Only a few weeks ago, French inventor and former military reservist Franky Zapata was drawing comparisons to the Green Goblin for the way he flew a hoverboard through Paris during last month’s Bastille Day festivities. Zapata, who invented a jet-powered hoverboard called the Flyboard Air that’s powered by five small engines and steered with a handheld remote control, had bigger ambitions than that for his contraption, though.

His dream: To be the first man to cross the English Channel on a hoverboard. He took off this morning from near the town of Calais, while onlookers watched, held their breath and waited to see if he’d make it across to St. Margaret’s Bay on the English coast (Narrator: He didn’t).

Last week was crazy in terms of new trailers, both for new movies but also upcoming TV series. That’s all thanks to San Diego Comic-Con 2019, which brought us a slew of exciting announcements about what’s coming next to theaters and TV. Marvel’s event was one of the highlights of the show, but it’s hardly the only thing that happened at Comic-Con — check out our movies roundup from last week, as well as the TV series trailers for a quick recap. On top of that, we’ve got a bunch of fresh trailers for you, including the first trailer for a movie that fans have been dying to see, the Zombieland sequel. Speaking of zombies, The Walking Dead Movie is happening too, like it or not, and we have a teaser for that as well.

Opening this week, meanwhile, we have Quentin Tarantino’s new movie Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and it’ll be interesting to see if it can win the box office. My money is still on The Lion King, which is now on its second week.

For Team USA Paralympic powerlifter Garrison Redd, some of the toughest challenges he faces are actually away from the crowds, when he’s at home. He’s lived in a wheelchair for two decades now, and as he explains in a blog post today he penned for Google, “When you’re paralyzed, your home goes from being a place of comfort and security to a reminder of what you’ve lost. Light switches and thermostats are usually too high up on the wall and, if my phone falls on the floor, I may not be able to call a friend or family member if I need help.”

SpaceX’s StarHopper nails its latest ‘hop’

%name SpaceX’s StarHopper nails its latest ‘hop’ by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

SpaceX is spinning a lot of plates these days — from various contracts with NASA to agreements with many smaller clients to launch various satellites and spacecraft into Earth orbit — but its Starship project is definitely one of its biggest bets on the future.

Starship is SpaceX’s long-term project to produce a spacecraft that can make it to the Moon, and then eventually Mars and beyond. The company envisions future versions of Starship traveling out of our solar system entirely, but first, it has to get off the ground. In a test on Thursday night, the Starship prototype Starhopper did indeed leave solid ground, but that’s about all it did.

Trump denies tariff exemption for the Mac Pro, tells Apple to ‘make them in the USA’

%name Trump denies tariff exemption for the Mac Pro, tells Apple to ‘make them in the USA’ by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Donald Trump took to Twitter earlier today and said that Apple will not get a tariff waiver for its forthcoming Mac Pro. Apple, if you recall, petitioned the Office of the United States Trade Representative for an exemption earlier this month after the company opted to shift production from Texas to China. The tariff in question would subject the Mac Pro to a 25% duty tax on select components and parts.

“Apple will not be given Tariff waiver, or relief, for Mac Pro parts that are made in China,” Trump’s tweet reads. “Make them in the USA, no Tariffs!”

Cyberattacks force Louisiana to declare state of emergency

Ransomware and cyberattacks continue to multiply and hit local governments in a scary, escalating pattern such that, now for the second time since 2018, a governor has formally declared a state of emergency because of it.

Back in February 2018, it was Colorado’s governor after the Colorado Department of Transportation had to shut down operations because of a SamSam ransomware attack. This time, Louisiana’s Gov. Jon Bel Edwards has made the declaration after multiple school districts in the state have been hit by a wave of cyberattacks.
