design shift for the iPhone 12, and now a new concept video imagines an iPhone that would once again set the bar for smartphone design.

Watch ‘electrofishing’ boat stun hundreds of invasive carp in Kentucky

%name Watch ‘electrofishing’ boat stun hundreds of invasive carp in Kentucky by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Invasive species can be a major problem no matter where they’re found, but for researchers trying to combat invasive fish species, the challenges are unique. In Kentucky, wildlife officials are doing their best to fight back against an invasion of Asian carp, and they’re using electricity to do so.

Monitoring the status of the Asian carp population is difficult because, well, the fish are hard to see underwater. Large nets aren’t necessarily the best option for smaller bodies of water, so the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources decided on electrofishing instead, and video of the operation is truly incredible.
