Chinese smartphone maker Vivo teased a few days ago a phone that supports 120W fast charging speeds, which is something unheard of in the mobile space. The technology would let you recharge a 4,000 mAh battery, which is almost as big as the one powering the Galaxy S10+ in just 13 minutes. And the company just unveiled the new charging tech, which it calls Vivo Super FlashCharge.

eBay promises a ‘Crash Sale’ on Amazon Prime Day if Amazon’s website crashes

%name eBay promises a ‘Crash Sale’ on Amazon Prime Day if Amazon’s website crashes by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

By now, word is out that this year’s version of Black Friday in July for Amazon — its annual Prime Day deals event — will be stretched to two days this time around, in addition to offering Amazon Prime subscribers more than a million deals with a kickoff set to begin at midnight PT on Monday, July 15.

A few of Amazon’s retail rivals, meanwhile, want to cede as little ground as possible to the e-commerce giant and have gone ahead and announced their own discounts and promotions to counter Prime Day. eBay and Target are both planning to offer some serious deals to try and chip away at Amazon a bit, with eBay even getting a little cheeky with the announcement of its so-called “Crash Sale” that’s also set for Prime Day, on July 15.

SpaceX finally caught one of its rocket’s nose cones

%name SpaceX finally caught one of its rocket’s nose cones by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

SpaceX has never been shy about its failures. It’s famously poked fun at itself over its near-misses and setbacks over the years, and it’s typically very transparent whenever it comes up short. In recent months, its inability to successfully catch and recover the nose cone fairings of its rockets has been a real thorn in its side, but last night’s Falcon Heavy launch changed that.

In a first-ever successful catch attempt, SpaceX’s net-covered barge Ms. Tree (formerly Mr. Steven) managed to snag one of the two Falcon Heavy fairings as they tumbled from space. Now SpaceX needs to see if all this work will pay off in substantial cost savings for future missions.

‘The Lion King’ is blowing away all other Disney remakes in ticket presales

Disney’s live-action remake of The Lion King doesn’t open until July 19, but this new version of the beloved animated classic is already breaking records.

Fandango announced Tuesday that the film is the new record-holder for the best first-day presales for a traditional Disney release — “traditional,” as in excluding movies in the Star Wars and Marvel franchises. Not only that, The Lion King presales are blowing away advanced ticket sales for all other Disney remakes up to this point, and the movie is also on pace to be the year’s second-best advance ticket-seller on Fandango — after Avengers: Endgame, of course.

Apple Watch wearer in the UK details how the ECG app helped save his life

%name Apple Watch wearer in the UK details how the ECG app helped save his life by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Since its release late last year, the ECG app on the Apple Watch Series 4 has helped save many lives. While certainly not an out-and-out replacement for a trip to the hospital and professional diagnosis, the ECG app is designed to provide users with a convenient way to take an electrocardiogram and, in turn, stay on top of any potentially dangerous heart conditions stemming from an irregular heartbeat.

The ECG app first launched in the United States last December before making its way to the UK earlier this year. That said, an Apple Watch wearer in the UK recently took to Reddit and detailed how the ECG app potentially saved his life by providing him with an atrial fibrillation warning. Ultimately, the Apple Watch owner went to the hospital upon which a more serious condition was observed by attending physicians.

Trio of space travelers safely returns to Earth

Being chosen to spend time aboard the International Space Station is a privilege that only the tiniest fraction of people will ever experience. But all good things must come to an end, and this week marked the end of Expedition 59 aboard the ISS, and half of the space station’s six-person crew just arrived back on Earth.

The trio — Russian cosmonaut Oleg Kononenko, astronaut David Saint-Jacques of Canada, and NASA’s Anne McClain — spent over 200 days in space, but it took just a few hours for them to make the trip back to solid ground.

Microsoft might beat Apple to market with an ARM-powered laptop

%name Microsoft might beat Apple to market with an ARM powered laptop by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

Apple is expected to replace Intel chips that typically power MacBooks with ARM-based creations of its own, and we keep seeing rumors pointing in that direction. But while Apple hasn’t confirmed that it’s working on A-series processors that could deliver desktop-grade performance, its partner (and rival) Qualcomm has already launched a bunch of ARM processors that can run Windows.

The latest one is the Snapdragon 8cx that has been engineered specifically for notebook use. And that’s the platform Microsoft might use on an upcoming Surface laptop.

Here’s why your Windows 10 computer has been taking forever to shut down lately

%name Here’s why your Windows 10 computer has been taking forever to shut down lately by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley

If you’ve been noticing that your PC has been acting a little wonky of late, it could be the result of a newly unearthed bug that impacts how long it takes machines running a certain version of Windows 10 to shut down or enter sleep mode. Microsoft confirmed the bug on the company’s Tech Community page and notes that the delay can sometimes be as long as 60 seconds.

Now as far as bugs go, this one is relatively benign. Still, if you’re ready to leave your house and are patiently waiting for your computer to shut down or go to sleep, watching your computer just sit there for upwards of a minute can be unnerving.
