The Galaxy Fold’s exact release date might’ve finally leaked, and it’s horrible news

%name The Galaxy Fold’s exact release date might’ve finally leaked, and it’s horrible news by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Every single time I think things cannot possibly get any worse for Samsung’s Galaxy Fold, I’m unpleasantly surprised yet again.

I’ve been saying for about a year and a half now that Samsung’s first foldable smartphone would end up being a disaster. That’s right, I started saying it more than a year before the phone was even announced. I’ve explained how and why I knew this so far in advance a few times now, but it boils down to the simple fact that Samsung Mobile is terrible at making first-generation smartphones. The company excels at renovation, not innovation.

Samsung’s early Galaxy S phones were plasticky junk with one of the worst user interfaces in the history of smartphones. Now, they’re industry-leading marvels with gorgeous hardware and lightning-fast software. The company’s early tablets and smartwatches were also horrible, but look at how good they are now. Samsung rushes first-generation products out the door and never does a good job of it. But once the company has had time to refine its designs, they’re fantastic.

That brings us to the debacle that is the Galaxy Fold, a smartphone that was supposed to be released back in April before disaster struck. Now it’s almost August and a new leak might finally reveal the phone’s exact release date. Unfortunately, it’s more bad news for Samsung and its fans.

Hardcore Android fans reveal all the iOS 13 features they wish Google would copy

%name Hardcore Android fans reveal all the iOS 13 features they wish Google would copy by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple released iOS 13 beta 5 for developers on Monday, and it’ll likely follow that today with iOS 13 public beta 4. This latest release focuses mainly on bug fixes, obviously, though beta 5 in particular seems to have added more bugs than it squashed. Still, the stars of the show in Apple’s iOS 13 betas are the new features like Dark Mode and all the big changes in Apple’s official apps.

Something Apple fans don’t often consider when they start using a new version of iOS like iOS 13 is that the new features Apple adds to its mobile software don’t just shape the future of devices like the iPhone and iPad, they also help shape the future of Android devices. When building new versions of Android each year, Google often looks to Apple’s iPhone and iPad software and pulls in features for its own mobile platform. This isn’t a bad thing — Apple takes features from Android all the time, too. When cool and useful new features arrive on one platform, why wouldn’t the other one want them as well?

After last year’s iOS 12 release was focused mainly on fixing the many, many problems in iOS 11, this year’s iOS 13 release is all about adding new features. And now, hardcore Android fans have gotten together and shared all the cool new iOS 13 features they wish Google would copy and add to Android.

The newest Pixel 4 announcement proves Google was wrong about Pixel cameras all along

%name The newest Pixel 4 announcement proves Google was wrong about Pixel cameras all along by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

The increasing number of Pixel 4 leaks convinced Google to tease the phone’s design several months before its launch. As a result, we’ve known for weeks now what the Pixel 4’s rear design will be. We’ve also known that the handset will feature a dual-lens camera on the back, a first for the Pixel series. Then, on Monday, Google surprised Android fans loyal to the Pixel brand with an unexpected announcement, one that confirmed two signature features of the Pixel 4 series. Google practically told us the phone would feature 3D facial recognition just like the iPhone X phones, stressing on the fact that its tech is different. The company also touched on the rumored Project Soli integration, confirming that the Pixel 4 will be the world’s first phone to integrate a radar sensor. But in the process, Google also confirmed the phone would have a single-lens selfie camera, instead of two, as it was the case for the Pixel 3.

In other words, Google just confirmed that its camera approach for the Pixel 3 camera systems was wrong.

When NASA’s Mars 2020 mission finally gets underway about a year from now it’ll have been a long time coming. The mission has been in the works for years, and the ultra-high-tech rover will have plenty of work to do once it lands on Mars in early 2021, but it turns out the fancy robot doesn’t even have to leave Earth to begin pulling its weight.

As NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory explains in a new blog post, the rover is being put through its paces by working out its instrument-packed arm which it will use often once it begins exploring the Red Planet. The arm, weighing some 88 pounds, is built using several special joints and a whole bunch of very serious sensors.

Global temperatures have been rising to new all-time highs this year, a fact that no one who’s suffered through the heatwave that’s blanketed the US in recent weeks probably needs to be reminded of. Which makes a new product Sony is working on particularly enticing: The consumer electronics giant, no joke, launched a successful crowdfunding campaign to raise funds for what would be an actual wearable air conditioner that slips on the back of a shirt and promises to keep you cool.
