April was a very solid month for Netflix in terms of new original movies and shows that were released on everyone’s favorite streaming platform. Some of the most eagerly awaited releases include season 2 of Ricky Gervais’s drama After Life, the action-packed thriller Extraction starring Chris Hemsworth, season 4 of The Last Kingdom, and the premiere season of Never Have I Ever, a new coming of age teen comedy created by Mindy Kaling. If you want to see everything else that hit Netflix over the course of the month in April to ensure you didn’t miss anything, you can find the full schedule of Netflix’s original April 2020 releases right here.

With April now behind us, it’s time to look ahead to May 2020 — and you’ll find a packed calendar this month with tons of hotly anticipated releases. A whopping nine different Netflix original movies and shows will be released today alone, but the real fun starts on May 5th with the release of a brand new Jerry Seinfeld stand-up comedy special called Jerry Seinfeld: 23 Hours To Kill. Season 4 of Workin’ Moms follows a day later and then Dead to Me season 2 will be released on May 8th. If you haven’t already seen the first season of this dark comedy starring Linda Cardellini and Christina Applegate, you should definitely check it out.

There are so many more big releases taking place over the course of the month in May, including the interactive special Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy Vs. the Reverend, Magic For Humans season 3, and a new Patton Oswalt stand-up comedy special. Of course, there’s one show that everyone is talking about more than anything else set to debut this month. That’s right, Space Force season 1 will finally be released on May 29th. The new comedy series inspired by Trump’s ridiculous space warfare branch of the military that is somehow a real thing stars Steve Carell and was created by Greg Daniels, the man behind legendary comedies including The Office and Parks and Recreation.

The full list of May releases including third-party content can be found right here. But if you want all the third-party content stripped out so you can focus solely on Netflix’s new original content, you’ll find it all laid out below along with links so you can watch all the trailers.

The face masks everyone swarms Amazon for are somehow still in stock

%name The face masks everyone swarms Amazon for are somehow still in stock by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Amazon’s best-selling face masks arrived back in stock last week and tens of thousands of our readers swarmed the retailer’s site to get them.
  • We still don’t know how much inventory Amazon has right now, but the masks somehow didn’t sell out following the massive influx of orders.
  • The two types of best-selling masks, which are made by LeadPro and Jointown, feature the common 3-ply design that many people are seeking out and they’re believed to be quite effective when used in combination with strict social distancing and good hygiene.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Despite all the craziness you’re seeing right now, there is something important that you absolutely must keep in mind: unless you’re a doctor, a nurse, or a first responder on the front lines of the war against the novel coronavirus pandemic, you don’t need an N95 respirator face mask. Even if you somehow come across some N95 masks that are available to purchase, you absolutely shouldn’t buy them under any circumstances, and there are two main reasons. First and foremost, there’s still a horrible shortage of N95 face masks and people selling them on the black market are further reducing the number of masks that are available to the healthcare industry. Second, any N95 masks you come across right now will undoubtedly be severely overpriced, and they’re a waste of money if you don’t have a real need.

Should you ensure that you wear a face mask each and every time you leave your house right now? Yes, you absolutely should. Even the CDC says so. People with nonessential jobs are being advised to continue to shelter in place right now. Even if businesses start to open up in early May like the White House wants despite the advice of pretty much every expert out there, you should still continue to quarantine yourself and only go out when you absolutely must. When you do have to go out to pick up groceries or do something else that is absolutely necessary, the CDC advises us all to use some type of protective face covering in order to limit the transmission of the novel coronavirus. That DOES NOT mean you should wear an N95 mask or even the KN95 masks that are now flooding the market from China. As long as you practice social distancing and good hygiene, a standard face mask will do just fine.

There are a bunch of different options out there that won’t block healthcare professionals from getting the medical-grade face masks they all need so desperately. We recently told you how to quickly and easily make your own DIY face masks using supplies that you likely already have lying around your home, and they’re far more effective than other cloth DIY face mask instructions you’ll find online. If you want to step things up a bit, someone reverse-engineered an N95 face mask and posted instructions to make your own, complete with a virus neutralizer.

If you’re not the DIY type though, don’t worry because we have some excellent news for you.

Face Mask, Pack of 50: $39.99 ($0.80 / Mask)

Last week, we told you that Amazon’s best-selling face masks by LeadPro and similar face masks from Jointown were back in stock and available to ship out right away. The LeadPro masks cost 2¢ more apiece, but they also tend to be delivered a day or two faster than the comparable masks from Jointown.

These are 3-layer masks that do a great job of blocking things from your airways and preventing the virus from spreading if you already have it — as long as you take the necessary precautions and practice strict social distancing. These are not N95 masks or medical-grade surgical masks, and that’s important to note. That said, the CDC recommends that we wear cloth face coverings like these masks anytime we leave the house. They’re also much better than most of the cloth DIY face masks that people are sharing plans for online right now.

Face Mask, Pack of 50: $38.99 ($0.78 / Mask)

When we told you about these face masks arriving back in stock on Amazon, tens of thousands of our readers rushed over to the site to buy them. Incredibly, however, these best-selling masks are still in stock and still available to ship right away. There are other face masks available right now on Amazon as well, so if shipping times start to slip back you can always use that page to find comparable masks. Another popular option among our readers lately is the even thicker Anntuk 4-ply face mask. It’s a bit pricier than the other ones we’ve mentioned, but plenty of people out there are willing to pay for the extra sense of security. If you ask us, the 3-ply masks are more than good enough.

Thick 4-Ply Face Shield with Elastic Ear Loop Cover Full Face Anti-Dust(1PCS): $14.99

The aforementioned face masks from Amazon and the two DIY masks we linked earlier in this article are all great options, and they’ll definitely do the job if you also remain vigilant. Stay at home unless you absolutely must go out. Practice social distancing and stay as far away from other people when you do have to leave the house. Wash your hands or use hand sanitizer as frequently as possible, especially after touching surfaces outside of your home.

Will the coronavirus pandemic finally ‘kill’ the iPhone’s notch?

%name Will the coronavirus pandemic finally ‘kill’ the iPhone’s notch? by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Face ID doesn’t work on iPhone if you’re using a mask, and the use of face masks is advised during the novel coronavirus pandemic.
  • Apple already made changes to iOS 13 to allow iPhone users to enter passwords manually faster when using face masks.
  • Could Apple consider adding Touch ID to future iPhones in case the COVID-19 disease is here to stay for longer than expected?
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The novel coronavirus altered normal life in a way we wouldn’t have imagined a few months ago. The virus is very contagious and has the potential to kill anyone. Yes, many people are asymptomatic or develop mild versions of COVID-19, and it’s usually the elderly or people with other existing medical problems that get a severe, potentially deadly case. But there are exceptions, and you have no way of knowing how your COVID-19 experience will be like. That’s why you have to stay indoors for as long as possible, wash your hands often, and clean regularly commonly used surfaces. When you go outside, you have to wear some sort of mask. Anything that covers your mouth and nose can be used at least until you find medical masks in stores. And you should do it every time you go shopping for essentials or to work. A mask is a barrier that will not completely reduce the risk of inhaling droplets containing the virus. There’s nothing that’s 100% effective against it. But it can reduce the risk of contracting an infection in public places.

However, the use of a mask practically ruins one of the best features the iPhone ever got, the Face ID 3D face recognition system. And once you get hooked to it, it’ll be very annoying to keep entering your password every single time you need to unlock the phone. With that in mind, I can’t help but wonder whether the current pandemic will affect Apple’s plans for Face ID.

Astronomers detected a colossal new exoplanet that dwarfs Jupiter

%name Astronomers detected a colossal new exoplanet that dwarfs Jupiter by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Astronomers discovered a massive distant planet orbiting star Kepler-88.
  • The planet is roughly three times the size of our own Jupiter, and around 300 times the mass of Earth.
  • At a distance of over 1,250 light-years from Earth, we’ll likely never visit it, but scientists can still study it from afar.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The mighty Jupiter rules our solar system with an iron fist. Well, okay, it doesn’t really do anything like that, but it is considered the “king” of the planets in our system simply because it is indeed the largest. It was once hard to imagine a planet larger than Jupiter — which has storms that you could fit the entire Earth into — but exoplanet research has revealed that even Jupiter is a small fry compared to what’s out there.

Now, a new study published in The Astronomical Journal reveals the existence of a planet orbiting the distant star Kepler-88 that would put Jupiter to shame. With a mass equivalent to around 300 Earths and three times the mass of Jupiter, it’s a real giant and the undisputed king of its own little corner of space.

Coronavirus might make it impossible to bring back sports any time soon

%name Coronavirus might make it impossible to bring back sports any time soon by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A new study shows that athletes aren’t guaranteed to get a mild COVID-19 case just because they’re healthy and have good lungs.
  • Their improved breathing abilities might put them at risk of developing a more severe case after being infected with the novel coronavirus.
  • Some sporting events might not resume this year even with no audience, with some soccer competitions in Europe having already been shut down for good.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The novel coronavirus made us adjust to a new life, one that’s governed by two words: Social distancing. Because the virus is highly contagious, gatherings of any kind are prohibited in most places, as are non-essential jobs. That’s why sporting events were canceled or postponed, including major competitions such as this year’s Summer Olympic Games and Euro 2020. Once restrictions are eased, we might return to some version of the life we knew, but social distancing measures will remain in place for months to come, at the very least.

When sports do come back, they might not allow spectators. It turns out that athletes who have been working on increasing their capacity for effort for years might be at greater risk of developing COVID-19 complications because of the way they breathe, which can apparently be a risk factor for the disease, according to a new study.

Sony is the undisputed king of the current console generation.

The PlayStation 4 topped 100 million sales back in January, while Microsoft has yet to report even half of that for the Xbox One. Microsoft’s missteps in the months leading up to the launch of the Xbox One cost it dearly, and Sony was the beneficiary, sticking the dagger in before the race had even begun by undercutting the price of the Xbox One. By the time Phil Spencer took over in 2014, it was too late to change the trajectory of this generation. Instead, the Xbox team began planning for the next generation, and we’re finally starting to see those plans pay off.

‘Tiger King’ movie focused on Joe Exotic reportedly coming to Netflix

%name ‘Tiger King’ movie focused on Joe Exotic reportedly coming to Netflix by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The Netflix docu-series Tiger King has been one of the most popular streaming releases so far this year, with Netflix itself estimating that some 64 million households watched the series during the first four weeks after its release.
  • Now, a new report teases that Netflix may have a movie adaptation of the series in the works, with a focus on the colorful character at its center — Joe Exotic.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Few things in Netflix’s vast catalog of TV shows and movies have proven as simultaneously bingeable, buzzy, and unequivocally insane as the Tiger King docu-series, about a polygamist zoo owner from Oklahoma who comes off like a character somebody dreamed up in a movie. The series is still among the Top 10 Netflix TV series in the US, according to the daily rankings put out by the streamer, which means people still haven’t been able to get enough of the truth-is-stranger-than-fiction story herein — and, along those lines, Netflix might be about to give fans even more Tiger King-related content to enjoy.

After releasing an extra episode earlier this month, a kind of aftershow special hosted by Joel McHale, Netflix went on to tout some impressive stats related to the series in its first-quarter letter to shareholders, published on April 21. In it, Netflix projected that some 64 million households would have seen Tiger King in the first four weeks following its release in mid-March. Now, meanwhile, comes word that a movie adaptation of the series focused on the Tiger King himself — “Joe Exotic,” aka Joseph Maldonado-Passage — is reportedly in production at the streamer.

Can we just stop for a moment and appreciate how explosive, satisfying, well-written, superbly-acted, and just jaw-droppingly excellent the third season of Netflix’s original series Ozark is?

The season debuted on the streamer at the end of March, making it a perfect and desperately-needed distraction from the insanity of the coronavirus pandemic. In the new season, we pick up six months after things left off in Season 2. The casino is now up and running, but Marty and Wendy Byrde find themselves frequently at cross-purposes over the future of their family and business interests. Marty, the numbers guy, is cautious and risk-averse, while Wendy — thanks to an ominously supportive drug cartel leader — wants to expand, to do more. All the tension boils over in the lead-up to the final episode, with the very last shot in the closing moments of the season presenting a truly unforgettable image.

Tesla’s next big vehicle release has been delayed again

  • The Tesla Semi won’t enter mass production until 2021.
  • Initially unveiled in late 2017, Tesla’s semi-truck was supposed to enter production in 2019.
  • The Tesla Semi delay aside, Tesla this week posted a surprisingly strong earnings report.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Tesla’s earnings report yesterday was mostly good news. Defying expectations yet again, the electric automaker posted better than anticipated sales and managed to eke out a $16 million quarterly profit in the process. And while that figure isn’t exactly earth-shattering, it’s certainly encouraging given Tesla’s long history of losing money quarter after quarter.

All told, Tesla during the March quarter saw revenue hit $5.9 billion as the company delivered 88,400 vehicles. Breaking things down even further, the Model 3 and Model Y accounted for 76,200 of those deliveries while cumulative deliveries for the Model S and X checked in at 12,200 units.
