Samsung a few months ago launched several Galaxy S10 options including a Galaxy S10+ model that ships with as much as 12GB of RAM onboard. That seems like overkill for a smartphone, but Samsung will continue to make phones with 12GB of memory, and supply 12GB modules to other handset vendors. The company on Thursday announced that it’s ready to begin mass production of the world’s first 12Gb LPDDR5 DRAM module which will power new 12GB RAM packages.

If you missed out on the Prime Day 2019 phone deals that included a Pixel 3 sale, then we have great news for you, as long as you’re still interested in Google’s latest flagship. The Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL were discounted by $260 earlier this week, which already sounds like a great deal, and a great reason not to buy the Pixel 3a over the Pixel 3. But Google is now ready to cut an extra $40 on both phones, which will let you save a total of $300 on either the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL.

NASA’s TESS exoplanet hunter is apparently also good at spotting supernovas

NASA’s TESS (which stands for Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite) is built to spot undetected planets orbiting distant stars. I mean, it’s right there in the name, so you can imagine it’s a rather specialized piece of equipment. That being said, the spacecraft is apparently also adept at spotting stars in the midst of blowing their tops.

In a new paper published in Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, researchers explain how TESS helped them investigate a longstanding mystery regarding a very specific type of supernova.

Apple explores the possibility of manufacturing AirPods in Vietnam

%name Apple explores the possibility of manufacturing AirPods in Vietnam by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple has long made a habit out of diversifying its supply chain whenever possible, which is why it shouldn’t come as much of a surprise that the company is poised to begin a trial production of next-gen AirPods in Vietnam.

According to a report from the Nikkei Asian Review, Apple has tasked its manufacturing partner Goertek with handling the initial trial run. The move marks a bit of a departure from the current setup wherein AirPods production is handled in China. At this point, it remains unclear if the upcoming production run in Vietnam will focus on the current AirPods 2 or on AirPods 3 which may launch before 2020.

The European Space Agency just updated its massive galaxy map

%name The European Space Agency just updated its massive galaxy map by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Back in early 2018, the European Space Agency released the second phase of Milky Way mapping data collected by the agency’s Gaia satellite. With a variety of tools that allow scientists and even casual space fans to browse an immense amount of data, it was a very big deal in for both professional and amateur astronomers.

However, it’s really just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, and the Gaia project team will continue to update the map data in the years to come. In the meantime, researchers combining the data from Gaia with sky survey data using other instruments have been able to peer through some of the dust and debris obscuring star positions to increase the accuracy of the Gaia data.

Box office prognosticators can already feel the love for the Jon Favreau-directed remake of The Lion King that’s set to hit theaters this weekend.

Estimates for how well this photorealistic, CGI-heavy reimagining of the Disney animated classic could do when it first arrives on the big screen are ranging from an impressive $150 million on the low end up to as high as $180 million. That’s according to Variety, which also notes that hopes are high the film will revive a box office that’s been somewhat moribund of late — despite the fact that the movie is already dividing critics and early reviewers in the lead-up to the release.

We’re now just days away from the 50th anniversary of the Apollo 11 Moon landing, as well as the 50th anniversary of Neil Armstrong becoming the first human to walk on the lunar surface. With remarkable timing, a number of auctions have popped up over the past month featuring some seriously sought-after NASA relics from sellers hoping to cash in on the hype.

A recent listing by Heritage Auctions included an undeniably cool collector’s item in the form of Neil Armstrong’s personal Apollo 11 gold medal that traveled with the crew to the Moon and then back to Earth. You’d expect such an item to sell for a high price, but when the auction ended, the total was almost unfathomable: $2,055,000.

Netflix plans to launch a cheaper, mobile-only plan in a major market

%name Netflix plans to launch a cheaper, mobile only plan in a major market by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Though there were a few bright spots in Netflix’s earnings report today, investors didn’t react too kindly to the company’s big miss on adding new subscribers. With Netflix anticipating 5 million new subscribers for the quarter, the streaming giant only managed to add about 2.7 million new subscribers. As a point of contrast, Netflix during the same quarter a year ago managed to add nearly 5.5 million new subscribers.

Netflix, though, does have a few plans designed to boost overall subscriber numbers. Aside from its tried-and-true strategy of rolling out an endless amount of fresh content, the company’s letter to investor disclosed a plan to roll out a more affordable and mobile-only streaming plan for users in India. So whereas the base plan for Netflix plans allows users to consume content via HDTVs, computers, and mobile devices, the new discounted plan will only work on smartphones.
