When Samsung first announced the Galaxy Fold earlier this year, you might have been impressed. In fact, the prospect of a smartphone with a foldable OLED display might have been so exciting to you that you managed to force yourself to overlook how terrible the Galaxy Fold’s design truly is. Then, reality smacked you in the fact when we were reminded yet again what happens when Samsung cares more about being first than about releasing the best product it can possibly make. Instead of being smart and taking its time, Samsung tried to rush the Galaxy Fold out the door to beat Huawei to market, and the company ended up with a piece of junk. In fact, it was such a piece of junk that Samsung had to cancel the phone’s release because review units started breaking within hours of reaching bloggers’ hands. It was a massive embarrassment for Samsung, and it was the result of putting hubris ahead of the company’s customers.

I knew the Galaxy Fold would be a mess long before it was ever announced. In fact, I began warning people of how bad it would be more than a year ahead of the phone’s unveiling when rumors of Samsung’s first foldable smartphone began picking up steam. I could have never predicted what a debacle the phone’s launch would end up being, of course, but Samsung has never excelled at innovating and releasing first-generation products. What Samsung does excel at, however, is iterating and refining existing devices to make them better. If you want a Samsung flagship phone that’s going to be a sleek, stunning powerhouse as opposed to a piece of junk with an awful design, the upcoming Galaxy Note 10 and Galaxy Note 10 Pro are just what the doctor ordered. And once you see these new renders, you’ll forget all about how bad the Galaxy Fold is.

The worst things that Samsung could have imagined for its first foldable phone already happened. First, Huawei’s gorgeous Mate X (image above), that was unveiled just a few days after the Galaxy Fold became official in mid-February, became the talk of the town in Barcelona, Spain, at MWC 2019. To date, the Mate X has the best foldable design out there, especially compared to the ugly Galaxy Fold. Then Samsung had to endure an even bigger humiliation in early April when advance Galaxy Fold units broke left and right forcing the company to recall the phone and postpone the launch so it can fix the screen durability issues. But it turns out that Samsung is so afraid of the Mate X that it wants to release a version of its own. And it wants to do it before the Mate X hits stores in September.

Apple is working on ARM MacBooks, several rumors said in the past few years, with a first such product to hit stores in 2020. Apple never comments on rumors and speculation, and all of its laptops and desktops are based on Intel processors right now. But Apple can’t hide everything and we have more evidence that Apple is considering a transition to ARM for macOS. The company just hired a key ARM engineer, who also worked at Intel and AMD before joining the iPhone maker.

In a somewhat bizarre, and yet entertaining, new commercial, Arnold Schwarzenegger goes “undercover” and tries to convince prospective EV buyers to get a gas-powered car instead. The ad itself was put together by Veloz, a California non-profit keen on accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles across the country.

The ad is essentially a tongue-in-cheek effort to extol the virtues of electric cars by highlighting the drawbacks of traditional gas-powered vehicles.

Astronauts who head to the International Space Station get to see things that the rest of us can only imagine. As the orbiting laboratory rapidly orbits Earth, it affords its inhabitants the chance to see all manner of jaw-dropping sights, and on the morning of June 22nd, one of those sights happened to be a volcano blowing its top in the Pacific Ocean.

In a new post on its Earth Observatory web portal, NASA shows off a truly gorgeous snapshot of the Raikoke Volcano violently spewing ash high into the sky. The volcano, which sits as its own uninhabited island, isn’t known for frequent eruptions, making this a particularly rare event.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you have no doubt heard about the seemingly endless stream of Democrats who have thrown their hat into the ring for the 2020 United States presidential election. Some of the names are more recognizable than others, but you’ll have a chance to get to know 20 of them throughout this week, as NBC will host the first round of Democratic debates on Wednesday and Thursday night.

Due to the sheer number of candidates that qualified for the debates, NBC opted to break the candidates up into two groups of ten, with the first group taking the stage at 9:00 PM ET on Wednesday, and the second group set to follow on Thursday at the same time. The debates will be broadcast on NBC and MSNBC.

SpaceX launched its Falcon Heavy rocket in the early hours of Tuesday morning, delivering 24 satellites into orbit and making many of its clients very happy in the process. The company nailed the landing of both side boosters, but the center core booster narrowly missed its landing and splashed down in the ocean instead.

In the hours following the launch, SpaceX boss Elon Musk weighed in on the unfortunate fate of the core booster, offering a bit of an explanation as to why it missed its mark.
