CDC added 6 new coronavirus symptoms to its guidelines

  • The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) added six more coronavirus symptoms to the official list of COVID-19 signs.
  • The updated list includes symptoms like the sudden loss of taste and smell, an odd COVID-19 sign that scientists already explained.
  • Other symptoms may include chills, shaking, and pain.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

The CDC added six additional coronavirus symptoms to the list of signs that may indicate a COVID-19 suspicion. The most common ones are fever, cough, and shortness of breath, but they’re hardly the only symptoms that have been associated with the novel virus in the past few months. Doctors treating an increasing number of COVID-19 patients observed various symptoms that weren’t necessarily indicative of respiratory illness. Some patients came to the hospital with heart or neurological problems, only to be found COVID-19 positives. Other people observed skin lesions that ended up being associated with the virus. One of the most prevalent unusual signs concerned the lack of smell and taste, which researchers proved to be linked with the infection.

Waiting for your stimulus check? Here’s when it might finally arrive

%name Waiting for your stimulus check? Here’s when it might finally arrive by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The IRS and Treasury Department announced last Friday that 88.1 million economic impact payments have been issued to Americans as part of the CARES Act.
  • More than 150 million payments will be sent out in total, which means tens of millions of Americans are still waiting for their money with May bills nearly due.
  • A new wave of coronavirus stimulus payments may be going out as early as this week.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Last week, the IRS and the US Department of the Treasury announced that 88.1 million payments worth nearly $158 billion had been issued to Americans as part of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. You can even see a breakdown of how many payments have been issued to each individual state on the IRS website, but as the news release notes, over 150 million payments will be sent out in total, which means that days before bills are due, millions of Americans are still waiting to receive their Economic Impact Payments.

As we have reported, the IRS set up two online tools to assist with these payments — one is for those who filed their taxes this year or last and the other is for non-filers. As long as the IRS has your direct deposit information on file, you should be able to use the Get My Payment tool to see exactly when the money will be deposited in your account. The first wave went out the week of April 13th, and more payments should be going out this week.

Many coronavirus patients don’t even have the most common symptom

%name Many coronavirus patients don’t even have the most common symptom by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • A study of 5,700 coronavirus patients who were treated in Northwell Health hospitals in the New York area reveals that only some 30% of patients had a fever when they were admitted.
  • Fever is widely believed to be the most common symptom in COVID-19 cases, but the study indicates that not all patients have experience high temperatures.
  • The study offered additional statistics about the use of mechanical ventilation, comorbidities, and the outcome of patients with hypertension.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

If you experience a fever, cough, shortness of breath, and fatigue, you might have COVID-19. But the novel coronavirus isn’t the only explanation for your symptoms. You could also have the flu, a common cold, or some other medical condition. But COVID-19 will be the first thing that pops into your mind, and that’s the right way to go about it. Suspecting a COVID-19 infection can prevent you from spreading whatever disease you have by isolating yourself from others. Keeping track of the evolution of your undiagnosed illness is key while you’re showing symptoms, and your progress might help your doctor determine whether or not to advise hospital care.

A new study says that not all of the common COVID-19 symptoms might actually be as prevalent as we thought. Only some 30% of more than 5,700 patients in the New York area experienced fever before being admitted to the hospital, says a brand new study. The conclusion might be surprising, but it does reinforce another few ideas. First of all, there are plenty of asymptomatic COVID-19 carriers out in the wild, as well as plenty of people who experience a mild version of the disease and never have to go to a hospital. Secondly, social distancing measures have to stay in place as testing increases to reduce transmission risk.

Amazon’s big Echo and Echo Show sale just got even better

%name Amazon’s big Echo and Echo Show sale just got even better by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Amazon has been running a big sale on many of its most popular Echo products for the past few weeks, but on Monday the deals in this great sale got even better.
  • In addition to deep discounts on Echo Dots and an all-time low price on the upgraded Echo smart speaker, Amazon is also now offering discounts on more products like the Echo Flex for just $19.99.
  • There’s no telling how long these new Echo deals will last, so you would be wise to take advantage of these deep discounts now before they disappear.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Things are finally starting to get back to normal over at Amazon. Well, sort of. The most popular product among our readers is now a box of 78¢ face masks that people are using to help protect themselves against coronavirus, and there’s nothing normal about that. They do a fine job when combined with social distancing and good hygiene though, so it makes sense that they’re so popular right now.

When we said normal, we meant that nonessential products are finally beginning to ship out more quickly once again. Amazon shifted most of its resources away from nonessential items for a period of time so that it could focus on delivering medical supplies to hospitals. That’s still a big focus for Amazon, of course, but the months-long delays we were seeing on other types of deliveries are now gone. Most new orders seem to be shipping out within a week, and that of course includes many of Amazon’s own devices. That’s especially good news today because Amazon just turned up the heat on its big Echo sale that has been running for a few weeks now.

Wondering what kind of deals you can get right now on Amazon’s various Alexa devices? Don’t worry we’ve got you covered. The fun starts with the new and improved 3rd-generation Echo speaker, which normally costs $100 but is on sale today at the all-time low price of $59.99. The $50 Echo Dot is down to $29.99 or just $24.99 each when you buy two with the coupon code DOT2PACK, and the Echo Dot with Clock is down to $39.99 from $60. You’ll also be happy to learn that the Echo Flex is down to its all-time low price of $19.99. It’s the smallest Echo speaker ever at the smallest price ever.

Echo (3rd Gen)- Smart speaker with Alexa- Charcoal: $59.99

Echo Dot (3rd Gen) – Smart speaker with Alexa – Charcoal: $24.99 – $29.99 (use code DOT2PACK)

Echo Dot (3rd Gen) – Smart speaker with clock and Alexa – Sandstone: $39.99

Echo Flex – Plug-in mini smart speaker with Alexa: $19.99

If you’re looking for an Alexa device with a display, you’re covered there as well. The $130 Echo Show 8 everyone loves so much is on sale for $99.99, while the more compact Echo Show 5 is down to $69.99 from $90. You can also pick up a Certified Refurbished Echo Show 5 for just $49.99, which is the lowest price we’ve seen.

Echo Show 8 – HD 8″ smart display with Alexa – Charcoal: $99.99

Echo Show 5 – stay connected and in touch with Alexa – Charcoal: $69.99

Certified Refurbished Echo Show 5: $49.99

White House health official says social distancing isn’t ending anytime soon

%name White House health official says social distancing isn’t ending anytime soon by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Dr. Deborah Birx says that social distancing will definitely have to continue into the summer months and that just because the curve is flattening doesn’t mean we can return to normalcy.
  • Birx told Meet The Press that remarks made by Mike Pence that suggested the outbreak would be “behind us” by Memorial Day shouldn’t be taken to mean we can all go back to our pre-pandemic lives.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Social distancing is working to help curb the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus. We know this because we can see the change in infection rates in areas where the virus was spreading like wildfire prior to stay-at-home orders and social distancing mandates were issued. But how long are we going to be living in this new normal?

Dr. Deborah Birx, one of the health officials on the White House coronavirus task force, says that keeping our distance from each other is something that will need to continue for some time. We’re certainly not out of the woods yet with this pandemic, and social distancing is our best weapon against its spread as we wait for a vaccine to become available.

This self-cleaning electric toothbrush is half the price of an Oral-B

%name This self cleaning electric toothbrush is half the price of an Oral B by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • Electric toothbrushes are far better at cleaning your teeth and gums than traditional toothbrushes, but not all electric toothbrush models are created equal.
  • Models from popular brands like Oral-B are great, but most people don’t realize they need to sanitize the brush heads themselves to kill germs including bacteria and viruses.
  • A new model called the TAO Clean Sonic Toothbrush uses the same technology as smartphone sanitizers to kill 99.9% of germs every single day when you’re done using it.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

At this point, most people have come to realize that a traditional toothbrush will never clean your teeth as well as a traditional toothbrush. Whether or not they care enough to actually invest in an electric toothbrush is an entirely different story. They’re well worth the initial investment considering how much more healthy your teeth and gums will be after you start using one, but not everyone wants to shell out $100 or $150 for a toothbrush.

Even if you do use an electric toothbrush, you’re probably still not getting your mouth as clean as you should be. That’s because electric toothbrush heads collect germs including bacteria and viruses just like any other brush. Even if you change your brush head as often as you’re supposed to — which almost no one actually does — you still need to sanitize your brush manually. At least, that used to be the case before the new TAO Clean Sonic Toothbrush came along.

As an electric toothbrush, the TAO Clean Sonic Toothbrush is already great. It has a comfortable design and a powerful motor that delivers 40,000 brush strokes per minute. The best part, however, is the dock that comes with the brush. It’s not just a charging stand like the ones that come with other electric toothbrush models, it’s a cleaning station that uses UV-C light to obliterate mold, mildew, and germs including bacteria and viruses. It uses the same technology as the UV-C smartphone sanitizers that kill coronavirus on your iPhone or Android device.

We’ve been testing the TAO Clean Sonic Toothbrush ourselves and we love it. So long, Oral-B! Beyond how much better it is than Oral-B thanks to the UV-C cleaning docking station, it’s also about half the price of top-selling Oral-B electric toothbrush models.

Tao Clean TAO Clean Sonic Toothbrush and Cleaning Station – Deep Space Black – Electric Too…: $79.00

Here’s the important info from Amazon’s product page:

  • ORAL CLEANSING SYSTEM: Upgrade your daily oral routine with the TAO Clean Sonic Toothbrush System. The ergonomic handle fits perfectly in your hand while the 40,000 tiny brush strokes per minute sweep away plaque and gently polish away surface stains.
  • PATENTED DOCKING STATION: The TAO Clean Base Station uses powerful Ultraviolet-C rays to kill 99.9% of germs while your sonic toothbrush is not in use. It also protects, dries, charges it, and takes up minimal space on your bathroom counter.
  • DUAL SPEED SETTINGS: Pick the setting that’s perfect for your mouth. The TAO Clean toothbrush has dual settings (Super Clean & Sensitive Clean) and a 2-minute timer that pauses every 30 seconds to remind you to move to the next section of your mouth.
  • TWO-YEAR WARRANTY: TAO Clean products have a two-year warranty covering manufacturer-related defects. Box includes a brush handle, base station, 3 hygienically sealed toothbrush heads, power adaptor, and cable.
  • BRAND YOU CAN TRUST: Our philosophy is clean and simple – literally. At TAO Clean, we believe every object we create must deliver a wonderful user experience from start to finish. Each product is built to live up to high cleanliness standards.

WHO says coronavirus might be able to infect the same person twice

%name WHO says coronavirus might be able to infect the same person twice by Authcom, Nova Scotia\s Internet and Computing Solutions Provider in Kentville, Annapolis Valley
  • The World Health Organization says there’s no concrete evidence that being infected with COVID-19 makes you immune from it in the future.
  • Individuals with viral antibodies may be protected for certain lengths of time, but we still don’t know for certain if that’s the case.
  • Programs that would give people ‘immunity passes’ would fail if the virus can indeed reinfect people who have already been infected.
  • Visit BGR’s homepage for more stories.

Ever since the novel coronavirus outbreak began, health experts and scientists wanted to know whether or not being infected makes you immune to the virus, and if so, for how long. Building up antibodies to fight against the second wave of infection is often a sign that you’re safe from reinfection, but scientists aren’t sure if that’s the case with COVID-19.

Now, the World Health Organization is weighing in, stating that at the moment, there’s “no evidence” that people who have had COVID-19 and recovered from it are safe from the virus.
